- The xunlai are present in most districts next to their chests, but no one seems to pay them. Why aren't they stealing our stuff? Same with the Guild Lord. And why doesn't he ever do anything useful for the guild beside waiting to get beaten up?
- Hammers are huge blocks of metal on the end of a wooden stick. Why doesn't the stick ever break considering how heavy the block must be? And wouldn't it be better to make them from metal?

And how exactly is it that I "miss" with a hammer? Even blinded it seems that swinging a huge hunk of metal on the end of a stick around in a packed mob of enemies would be bound to not only hit something but to do some serious damage.

Like using an axe a wooden handle is preferred due to vibrations and the flexibility of the handle. A handle that did not flex would actually be weaker than the wooden handle that is used. The flexing of the handle allows the energy to be dissipated before it comes into contact with the users hands.
One night many years ago I had the discussion with a player in my D&D campaign about 'hits' and 'misses'. He was swinging at a giant and I told him he missed. He got outraged about how a person could 'miss' a GIANT! I let him know that a miss was not really a miss in D&D but a blow, swing, attack, etc that had no possibility of doing any true damage to the monster. A blow that did not get through the armor or natural abilities of the creature.
Just like hit points are not really life. They are the combined toughness of the character. One blow can kill the strongest man, creature, whatever. It is the combined factors of the fight that deplete the hit points of a character. So, even a hit may not be a hit. It is just one more factor leading to the characters death.

Whats with GW tactics regarding fortresses.
The Raven's posting mentioned the battle for Lions Arch and I thought about castles in general in this game.
Pretty much all the bad guys keep the gates closed and we have to either unlock them use a catapult to break them down or get past with stealth disguise etc.
When we defend we always leave the gates open, then what may I ask is the point of having the damn walls.
Northern wall omg the charr army is coming then shut the *!?/£$% gate.
ditto Lions arch, I mean come on drawbridge moat porcullis boiling oil scaling ladders its all in the defend my castle for dummies otherwise known as don't be stupid 101.

Original Before changes - Why they heck did they think ghosts need to walk so slow.

The whole point was that Stormcaller failed, that's why we had to flee to the Shiverpeaks.

regarding armor...why isn't there a changing room next to the xunlai chest? Dye stains so how are we continually able to re-dye our armor(s) - and weapons for that matter? How is my monk able to run around in the cold-ass southern shiverpeaks practically naked (flowing armor)? How are scalp designs switched out once applied? I mean tattoos are hard to remove!
My ranger's bramble recurve bow has been in continous use for four years now -- how the hell has it not broken yet? Why hasn't my ranger's hair ever grown? Where the hell did he learn to breakdance like that? I don't recall a storyline where Turbo and Ozone, or Boogaloo Shrimp showed up in Tyria one day...
Why are necromancers so out of breath all the time? I think they are asthmatic, constantly gasping for air the way they do. They've got serious skin issues as well, I bet they stink.
How are we able to fight plagueborne monsters in melee-range combat, most likely getting blood spewed on us (eww), yet never catch the plague? Where the hell are the hospitals in Kryta? All this death and destruction and never an ambulance cart??
Why is it that Koss is the only black guy in all of guild wars? Where are his parents?
Why can my pouch hold stacks of granite, and stacks of dust piles, yet my ranger can run around just as fast with either?
I've got lots more questions, too!

The Backpack, Belt Pouch, x2 Bags, and an additional Equipment pack.
Total possible space for items on character: 65
The thing that doesn't make sense is that in this massive storage space is that you can store very large and VERY heavy items. I can tell you for a fact that a Mace/Hammer weighs quite a bit, yet i can store 65 of them AND still run the same speed as without them. I have no idea how much Platinum weigh but 100 of them would undoubtedly weigh something.
Yes I know this is a GAME and not realistic but i always thought it was odd that we can have so much storage on our characters without any visual representation.

Maybe we use henchmen and heroes as packmules and that's why they steal so much of the drops - payment for lugging our stuff everywhere.
That, or they're bags of holding or TARDIS pouches.

It takes two adventurers to go into the Northlands and kill all the Charr (including the high ranking distinguished ones who surround the alter), wipe the entire zone out, but the entire royal Ascalonian army is stuck at a gate in the very same Northlands dying over and over, and over trying to kill some simple charr.
The searing could have been prevented by 2 lonesome adventurers.

Monks can run around in tatoo armor without freezing because its magical. The same reason why certain female armor (cough bikini) protects as much as full body armor.
I'm glad our weapons dont break. Dont question it.
We do get diseased in this game. Its just generic disease though, nothing specific.
Koss is not the only black guy. Almost all Elonian NPC's are dark-skinned in some way. And you meet Koss' father in Yohlan Haven and during the quest "The Djarin Estate."

The cataclysm was not the charr, but a response to them. Abaddon and his servants were behind that and the magic in the searing, manipulating charr and human alike.

thanks for the elucidation...however, all of the nonsense found in the game is because "it's magical", that is an implicit assumption when discussing things that don't make sense in the game, what I thought this thread was designed to do was to poke a bit of fun at these anomolous eccentricites in an already contrived and "magical" game. Sardonic wit and humorous criticism is apparently not acceptable?
It's been a long time since I actually played the storyline in NF, I was off-the-cuff with the Koss being the only black guy remark. before I'm accused of racism, let it be known that General Morghan is still my favorite hero, even though I found him pretty useless at the beginning - but so was my main character at that time, lol.
I once had a warrior character I tried to make look like Koss, but with gray hair, replete with sunspear armor and a short sword..his name was Koss' Grandpappy...alas, he's since been deleted.
I think I love this game.

Again, I can accept the McGuffins about magic armor, magic backpacks, etc... but there is a strange disconnect when it comes to trying to feel any sense of loss over the death of a NPC given the fact of rez shrines.
