I like group. Either with guildies or PUG.
With guildies, it's fun to shittalk, and cozy when some1 is leading.
When PUG, I like meeting different people. Sometimes things go wrong but most of the times are fine and people are polite.
I like hero too, sometimes even more reliable than grouping with others. But have to micro more.

I never force people to use mandatory meta builds (MMB) because it REALLY gets on my nerves when i get thrown out of a pug if i don't have UA or HB.
Trust others to do their own thing please. It's just a game after all.

Once in a blue moon I PUG but most of the time I H&H everything. I guess you could just call it H-way now. Some days I just feel like helping the odd person out that is stuck on a mission. Just did that the other day at Thunderhead Keep. Guy just wanted the bonus. Thankfully he knew that you have to do the whole mission to get it.
I still group with some RL friends from time to time while we chat on Skype. That can be a lot of fun. Especially when we all chuckle at Hummingbird trying to be a tank with a fire build Ele. She like to Leroy but she is new.

And that's the problem: As an Assassin, you don't join groups, you make groups.

this isn't a pick-up and play thing, some missions, VQ's and what not take an hour to 2 hours to do. So it's a game that requires efficiency.

As a player your class shouldn't determine that. But it does. It's a problem, but not much there can be done about it.

I almost always play on my own, just with h/h. One reason is that I've got limited time, so I might have to leave in the middle of things. Another reason is, I want to play the build I chose, not the one someone else wants me to play.
But there is another thing that keeps me from grouping with others: Instances. At the moment, I am playing another game too. It has no instances, so there is a good chance I see strangers hunting the same mob I am hunting. In this case, I always try to make an adhoc group, because getting the quest done is faster the more ppl you are. However, I wouldn't sit around in a town trying to set up a team, it takes too much time that I could spend playing.
So yeah, GW prevents me from grouping, not so much by introducing seven heroes, but by limiting grouping to towns and outposts. This might not affect someone who has the whole day for playing, but as I play for 1 to 2 hours maximum, I don't have the time to sit around and look for a group.

The only time I pug is when I feel like playing my monk. I enjoy monking a lot, but monking with 7 heros is just awful as I enjoy being warry about my positioning on the field etc. With 7 heros that's severly limited + I need to be calling targets and possibly even lock targets.
While PuGs will never be my first choice when I need something done, they will be my first chocie when I just want to have a good time playing my monk.
On any other character though, I absolutely dread joining PuGs.

I generally don't like grouping in HA because players leave after any lose ( no matter what it is , lose UW or lose after 12 consec..), even if you waited 40mn to form up. You know , 1 leave then second says " i gtg eat " then all do...
The same applies for elite PvE areas, when people get mad if you're 1mn too slow...
However , it's by far more pleasant grouping for vanquishs , HM missions or some dungeons for fun....

People > Heroes.... sure heroes are more efficient... so dry and predictable thou... Its just not fun watching them blow everything up with you attacking or not... just doesn't feel like you even need to be there if heroes had a mind of their own... its nice having people around to learn ideas or even talk to as you go through the game... don't care how long you have been playing you can always learn something from other players...
Pug is a pretty much dead thing... I still like to pick up a few people with my hero/guild groups take em threw a mission/vanq and try to recruit them... I find this the most effective means of recruitment... and "noobs" that you train and accomplish common goals with...are usually more loyal and socially active than any other recruitment source...
I play for fun not efficiency of gold or accomplishment over time... to many people treat this like a sport or a job....

I play for fun too. But I sometimes have a lot of fun joining PuGs.
Basically, if it's anything I particularly want to ensure I get done, I will use a 7-hero party, but if it's not important and/or I'm in the right mood, I'll see if there's a PUG around.
One thing I have learned over the years though, is to not only recognize party-nazis when I see them, but to know when it's probably best to leave a group (in town) and find another. Basically, if I join a group and the leader (or worse, someone who's not even the leader) starts asking to see builds and insist on changes, I leave.
On the other hand sometimes you have good, easy times in PUGs, like just a few days ago I decided to do some Zaishen thing (can't recall what, possibly Consulate Docks). I joined a group (when there was only 2 or 3 in it) and as more people joined, the leader never asked anyone to ping their builds (although a few did). We finished whatever it was in Hard Mode and in very quick fashion. No muss, no fuss - a good time was had by all.

I stopped pugging in prophecies when idiots started asking people to ping builds. I was that warrior with an earth build using a staff, and i freaking beat prophecies using only henchies with it.
I learned a ton h/h'ing everything. I also died a ton as well.
Now I only run with guildies and alliance mates on Elite Missions, or if one of them wants some help.
I generally don't have the patience for people in this game. Doing anything just takes absolutely forever. So annoying.

But don't you think it's a bit of a surprise, having a player like that in a PUG? I mean, you see this warrior, you expect a melee physical. Suddenly, he pulls out a staff and starts casting Earth spells.
What were you doing anyway, tanking using Armor of Earth or something? That's viable, but at the very least you should warn the team that you play like that, so they can work with you (give you space to control aggro, know when to attack, to have extra attention from monks etc.)
I'm the last person to tell anybody how to play the game, in fact I'm a rabid defender of everybody's right to play it however they want. But when you group with other people (random strangers, on top of it) a minimum amount of consideration and communication is in order. Tell them you're an Earth Warrior, assure them you won't be dead-weight and explain how they should use what you do.

What if it's a really dumb build? What you propose is basically no questions asked, no communication of any kind, just run in and whatever happens, happens. Let's just hope you get a team full of good players whose builds just happen to synergise, because it happened to you this one time so it might happen again, right?
I don't see how you can have ANY expectation of decent gameplay with this approach. It's just as extreme as being a build-nazi, only at the opposite end.
Don't take me wrong, I play games where the guerilla approach to tactics works or is even _the_ way to play... but it's a shame to fall into that if you don't have to.
The happy middle ground is when people in a PUG have a talk before they start, they all show their builds voluntarily and make polite suggestions for improvement to each other (with explanations, and without insisting). But I guess that's too much to ask.

If you play by yourself then just play a single player game instead.

^^^ This. I'd probably play Oblivion or Dragon AGe if I was into a single player games. I like the social aspects of the MMORPG and I enjoy good teamwork, especially with my guild. When we're in an elite area and the caller calls for a spike and we nail it... the feeling is just incredible. When I'm alone, my accomplishments really don't mean anything. The coolness for me comes in the sharing a job well done between team mates.
Also, the international community is fun and interesting. I like playing the game with people from all over the world.
That said, if I'm in a hurry or my computer connection is acting wonky I just load up with heros. So that option is nice, but not super fun.

Same here! Thankfully my guildies are very tolerant of my need to take constant snapshots. They find it amusing and often ask in the middle of VQing if I need to stop to get a shot of the mountains or if they should pose their characters with mine. Random people...not so much.
I don't want to play the game just to get from point A to point B. I want to enjoy the game and see it all and read the dialogue and experience everything. When I don't have understanding friends available, I'm very very VERY glad heroes exist because they allow me to take my time and play the game my way.

(begin rant) why do people do that? It's so freakin' annoying and incredibly... childish and it completly kills my faith in their ability to play GW. Whoever does that should be embarrassed. it's dumb. It's stupid. And it makes the person doing that look like a moron with an IQ of 10 (end rant)
