Players who are going to play the ZQuest with 7 heroes are already playing with 3 heroes and hencies.

Actually it isn't.

I got the title with no farming involved - no boxing, no hammers, not even elite skills capping. My Legendary Survivor hasn't died once in 3 years, his first death occurred when he was well over 3M XP during the War in Kryta.

It's definitely possible and not that hard at all, it's just that people love taking shortcuts...

People would be doing ZQ with 3 heroes right now if they want to avoid pugs.

GW2 really need some sort of group incentives beyond "elite areas"

How you played with that character is the question. Is that char a monk? Did you panic escape from a group? Did you H/h the whole way just so you can panic escape?

Its also nearly impossible to obtain the survivor title if you not the type of person to follow wiki or memorize everything about the game...one wrong quest/mission triggered mob would kill.

It still doesn't solve the problem of lag or having a main char dies the day that the title came out just because a player didn't read the game update note.

H/H through all quests and missions of the four games with a Ranger.

I am that type of person.

Knowing what you're doing is the only "difficulty" in such a title, indeed.

EDIT:

Sure thing, I'm all for some more user-friendliness to the title, don't get me wrong.

I just think it won't stop people from achieving it through shortcuts.

If anything, it's one more almost "free" title they can get, now without even worrying about d/cs. They'll likely be even more incentivated to box for some time than taking the risk of getting it the hard way.

Lag or realizing about the title too late. I think about 80% of deaths of my chars were due to some sort of lag.

Edit: Didn't read the edit.

*Mercenary Heroes
--Micro Transaction

Does PvP Characters count for this? A lot of people don't have free character slots because they either have mules or multiple PvP characters for faster GvG/HA setup.

If Survivor is changed, the price of Kath Hammers is going to zoom up.

I don't think so. The only change announced was you can make a drunkard character in Pre.

Yes. Any level 20 character on your account who can go to the GToB can be registered.

Hope I'm wrong, though.
Same - that's my main concern with the Mercenary Heroes. Can you "update" them - or does that require another slot? Can a character be registered in more than one slot (or rather - are they required to be registered in more than one slot to provide different armour or runes)? What about their skill availability - do they have the availability that your heroes normally have...or the skills the player character had access to - and would this mean that they could use PvE skills?

If you can:
  1. Update the appearance of a registered character by reregistering them to the SAME slot they were in previously, and
  2. Customise their runes/skills like any other hero when using them as a hero
then I'll be delighted (regardless of whether they could use PvE skills or not) - and would likely get a few.

If they're "locked" to what they had when you registered then, can't be refreshed, have their skills/runes restricted according to what they had available at the time...then I'd be pretty disappointed and unlikely to use them ( = no sale to me). They couldn't cope with skill updates if their runes were locked...

I've got no problems with the registered slot becoming customised to that character...just make sure that that character can "refresh" the slot if you get nicer armor or a new costume or something .

And what exactly happens when you're playing the character that the Mercenary hero was created from? Do you effectively lose access to the hero version (making it a slot you've paid for that you can't use globally), or do you get to take "me and mini me" out exploring together?

I'm looking forward to getting some info on how the above turns out in the update notes/game when it's released.

I think the rest of the update so far sounds awesome...it's just the implementation of the merc heroes that sounded a little strange in that video interview, prompting the questions I've listed above.

It sounds pretty obvious to me. Think how heroes are usually and what can already be customised.

You can't change hero appearances or names, but you can mod their runes. So that will clearly be the same with mercenaries.

The only question I have is Hero Armour or player armour to upgrade?

I've wanted most of these changes for years. Basically everything the live team does in this update resonates with what I'd have in mind for the game. The only exception being runed up heroes for money - yeah they need money, so whatever. I'm cool with it.

Methinks all those "GW is dead" doomsayers can clam up now. Stumme has delivered all of his promises so far and if this feature build is an indication of Guild Wars' future, we've got a lot to look forward to.

As for mercenary heroes, I'll let you employed folks test it out before I make a decision. It sounds really incredible and can open up some fun roleplaying and screen capping possibilities. Oh, and combat of course.

Just watched the video on the update coming later today so many things changing its hard to grasp.

But I am very pleased that finally Legendary Defender of Ascalon will be achievable without death levelling something I felt was fairly stupid.

Time to start another character I think

I am sure there was mention that the live team had increased in size due to the workload since they are no longer just doing bug fixes but adding actual content.
