Default What if Codex Arena was turned into Costume Brawl, with a Codex?

Hypothetical question. What if Codex Arena, which is currently dead, was turned into Costume Brawl following all of its rules and all, but using a codex? Would anyone like this?
Just out of curiosity.

TA required you to organize teams and builds, offering crap rewards and gameplay as recompense, and was nearly dead. Codex makes the team/organizing part vastly more difficult with nonstandard builds, and is thus even more dead. The real issue is that putting together codex teams takes too much time and effort for no reward, changing the game objectives will not fix this.

So how would it work? Would the forms (costumes) rotate the same way the codex does?

Higher rewards for higher brain functions, simple as. Costume brawl hands you a build per profession and expects you to play AB style gameplay. That's all fine because all the builds are slow/crap/very good at certain things and none are OP (except Hidden caltrops before nerf lol). Plus there really is no thought put into learning how to syngergise/utilise 8 skills.

Shame that even codex play shows that 4v4 can be woeful and broken at times. I'd rather not explain why because people will think I'm a pessimist with a huge chip on his shoulder.

I loved TA because of how easily you can create a "ballanced" 4v4 build and enjoy the gameplay. And then bla bla ruined it and bla is now history. But alas, I think CA would reward me for creating well thought out builds... The problem is, if you're going to provide a codex with pros and cons and with ballanced skills.... Ballance the skills!
Why make a codex with loads of anti-melee hexes, strong melee chains but no decent hex removals and only disrupting accuracy and maybe 1 mesmer rupt? What do you THINK people are going to run?

Oh well.

Hellz to tha yes.

I would play a Costume Brawl/Codex arena every day. Codex just sucks. Although, I do have to admit, it is fun to sync guild teams to play tournaments against each other.

The last time we did it, we synced probably over 100 times in a row.

100% truth.

Costume Brawl has so much potential. It's a shame that we have access to this awesome mode only one time in a year for a short period of time!

Codex in actual form is bad and it was already dead after week from update...

So, if Codex = Costume Brawl, yes hell! But um, we need some sort of Candy Bags... Zaishen can give out goodies right?

The place is dead, get 12 accounts going with enter + resign bots and boom, big title for you!

Have the days cycle skills too.
Add more Arena's with different goals.
Add random larger battles (5vs5vs5)

... In fact, why not also adjust AB to be more like this? Except you can interchange certain skills.

So basically:
  1. Develop a database of usable PvP builds, say 18 per profession (two per profession primary/secondary combo).
  2. Rotate the builds once a day.
  3. Add a random-join button instead of (or in addition to?) forming teams.
  4. ???
  5. Profit!

I'm on board.

Maybe you should've thought twice before going public here on GW Guru about you and your guildies engaging in such activity. You can post all day long about how you and you're guildies aren't abusing the arena, but there's just no way to prove it. Similarly, I cannot prove that you are abusing the dead arena. All I can do is point out that you guys are entirely able to. Thus, I cannot help but to conclude that you guys are abusing the arena despite your apparent denial of it. I'm not trying to offend you or your guild/alliance, I'm merely highlighting that there's a chance that you guys are in fact cheating your way to titles and increased balth. capacities.
Nice work Dirk Malone! Another case solved!

I don't know what's worse: your baseless accusations or the fact that they're so off-topic. Also, lol @ you can't prove it and I can't prove it so I'll just believe my assertion. With logic (or the lack thereof) like that, who needs a shred of evidence.

Just to stay remotely on-topic, I'll say yes to costume brawl since it's a step up from Codex (well anything would be a step up from that cesspool).

I each week of each month 10 creatures were chosen. 1 for each profession, and we had to fight with their builds, but without monster skills, and being able to set only the empty slots in their builds, that would be rather nice...

Get 3..5 skills fixed, and you can only change 5..3.

That would really force people to play with what they are given, like in GW2, and not just pick the best skills available, forming a daily mini-meta.
That would laso help getting used to the GW2 skillsbars, adding skills to a skill bar with some fixed skills.
And what about weapons?
They would drop by the feet when arenas are leaded, so you don't have to worry about bringing an axe when you are a warrior shapeshifted into and Aatxe.

Why do you believe that no metagame would evolve within hours of a new skill pool being in effect?

Codex had a pretty solid idea and didn't work out.

Costume Brawl is random, crappy and generally not fun, why would that work out?

Not necessarily, as people have been begging for Costume Brawl for what seems like ages. CA on the other hand was just an inferior RA.

Wasn't the whole sealed deck thing begged by some the PvP playerbase and touted by the devs as being the best thing since sliced bread?

Anet don't want to spend the resources maintaining any PvP format except GvG and the resources they do allocate is just enough to keep GvG hanging by a thread.

Codex was made becuase anet didn't want to maintain TA/HB why do people think that codex was going to be any different.

Why are some people under the delusion that anet cares about other PvP arenas, they don't, the lack of updates or updates in the works that never materialise proves this.

No dev support and piss poor player mentaility = dead arena no suggestions and changes will ever fix this.

People's ideas of what CA would of differed how it turned out. First off: TA was dead for a reason. It required team play. So, what could make it more dead? Let's change it to require team play and a daily meta that only few people know! Brilliant!

Costume Brawl on the other hand would have preset skills, that Anet would shuffle through (like 5 skillsets per profession) every 1 or 2 months. That would be more then fair.
