How is anyone ever expected to find this content?
Following a survey, ANet cam to the conclusion that players thought it was too hard to find, too obscure. Now they have added quests for WiK to address that but it oooks like they made it even harder for players to know what to do!
Part of the problem is that it's bugged to heck, even after fix, I am trying to help someone get it started and they just cant get the quest to recruit the vangard. Even with Wiki the whole quest chain seems either broken or unfathomable.
As for the new Hearts content, seriously, without wiki how would anyone know what to do to get started or to even know about the arrow?
It seems that ANet really haven't thought about this at all or learned the lesson from the first WiK launch. This really needs to be better implemented. What is the point in spending time and effort developing this stuff just so a very few people who read forums and wiki can enjoy it? Anyone else would be completely clueless about its existence.

If it weren't for wiki or asking others in game, there would be a lot of people who would never find it.

This kind of content doesn't get coded overnight, Hearts of the North was probably in the works long before the survey was issued or analyzed.
Expect improvements for Winds of Change, suck it up and deal with the remainder of the Kryta content.

.....well if they just told you where Thackery was then he wouldn't be lost... the buggyness is kinda frustrating for some apparently but I myself have done it with 3 characters and not experience 1 bug yet....

Well, first of all, you have to have completed Battle of Lion's Arch and watched the dialog in HoM witht he 3 people saying Keiran probably isn't dead in order to start the Hearts content. So you're "without WiK..." sentence is pointless.
And ANET did think about it. It's meant to be a hunt. You aren't suppose to be able to just jump into it by speaking to 1 NPC in 1 town. It's end-game content that is leading to GW2.
It's not like they release the info to wiki or guru. Players find it and tell other people. Its actually meant to be 1000x harder than it is. So complaining that its too hard is kind of annoying to hear.

Well damn, I guess the people who posted the info on the wiki in the first place can just read the minds of the developers huh?

I found it quite amusing - i walked out of eotn outpost and spotted a new npc - spoke to him. From what he said i thought about the gwen dialog and where the footprints ended - by a stream/river ... wik is in kryta - so was kieran ... only a few places have a river ... and luckily i chose the right one .
The fun was trying to find an object i didnt know what it was - so i ran around pressing alt to see things and bingo i saw the arrowhead.
If i had been told where it was it wouldnt have been as much fun.
"clueless about its existence" - wik had major viral campaign but hotn hasnt .. but it was announced live on guildwars website ( yes if you didnt realise guildwars.com and they have some details on wik and hotn - just incase no1 knew :P ) and players have been told for a few weeks its going to progress via interviews etc ... unless your a new player ( which i know youre not ) and dont know about the website etc i dont know how you would be clueless.

The mess this has turned out to be scares me for GW2. If they can't keep track of one new quest line in this 'open world scavenger' style how are they going to do 100's at once.

Pardon me if I'm mistaken, but don't you have to go to the website to register for your account anyway? In which case you WOULD be aware. Website also has links to sources to help out (Wiki has a link on the top left of the main page not to mention the Community link which can send you to many other places including here)
Even if someone doesn't use Wiki or Guru, chances are that they know someone who does. A person who goes through this game without ANY interaction with other people isn't going to get far at all. At the very least they're going to ask for help in an outpost/town and be aware (after being informed by others) that communities outside the game exist which they can go to for help. Cripes, there's even a /wiki command ¬_¬
What I HAVEN'T liked so far is the fact that bugs occurred so easily with the update yesterday which affected existing quests/events in WiK. That seems to be fixed now however (correct me if I'm wrong on that).

It's not ANet's fault that most of the playerbase is lazy. Or overlooks hints. Or ignores them.
While unintended bugs are irritating, as they always are, they're being fixed as soon as the team can. The intended part, however, is completely fine as it is.

For anyone who actually reads dialogue, the first two should have been pretty easy to find. They said he swam across the giants basin, and seeing as how we cant actually get across ourselves, the obvious place to begin our search is the giants basin (the big body of water marked by signs in wathctower coast). Then the enemy you pursue escapes into the jungle, which only has one traversable entrance, which is through majesty's rest. But as for everything after that, I completely agree that the thrid one was a bit hard to find. They gave NO clues as to where it was aside from 'further in the jungle' (which is a pretty big search area) and the area it was in had nothing to do with previous WiK content. And the fourth clue had an equally large area to cover as its only clue was pretty much "between here and beetletun"

Wait, ok, I think I'm missing something huge. What "clue" is there in the Scout's dialogue besides saying that we should "start looking in Kryta". What hint is in there that I'm missing? How does that in any way suggest where in Kryta to start looking?

Which footprints are you talking about?
I feel like I'm missing something obvious...
I mean, once you see the Scout's short dialogue, what do you do next?

I never said anything about the scout's short dialogue. I was refering to the dialogue at the end of all of the previous WiK content where they tell Gwen "Thackerays gone, we found evidence of him being alive near the Giant's Basin" You'd have to have seen the dialogue before the scout shows up. Or just chilled in the hall of monuments and not paying attention to the dialogue that was going on, and missing important plot information, as people tend to do.
As a side note, re-reading my comments, Im sorry if I come off as sounding condescending. I dont mean to. Im just not really good at conveying tone through text I suppose o.o

New content should be easy to find, but challenging.

Guild wars 2 is not coded by a limited number of programmers, like the team still working on guild wars 1 new contents

No, no, trust me, I read all the dialogue and do all side quests, just for that reason.
However, I'd finished WiK for the last time a while ago, so I completely forgot about that dialogue at the end of BLA. I feel kind of silly now.
I just re-read the dialogue, and am now on my way to follow the clues and find him myself. I am eschewing the wiki for this part.

All the main site told anyone was that the War was happening and an ongoing chronicle that wasn't reflected in what people were seeing in-game unless they had already been told how to get started. Not a single clue was given about where to go to start it that I could find at the time. I'm fairly sure many others were in the same boat.
