I haven't seriously PvP'ed in about 3 or 4 years, but is there a reason Guilds would want to tank themselves on purpose?
Only reason I can think of is if they are a smurf of a top-ranked Guild and they want to intentionally tank other "rival" Guilds in ATs or something equally nefarious, but I thought that wasn't as prevalent anymore?

I'd imagine it's people just artificially putting more rating back into ladder circulation if that makes sense.
Means higher ranked guilds will reach crange a bit faster and with a champ weekend coming up in a couple weeks that'd be my guess.
Edit: durrr, didnt think of the strongboxes foxbats probably right

There is now that they can sync and resign to each other to farm stronghold boxes.

They create dummy guilds to just enter loads of ladder matches so that they can farm their trim-guilds back into c-range.

Guilds that are actually going to be able to win at champ range will have no trouble getting back into champ range just doing the AT's that they would regularly do. To sync in champ points you need at least 8 guild and right now that is going to easily be show up on obs mode. Its not about champ farming, its about strongbox farming.
Also if you have a new, but legit team tanking your rating to start with isn't the worst first step as it will tend to put your guild facing teams that are not at the top of the ladder.

I wonder if there is a way pver's can exploit this....red resign gvg? simply out number the pvp guilds and chances are you'll face another pve resign willing guild?
So to farm strong boxes one side simply does nothing while other side kills gl. PPl willing to farm this would used the unrated gvg option...and voila pve farming of gvg strongboxes..making items easily obtainable
(note* I am not advocating this....just seems like the same thing pvp guilds are doing via tanking....besides its basically match manipulation)

OR.... it would work great. People would be forced to avoid min-maxing their bar and instead bring something that works "okay" on both sides. This would prevent heal only bonder monks and other hyper defensive builds on the Kurzick side.
Forcing people to have to prepare for both sides would do a lot to balance the arena. Of course it wouldn't work if people brought the builds they bring now. But the entire point is to a) force people to play Luxon and b) force people to change their builds as a whole.

I think you're overestimating people who play FA and JQ.

Looks like a really solid update. A lot of 'reward creep', as someone put back there, but as an older game, I don't think the population will mind all that much. There's a lot going for PvE right now - I might say I agree with the people on a chest for VQ'ing (a reduced monetary reward is fine too, I'd just like something more random, sweets, a very few rare items.. etc - makes it more fun) - but the PvP scene needed to give people incentive to learn it.
I'm certainly going to be trying out some PvP at some point, I've always been pretty horrible at it, but maybe I'll play more and try and improve. In the meantime, those titan quests will be an interesting challenge. The Titan Source was pretty difficult on it's own, originally - the HM version will be brutal unless you do a full human party I'd imagine.

This update was clearly an attempt to draw more people to PvP. Couldn't they have tried to improve the actual PvP gameplay rather than dangling a carrot?
They've dangled lots of shiny new carrots but did nothing to any format to make the combat more fair or enriching. It just causes frustration.
They might like to start with their own wiki:

Why the Y^%$^#$%$#@#4 Envoy staves only available in primary attributes?
WTF was the purpose of assigning only primary attributes to cool skin stuffs anyway?

There is a significant amount of testing and development to "improve" PvP gameplay, and it takes time as there are limited amounts of both in any given update. Keep in mind that the time they spend is split with PvE and events/holidays. It sounds smart to say "fix the game", but in reality it's a process that won't happen overnight.
A lot of these changes didn't require much testing and only a small amount of development time. It rewards people already playing and attracts some players that may have stopped or are currently solely PvE. To me it's a win-win even if it, like anything, is imperfect.
They're not going, "Well, we have out PvP rewards. Let's call it a day." There are more updates coming out and future improvements. That approach is something they could have taken months/years ago, and just focused all their time and resources on GW2. Obviously less people are working on GW1 today than use to, but the effort is still there.

If you aren't using your primary attribute, then why are you playing that class?
I suppose HCT mods, but really PvP efficiency hasn't ever complained about not being able to use every skin.

None of those are primary.
Especially fire, Jesus. Every ele ever thinks fire is the best element.

Who cares about wand damage? The att only matters for your HCT mods.

You completely missed the point of his post. He was saying what about builds that do not make use of the primary attribute. I realize that most builds do, but not all.
