No, I am not terribly worried. Every forum in every game I have ever played has had the "this game is dead" set and they will pronounce that over the slightest excuse, update, new game release or cloudy day.

GW2 is a new and separate game. As it looks right now, I personally have lost enough interest in it that I won't purchase it. They dropped too many of the features I play GW for. I will be staying here.

As I have mentioned before.. Everquest was pronounced dead when Everquest 2 was released. It it now 12 years old. so much for predictions.

GW is unique, GW2 will not fill the niche it has, and is not a replacement. There is nothing in the industry that can replace GW, at this time.

GW1 has something GW2 doesn't - our beloved heroes.

I am not leaving GW1 for GW2 as yet. I like my heroes.

I'm not worried about GW1 dying, because I'll be playing GW2.

Things have their time and you move on.

Funny, I feel that it is GW1 that feels simplified in comparison to its sequel, so far.

But I'm not worried, as long as GW2 looks as good as it is looking so far.

If the servers do eventually get shut down I wonder if Anet would consider a solution for those who have invested many years into their characters and regard them with some affection.

Perhaps they would sell a standalone limited version of the client and server code which could be installed on your PC and provide a non-connected environment to keep your characters and heroes in, and offer some limited explorable areas etc. to visit your old characters for sentimental reasons. Better than just having them deleted if Anet finally pull the plug on the GW1 servers (maybe many years in the future).

Then again, as processing power and storage get cheaper, it may be a very low cost option just to keep them running. Who knows.

Nah. There's always people with old computers that won't move to GW2 because it won't run properly or not at all.

Things become obsolete after a while, that's just how it works.

That being said, since the gameplay in GW2 is pretty 99% different I don't see why people wouldn't still play GW1 if there were still minior updates for it, if not I guess at least PvE would be pretty pointless when you've done it all.

Eh. GW1's not going to die when GW2 comes out, though a population drop will be inevitable. GW2 will be WAY too different to steal everyone away. At most, it'll permanently get those who are currently here only to grind the Hall of Monuments, and that's unlikely to be a majority of players (remembering that this forum is *not* representative of the population at large).

I'm not buying gw2. I do not want to grind away at another game and wonder what has happened to the last three years of RL. GW1 fulfilled an obsessive compulsion to finish what is undone. Thanks a-net for the free ride (which would have been expensive in WOW), and the wonderful virtual experiences. I plan to check back in a couple of hours per week and will hopefully have my 4k more chests ran in the next 3 years!!

At this time I will continue to play GW indefinitely at my leisure and I don't plan to get GW2 now at all, but that may change.

I've purchased just about everything GW has to offer in support of GW (NOT GW2), and some on more than just one account.

I'll play GW 'til they shut down the servers, then I'll stop playing and wasting my time and money on ANET and MMOs.

I kind of miss creating my own worlds and campaigns in NWN 1 and 2 to play through with my friends.

Yeah unfortunatly the developers at Bioware (and other places) realized that people had too much fun with their games without them making money off it so they decided to push "closed" games with little to no ability to mod things.

(insert commas as you wish, I'm no good at it).

I might play a bit more on gw1 after gw2. But I already have 50/50 and I look forward to gw2. I expect it to die slowly and Im not worried about it. Its time to get a new improved game aka gw2.

Guild Wars is in my opinion one of the best games ever made. And i really fear that Guild Wars 2 will fail in preserveing this spirit, this fun Guild Wars has given us for many years. I will buy and play Guild Wars 2 but my heart will always stay in GW, more specifically, in pre-searing ascalon.

It'll eventually die, but probably not until at least 2 or 3 years after GW2.

Depends what you mean by "die." I think a fair number of people (myself included) will still keep playing it until they kill it.

I'm not going to be invested in this game anymore after GW2 comes out and I get my prizes from the HoM in GW2, so no, I'm not worried about GW dying. I'm not happy about it, of course, but it doesn't seem like the Live Team is going to be given the resources to continue updating the game at a reliable pace and to a decent extent after GW2's release.

Will I be worried about GW1 right after GW2 is released? Not at all.

In fact, I imagine even more will be done for GW1 after GW2 is released. After GW2 release, Anet will have alot more staff available to update GW1 and keep both games fresh. As I recall ANet has plans to keep a live krewe working on GW1, including content and updates. GW1 will probably be supported for at least a couple years, if not just as long as GW2. Anything could happen, but thats how I see it.

I can easily see myself going back to GW1 for holiday events, finishing up on titles(lucky), and new content if it is added.

Why would it matter? Unless you are one of the 5 people in the entire game who never plays with heroes, having less players won't matter that much.
