My story
I have been playing Guild Wars for a few years, and took a large break recently. Now whenever I log onto Guild Wars it seems that it is dead. Not by the community, but just dead for things to do. Of course, Guild Wars 2 is going to be a great new game, but it just feels that I am limited in what I am able to do for fun in this game in a non-competitive way. My "golden days" were when I was in a large alliance with friendly people who never did GvG, rarely did RA sync back then, and mainly just did contests, giveaways, and fun runs mainly just to hang out. We did have some drama, which came to the guild disbanding eventually. Now when I look at my friends list, which had about 40 people on it, I only see about 1-2 people who I don't even know why I put on it.
I have been searching for an alliance kind of like that one, just laid back, but to no avail. I am not here to request one, but rather just to say that over time Guild Wars gets very stale for a non-competitive soul like me.
TL;DR: Guild Wars is kinda depressing and boring for me right now. Does anyone else feel this way? (By depressing I only mean it sort of saddens me to see my friends list so empty and dead, nothing serious, mind you.)

I know what you mean about the guilds/alliances. I don't join random guilds, only ones that I have friends in. Not many people get on my friends list anymore either, started to clean it up a little bit as well. I must say some of the titles are pretty interesting to work on and have kept me busy. Been working on Leg Vanq and I have 7 areas left in Tyria, and I must say I somewhat did enjoy it. Especially when you're vanquishing with someone else.

If you do a search (or maybe even look back a dozen pages or so), you'll find that you're not the first person to have this experience.

i used to feel the same way as you till i found the guild i am currently in. I would encourage you to check out the guild recruitment section (and not just the first page but also the second and third pages). There are still guilds out there that are laidback and just randomway places for the fun of it.

LOL it is dead now?
Now there are multiple daily WiK and Zaishen quests, about the only reason I log on daily. And, last weekend was an event weekend, and this weekend is an event weekend.
You just need to figure out what is new/going on.

if you took a long break, i can see how you would be disappointed. For many of us here myself included, we've seen it as a very slow, gradual process that isn't suprising at all.
the War in Kryta has been a nice success though, and I did more pugging last weekend doing Battle for Lion's Arch than I have in years

i would suggest getting into the war in kryta stuff. it really is going to tie in well to GW2(GET HYPE?). Think back to when you first started playing GW1 as well. It wasn't as if you pushed the "put me into a fun guild button" and POOF! there it was. I hear what you are saying, but a lot has changed since you were last around.

Every weekend is an event weekend....
whether it be a major event, or just double RA points
sorta like how AION does double xp pretty much every other weekend to keep players interested.
But I must admit, WiK is very good gameplay. And the last quest in the chain is the most fun thing i've done since my first urgoz run with my randomway alliance.
(and spoiler alert! theres still things to do. They added more dialog in the HoM if you finished Battle for LionsArch)

I also quit for a couple months and came back ofer the last 2 weeks while i was off work (broke my wrist)
I have now finished my gwamm and all the other crap that goes with it and i have to say. im glad im going back to work next week.
GW is one of those games where you become addicted and get bored of it and then hope and hope fore new things that never come. shure the WiK quests are ok but i did those in a couple hours i didnt find them that hard either. its not like when Slavers exile or Mallyx first came out.

Yep, Guild Wars is pretty stale now. I mean theres the daily Zaishen stuff and Wanted but after awhile it just seems like busy work.
After a couple months break i decided to finish going for God Walking Amongst Mere Mortals(I was at 28 titles when i stopped) and from there ive decided to pimp out my Hall Of Monuments in preparation for GW2. Just bought all tormented weapons, destroyer weapons, and every elite armor for my warrior.
GW lost a lot of its fun because its 5 years old and theres too many areas so places are either crowded(ToA) or empty(Nolani Academy)

With core gameplay that is nearly 3 years old (release date EotN) it's only natural a game feels stale. Small additions like Zquest, Nicholas and WiK won't change that.
At some point you will find farming stuff, speedclearing dungeons or grinding titles just isn't fun anymore. Maybe you can set yourself some new goals, but eventually, you've totally exhausted all possibilities of this game.
You just need to find the strength to acknowledge that and quit.

There is a lot to do in Guild Wars right now as it's leading up to GW2. I only play this game casually (I'm a raider in a different game, and its not WoW) so I'll link you the stuff I've been bothering to do:

Wait... speedclearing and grinding titles was fun???
Anyway, guild wars really isn't dead. Go find a good guild and have fun doing stuff like vanquishes, missions, and dungeons with your guildies.

No, Guild Wars the game isn't dead, but it can be dead/exhausted for a player. I just find it odd people can't seem to grasp the concept that sometimes a game stopped being fun. Instead they come to a forum with the questions OP asks.

Not that trying to attack you Paux, but really, maybe you are just done with this game? Why would you even continue a game that is boring? One should be playing games for fun, if it isn't fun any more...

And yes, for some people there will always be guildmates to play with, although they've done that particular content over and over (/waves at gali).

I guess the whole "GW is dead" needed a new thread!
I returned a couple of months ago after a long break and I've had plenty of things to keep me busy (came back just before WiK started).
GW is far from dead, ofc if you can't find anything that you enjoy you should just stop playing (or you'll end up like some of the negative nabs posting at this forum). But seeiing that you said you had been gone for a while I think there should be something to do for you.

WoW is even more dead than GW unless you're a hardcore raider - I actually came back to GW because I was sick of WoW, I don't like raiding for several reasons and unfortunately the main focus of WoW is now raiding (I even went so far as leveling another Shaman even though I already had one of each class at 80... so now I have 11.)
After finally completing Slavers exile (h/h) I have to say it gave me much more satisfaction that running the same heroic dungeons day in and day out in WoW.
