Now if we could use this applet without getting banned...
PlayNC says it's okay:
Thank you for contacting Guild Wars Support. We have no issue with the display of information so long as you do not modify, adapt, reverse engineer or decompile the Guild Wars client, or otherwise attempt to derive source code from the client when creating the applet.
But then again Arena Net can be trigger happy with banning when data from GW.exe gets pulled into another .exe
|
Well, seeing as how the original author claims he contacted Anet and they said it'd be illegal, it would appear that there are conflicting claims here. Perhaps Gaile or someone could ask the devs?
Only way I can see the guy getting the info for that applet is either a proxy (illegal) or reading memory locations (illegal).

So does anyone have an email on anet's offical stances on the macro keys?
cause if they don't care, that opens up a lot of possibilities that 99% of players don't even know about >.>

Hi ****
Thank you for contacting Guild Wars Technical Support.
Our all the games can use the G15 as a normal keyboard, but do not support the use of the extra features such as the macro keys or the display. Exception to this Auto Assault supports the full use of the Logitech® G15 keyboard, including the LCD and the extra buttons.
Also, we would like to inform you that Logitech® G15 keyboard hotkeys isn't going to get your account banned.
Please let us know if you require any further assistance.
Regards,
The Guild Wars Support Team

Is that normal English?
Anyway, Support can't be trusted on this matter because half the team says you'll get banned the other half says you won't.

What Texmod does is read/replace textures on the graphics card. Technically, I suppose you could say that it reads memory, but not in the same sense.
Anyway -- hint for the GW2 devs. Why not a DLL that allows us to access "non-cheating" information such as gold, xp etc that we could then use for G15 applets?

It depends on what you do with them.
There's macros out there for all kinds of things. For example, power-leveling drunkard. And even some farming macros.... Note that in some other big MMO, people did get their accounts terminated for macroing using programmable keyboards.
Simply put - if you make your character do something nasty, G15, some macro tool, or by pressing the keys, you're equally in trouble.
For emotes or such one-time tasks however it's fine.

I'm not affiliated with ArenaNet, but if the setup program allows stringing together keypresses and delays, then you've got all you need to make a simple farmbot.
I'd be careful about what kinds of macros I created and used with a device like that, because in all probability it's the nature of the macro, not the device, which determines if it might be illegal & bannable in Guildwars.

Only ones I use is 3 of the side buttons for hero flags (so that way I don't have to move my hand to 3 seperate keys on the keyboard). And I was too lazy to move around certain keys just to unbind new ones.

ok i am currently in a very long conversation support, and their stance is that "quick macros" as in they are only a few keystrokes long, and need human input each time to accomplish it are perfectly ok. pulling information from memory and displaying it the lcd screen is ok as long as it is available to the player another way. Now what is not allowed, fully automation of character with the macro, also if the macro self repeats, you will get banned for having a bot. for the LCD, displaying information that would not be available to the player another way, as in "what a foe is going to drop"
by the way, took nearly a week to get em to put specifics on this. slippery bastages

All my logins are automated, as well as every emote in the game, and a few key sayings I use. Also have /RESIGN on there, and /rank. <3 G15.
Ah, yes, I also have Tainted Necro keybind.
Something like.
Numpad 1
1
Numpad 2
2
Numpad 3
3
Etc. It goes down party list and casts Tainited on them, starting with 1 and ending with 8. Handy in HA/GvG at start of match. Timing is kept into account.
