Game updates
I think I've seen a lot of threads on the Par and the Derv fixes that need to happen. its been what 4 months? 3 months? or is it 2? can we speculate that after the war their cooking up something big? maybe more content, explorable areas and what not?
or are they just taking their time because their live team is too busy testing the new features of gw2?

It's been 4 months. And, honestly, no one knows why outside of maybe the Test Krewe. Part of it had to do with the GvG changes. They took a while (for some reason).
I don't honestly see any large content in our near future. I think we'll probably get the skill update in a month or two, but again, that's purely speculation.

Technically they haven't even finished the War in Kryta as i assume where Murro mentioned in a few days there would be a proclamation from the Queen, that this would actually be in some form or ingame speech or another article from himself.

Actually, the Mesmer update was released at the end of May. That's two months for me, with an intense schedule in the middle - the WiK updates and some fixes.

The GW2 team and Live Team are two separate entities. Work on GW2 should not slow down work on the Live Team.

If updates take forever - which i dont mind. whats guildwars gonna look like a year after gw2 is released? never mind that, whats guildwars 2 gonna look like? because if this is their way of doing updates, in game content and bla for one game...it only goes to show what they might look like for gw2, then again i wasnt around in the early days of gw1, i came in two years after the fact.

The game is old as dirt. In the first few years of Guild Wars 2 there's going to be plenty of updates just like there was for the original in its first few years. After all it will be a NEW game.

When GW1 was released, there were updates almost every day. It petered out a bit, but for the first year there were still updates once a week.
When GW2 is released, the team will be bigger than the team for GW1 was. They've also had a much longer time to work with their tools (assuming that they managed to build the new engine similar enough to the old that some of the old tools were transferable), which should also increase output.
The current live team for GW1 has, iirc, 4 permanent members, and they still are getting us some really nice updates. ANet has ~200 people working on GW2 (again, iirc). Do the math.

GW2 is going to have an active live team from the get-go. It's been stated. And that's my guess where Linsey is going.
Plus, GW1 is on life-support. Even with no updates, this game is still 100 times better then other MMOs out there.

A mere 100? GW is the ONLY MMO that really appeals to me. What I want from a game is:
-To be able to build a character of my own that suits my style and preferences
-To be able to team up with my IRL friends
-Hordes of AI foes to stomp
-Enemy players to outwit
-A fair chance against those players, even if I can't spend endless hours farming for gear
-Fighting as a means to an end, rather than the sole purpose of the game
So I play Alliance Battles. Farming up perfect gear is doable, and if I have to change my gear due to an update, I can AB with a PvP-char until I'm fully geared again.

Oh look it's the weekly "waaa no updates" thread, with the usual whiners.
Seriously your expectations are just ridiculous, this is an aging game we should be glad that we even get updates still.

You're missing the point.
1. "Hey guys, we need more resources on GW2 and GW1 is old game so.." = OK. I've no problem with that. If ANet said they are not going to add more updates to the game I'd be ok with it. Sure, it would influence my gameplay but still.
2. "Hey guys, we will stop making frequent updates and do skill updates once every 2 months". = LIES AND DECEPTION. I've a problem with that.
If you don't have time, desire, and/or resources to make skill updates at least one every 2 months, then just say so, but don't pull my nose. And don't lie to me that you planned updates to be done last week but due to unforeseen circumstances they are still not finalized - these unforeseen circumstance seem to happen all the time.
I'm fully aware that often schedules are difficult to meet, but nowdays it looks like it's quite normal that you lie and deceive with the schedule so you gain some advantage in one way or another (keeping customers etc). Maybe to some of you ethics are irrelevant, but that's not my problem.

So, where did they ever claim we'd be getting another update in 2 months? Where did they ever claim we'd be getting monthly or even bi-monthly updates? That's always been a self-assumption, really...
This time, they just said they were working on a new balance update for Dervishes.
It is like 2 years that release dates of anything is "when it's done", so how people are disappointed every two months is beyond me.

"We’re going to slow things down by switching to a longer development cycle for each skill balance. We'll be shooting for a skill balance every other month instead of every month"

It's no assumption, it's what we were told would be "aimed for". Sure it's no guarantee, but that's why people are expecting bimonthly.
To be honest to OP, compared to times before just be happy you know what to expect skill change wise. Who knows when it'll actually turn up as this bimonthly thing clearly hasn't worked out, if it annoys you that much just take a break come back when they arrive.

It seems to be mostly just those posters who think that Paragon and Dervish need to be "fixed". Whether or not they actually do need to be fixed and whether or not ANet thinks so, is a totally different issue.
But, I suppose ANet could tweak a few skills (like they did with the Mesmer) to keep people happy for a few weeks.

"We'll be shooting for a skill balance every other month": that sounds simply like an intention, not a strict planning.
Still, the last balance update happened 2 months ago (21st May), so even if it's out in early August, you'll hopefully be forgiving enough to allow a couple of weeks delay, will you?

In my opinion isn't that long a time to wait...if you have other things in life to do besides play Guild Wars.

^this is correct majoho. i am not upset about the lack of updates as much as I am upset about being told when updates are going to happen and then when they are supposed to happen....nothing. not only that, but we haven't even gotten a fair or truthful explanation over the last year plus as to why they don't happen. just canned responses. do i appreciate the awesome updates we have gotten? absolutely. that doesn't change the fact that i would rather have an honest ansswer or explanation as to why anet would say, "this is what's going to happen" and then what they said doesn't happen.

As it has already been been stated here they said "shooting for bi-monthly updates" that's not a promise in any way, that's just what they are aiming for.
