Ok, I phrased it wrong:
"Don't abandon just because people tells you to do so. Saying: gw is dead, just quit, is not very constructive." was the sense of it.
If he feels he's done with the game in all and it only becomes something unpleasant...in those cases I really second the idea he should quit if he finds no more interest in the game.
But seeing the problem seems to be more with people than with the game itself...I suggested to find someone else etc. instead of just quitting right away.
The decision is only in his hands, I'm nobody to tell him to keep playing like others are nobody to tell him to quit.

I feel your pain. I see all these updates Anet does, like with WiK, but I can't pain myself to get through it. The game is alive and kicking, but it's just...not the same? I haven't logged on to actually play since the WiK stuff started, but that was just the first "mission".
Oh well, GW2 is going to be a sweet game. I'll just keep on playing my Madden '10 and Oblivion in my spare time that I have.

If you find GW getting stale but you still want to play it without having to grind, heres something you can do.
Create a new character in any campaign(I prefer prophecies) and ACTUALLY pay attention to the lore. Read and complete all the little sidequests, separate all current money you have from this character. Make it so u actually have to try to buy your armor, get to certain missions, and understand whats going on in the game.
Its even more fun when you get a group of 3-7 others who want to the same thing and have the same activity rate on GW.
Or you could just stare at your character as you run back and forth in Kamadan...

As others have mentioned, there is also the weekly Nick farm for presents/gifts. I've collected 1.5 stacks of presents/gifts already, and haven't bothered buying or selling them (I prolly opened my first 100 or so, then decided to just save them as *ecto cash*...)...
