It looks like something didn't make it all the way to Live properly, so the third quest isn't available right now. We're going to look into getting this fixed tomorrow, Joe has gone home to get some well-deserved rest. For those of you that post on the forums, could you please let people know not to kill themselves trying to find it right now? Apologies, but I hope people have been enjoying the new stuff so far, at least. ><; John Stumme 01:33, 19 November 2010 (UTC)

Well, for me this is done already. I didn't create a char, spend time on skills, weapons.. learning to play it.. just to have another craptastic chance to NOT play that char.

I don't want to be Thackaray. No more than I wanted to be a Pac Man wannabe worm or the Asuran version of Pokemon.

Im pretty disgusted right now. I had been looking forward to this.

I'm fine with the purchasable costumes..at least it is attainable and doesn't involve trading umpteen royal gifts in for garbage noob exp scrolls and common consumables worse than Nick gives out every day in Pre for far less effort.

Quite honestly.. Implementation of the WIK and now this gives me pause about GW2 in general.

We couldn't have something cool like a plot about the Charr or something? And I really don't understand people's/ANet's obsession with Gwen. I really couldn't care less about her and I certainly don't care that she's getting married to some Joe Schmoe uninvolved NPC. This is going to be one sequence that I'm definitely going to skip, though I will be curious to see how this particular event is important enough to GW2 history to be worth making a questline about it (when compared to everything else in history you could've made a questline about).

Oh God, I agree with this so much. It seems almost like an excuse to make and pimp more pretty costumes.
Yep, I know the costume thing is getting a bit much for alot of people, it can be a drain on your prescious monies and some feel Anet is just leaching money for very little. As for the free content, this is just a small chapter continuing on from WiK but lore-wise is part of the big picture.

Gwen is highly significant to the story of guildwars, as a little girl who followed you around in pre-searing and everyone wondered what had happened to her since. Well Anet decided that since so many people were wondering, she'd become a major force in the story when they decided that campaign 4 wouldn't meet their needs for the game they wanted.

So Gwen became a central character in the lore, escaping from the Charr and being rescued by the Ebon Vanguard, subsequently being in charge while Langmar was away.

This segues into GW2 as the character Logan Thackeray is a central character in the human side of the story and descends from Gwen and Kieran after they help establish Ebonhawke, much liek your gw2 characters descend from your GW1 characters, which is what all this GW Beyond stuff including the WiK and the wedding and the coming episode in Cantha are all leaning towards.

And looking at the rewards for the new content, it looks like they want to help you get more oppressor weapons for playing along and get points for your HoM, so as lame as a wedding might seem to you, there's a benefit in it for everyone who plays.

Did you really need to regurgitate Gwen's history? Why not talk about her escape from the charr in the BMP?

Here's what's necessary: Gwen's important. She marries Keiran and their descendant Logan is important in GW2. The end.

By the way, there's a new questline.

I personally don't see a problem with the costume prices. Then again, that may be due to myself living in Australia, and whilst our dollar matches the USD, we still have to fork out a hundred bucks (or more) for newly released games, and WoW subscriptions cost around $35.

Case in point.
Gamestop pricing.

Count your blessings. >_>

Oh yeah, plus the GW store still forces us to pay in pounds.

Really? You don't like the idea of variety in a game? The little examples you give are only temporary little intermissions in your normal gameplay. You can still go vanquishing the rest of the world with your favourite builds for the rest of your gameplay.

As for Polymock, it's just a side-game, bears no relevance to the rest of the story. Just something to do on the sideline when you want a break from all the other content in the game, ya know, those 3 campaigns, Hard Mode, titles, dungeons, challenge missions, pvp, festivals, the bonus mission pack... If Polymock is all you have to complain about you must have done everything else to death... which means you've had hundreds and hundreds of hours of content on the character just to have another craptastic chance to NOT play that char.

Playing Thackaray isn't the end-game, isn't the overall goal of all those years of development and content creation and all your input. Just a little side-game to take you out of your element. Relax and enjoy it.

I mentioned her escape from the Charr, so obviously what i do regurgitate, you don't read. And yeah, the reason I regurgitated Gwen's history is to spell out her significance to the lore. The person I was responding to didn't know or else didn't care why Gwen's important.

It's like saying the sky is blue. You can take it for granted, you can dispute it, you can ask why? There's alot of ways to answer a question or to provide enlightenment. Sometimes you need a hammer to get your point across.

I think I just found another quest chain.

I am playing on a character that hasn't even touched WiK yet, working her through EotN. I just went outside of The Eye of the North and Thackeray was standing outside, and gave me a quest called "A Good Deed." (including the period at the end). It seems to be a quest chain to make a gift for Gwen, and it's listed under "Festival Event Quests"

After being away from the Eye of the North for so long, it feels good to be home. Things are, for the most part, as we left them. One thing troubles me though...

Gwen secludes herself inside the Hall of Monuments, continually staring into the scrying pool as if waiting for some response from beyond. It would mean a lot to me if you could spare a moment to check on her and make sure she's doing alright. All that time spent alone isn't healthy.

Reward:
5,000 Experience
500 Gold
500 Vanguard reputation points
I've gone and talked to Gwen, then back to Thackeray, now to a dude in Olafstead, and he's sending me to a craftsman in Varajar Fells.

Ok, I've just finished the quest... it's some backstory about Gwen and her mother after a bit of a (fairly easy) fight against creatures from UW. (most of them aren't very high level)

The sole reason I play this.. after 5 years of EQ2.. is skillsets. The ability to custom tailor my skills to my play. It is, to me, the singular thing that sets this game apart and makes it enjoyable. I do not like content here that forces the use of a canned skillset on an unfamiliar character... anywhere that they implement it. I mistakenly bought the bonus pack.. tossed the books and never bothered with it. My main is Teofa.. a Ranger.. and that is who I would prefer to play the game as, not some joke of an NPC whining after Gwen.

Ok, that's cool. I can appreciate that, to each their own. You worked hard to get your variety of skills, to accomplish what you have in-game. I think it's alright. I bought the BMP too, and enjoyed it for a little while, I'm not stuck with it though, there's loads more to play. All just little bits of a huge game.

This is just more variety, a different piece of content. Nobody is expecting that everybody will enjoy every aspect of the game, it's not built that way.

But with a game this big, the rules change in different places, it doesn't stay the same. You can learn how to play this build, push through the content, get your free stuff and then move on to the next thing on the list. There's far worse things that can happen to you than having to play another character through a little section of the game.

How? You don't have to buy them. I like them I bought them. It's an option not a must.

Anyone have any good screenshots of the new costumes? Curious to see what they look like.

I wish I had waited on spending all that gold on buying new gear to match the Halloween goggles.

Thanks for the pictures
