I see, so that must be the reason why the Italian translations says the interruption in service was to begin at 9.01PM, but it actually began at 9.01AM

Really??? I had everything planned thinking it would have gone down at 9 pm....crap
(also, last time it was saying 9pm as well, so I don't think the error got anything to do with rushing)

Can I just clear something up that 99% of people seem to be missing?

Planned Outage - August 11, 2010
The planned move of the Guild Wars live database for Tuesday, August 10th, has been postponed to Wednesday August 11th, 2010. This was done to ensure that the process meets our high standards for quality.
On Wednesday, August 11th, we will be moving the Guild Wars live database to a new data center. This will require a temporary interruption in service beginning at 12:01AM Pacific time on that date. Service may be suspended for up to 24 hours, although we will do everything we can to expedite the process. Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding during this rare interruption!
They are not updating/downgrading/burning/selling/eating the servers, they are just moving them to a new location.

I believe if they were making changes to the servers it would reflect that in the message.
Moving a datacenter bears no relation to upgrading/downgrading servers, you F.

Call me naïve, but I sincerely believe Arenanet is an honest company, which does not hide the truth.
It does not matter that you don't know everything ArenaNet is going to do, because it doesn't benefit the situation. The server is going down and the only thing you should know, is that you won't be able to play.
Just be patient, wait for the changes and try them yourself.

Yes, because Anet is quite forthcoming with such information even when directly asked...
As for the hardware in question, does Anet OWN all the servers, or like many companies are they merely leasing them? If they don't own it, then moving to a different data center would certainly imply a change in hardware.
What you believe doesn't necessarily equate to the reality of the situation unless you're privy to some inside information that Anet has been unwilling to share with the rest of the community.

No company is honest. Unless a non-profit organisation, but other than that the general rule of the thumb is: if there's money involved, people will do anything to get as much of it as possible.
As a matter of fact, part of a PR's job is to either hide, bend or break the truth so that you try and keep the masses quiet/pleased/informed.
Not saying Anet is a company trying to steal our money (altough with banned acounts, they have been known to steal people's money after they got banned by allowing them to make a new acount, only to ban it a few hours later), but they're still a company trying to make money.
If they had to choose between making money, or keeping loyal to their community, they will choose for the money. They have shown this time and time again.

I'd really think this is the way things are done, rather than owning your own data center. And that the move is from their current datacenter to another lease at a cheaper datacenter.
