Hmm... also, ok, now I think I'm genuinely confused...
They said about him being North of Lesser Giant's Basin and continuing north...
North of Lesser Giant's Basin is a large amount of green and unexplorable land, stretching up to the top of the entire map with no rivers...
So how/why are we looking in Watchtower coast etc, which is far south of that?

I wondered this as well.
He... and then we find him to the very far south?
From a strategic standpoint... why go back? We assume that the White Mantle was pursuing him the entire way. If he had enough time to do the above action, why go back and not continue north back to the Eye to get help or to state that he had achieved his goal?
I'unno... seems weird. I <3 the new content and I appreciate the work that has been put into GW:B, but lore-wise and story-wise it seems a little shambly.
Edit: It's not like he was a nobody in the Ebon Vanguard... wouldn't it be safe to say that the WM had checkpoints and camps along the way as they persued him?
Also, he was injured when he went north with Langmar.... Are you meaning to tell me he swam at least 3.5 miles, as an injured man, carrying along another injured passenger? A 6 foot tall person can see 3 miles. Standing on the shore of that basin you can't see the other side (Probably never designed to be that way, but lets just assume), so that means he had to swim at least 3-5 miles to get to the Northern side.

My thought process was he couldnt swim across to the north side without first coming to the south side, coming from the ascalon settlement and all. Of course, that was irrelevant, since the clue was left after he ruturned from the north side, but all in all, the best place to start a search for someone is the last place he was seen to be. And if you cant get there, get as close as you can (i.e. the southern shore of the Giant's basin)
Also, I may be missing something, but it appears to me Thackeray was never injured. Definitely tired, and with the added weight of Langmar, who WAS injured (and later died) but I dont remember anyone saying Thackeray was hurt, and he seemed completely healthy during his quests.

He was injured, as stated by....
"Lawrence Crafton: Nothing conclusive. Tracks that lead away from the grave site indicate that he [Thackeray] too was injured. They head north for a ways but then... "
My source: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Hall_of_Monuments
Either way, injured or not, it's insane to assume he'd swim that far lugging Langmar with him.
Bolded emphasis is mine, by the way. Just to be clear, just in case it wasn't.

Oh. Well, thanks for the link and quote. It is a little absurd to think someone could swim across such a huge distance, even at its shortest sections. But then we are playing a game that involves 8 people killing Gods and entire species of lava monsters. Im not sure what to think of it really.

Since Thackeray is capable of healing himself, he wouldn't be likely to stay injured for long even if he got hurt. I think it's probable that he did get injured but couldn't use his skill in the water while dragging another person.
I don't necessarily think we saw him right when he came ashore. He got a haircut and grew serious stubble in the meantime, which seemed to suggest that at least several hours had passed. By the time we saw him, he may have gotten fairly far from where he exited the water and buried Langmar.

I agree with you. Some time had passed, but I'm not sure what to make of "He had a heal skill so he must've been okay."
A lot of heroes and NPCS all throughout all the campaigns have had heal skills but some have had scripted deaths. Why didn't their heal spells help them then? I don't think lore-wise heal spells are supposed to be there (Sans the monks), since most NPCs we see will have some sort of heal.
I don't know... I'm not buying "He had a heal signet therefore he's hunky dory now."
I'd be more apt to believe that after burying Langmar he simply hid out for a day (or two, whatever) and then made his way back.
The problem I'm having is not only did he, injured, carry another injured body across a massive expanse of water (see: A 6 foot tall man can see 3 miles), but he proceeded to walk back in potentially tainted conditions (See: WM were looking for him, camps/checkpoints/etc set up along the edge of the water.)
Not to mention it would've been exceptionally easy for the WM to pick off two injured people in the middle of the water. (See: WM just getting a boat/raft/log/etc, or rangers pegging them from shore/Spectral Agony.).
Being a storytelling game, the story for Kieran's stuff wasn't really well thought out.
Either way, I enjoyed being an incredibly OP ranger, and I was definitely looking forward to the ending of War In Kryta.

Quick question: I went into watchtower coast with two characters (one from my main account and one from my alt). They've both completed the whole WiK storyline and BLA and all that (yes, I know that's redundant).
However, my main acct's char can get the quest, while the other one can't (it just has no dialogue and the "X I'll be on my way" button).
The only difference I can think of is that the alt char hasn't talked to the Scout outside EotN. Is that required to get the quest? I haven't seen that mentioned anywhere...

I don't think talking to the scout means anything.
If Murro doesn't say you require anything (Just check, you never know...), then it's probably just a bug.

I had the same problem with my ritualist. have you tried going to the HoM after you finished BLA and seeing the dialogue between Gwen and the three vanguard members telling her of Thackeray's disappearance? Thats what triggered mine to start.

Ah yes, I tried it again a few minutes ago. I had done the whole questline on the two characters together, so I have no idea why I'd only seen the HoM dialogue on my main char.
Anyway, that should probably it. Thanks!

I don't see what the fuss is - like every other main character, he has power and strength as the plot demands. No big deal.

WiK has an overquest to guide people through, now. I'd imagine they didn't do the same for this because it's supposed to be a search for a missing person, so they wanted to let the hardcore fans who would enjoy this kind of "treasure hunt" do so without them spoiling it. I wouldn't be surprised if, after a month or two, they put in some more hints for people who still haven't done it. As for how anyone would have found it: well, clearly the hints they gave us were enough, cause we found 'em pretty quickly.
Remember, anyone who didn't understand / know about the WiK is just starting it now. They've got a long ways to go before they need to worry about this content. The "early adopters" really are the people who are in touch with the forums and wiki.

Wait a minute now, didn't Keiran go across the basin after the last quest? Seems more logical when participating in the last quest.

Haircut? Really? Did he stop his evasion of the White Mantle to trim up a bit, and leave evidence of his passage behind? Seriously....
His hair didn't get cut, he just lost his hairtie.

I suspect a degree of luck in finding the items without even looking for them. Afterall, Nick gets found pretty quick every week. Are you saying that this content is only for hardcore players?
ANet asked everyone what they thought about WiK and were told it was too hard to access and find, they acknowledged this. In response they added a new quest line, unfortunately bugged, but also added more content even harder to access! That's not very well done at all. If this is the sort of approach to adventuring in GW2 then they need to sort this sort of thing out, the best way is to listen to feedback rather than pamper to the Wiki hoards.
Hands up, how many claim to have done all his without wiki?

No. I meant what I said. It was nigh-impossible to get through the WiK without wiki help, so anyone who is ready to do this content is at least aware of the wiki. Anyone who is just now starting the WiK because they added the overquest will take a while until they're ready to continue with the Hearts content. By then, maybe ANet will add some kind of overquest for this. Or not, who knows. This isn't completely random (like Nick), there are only a couple of zones that the clues could possibly be in.

How did they rape our wallets? Ive never paid for any beyond content, aside from the costume you dont need to have in order to DO the content. And God forbid a company asks people for money. I mean, we get a high quality online game for almost free, and people complain when an online store is implemented. I never would have thought a business needs money to stay open and continue to give us service. What monsters!
