I chose my class genders on one thing...how they look in their Armour.
Some look better on the girls, some on the guys! thats literally all it comes down to... no "i need to look at girls butt pixels" or "fear of been chatted up as a chick!" or anything...just preference on armour and if it suits the class body shape..
Example been, female warrior over male soley cos the males look all like refrigerators.... and male mes over female for them sharp suits!! oh yeah!
And yeah, part of this IS the body shapes they gave the to guys, that make certain sets look terrible on some classes...

That's right, my characters are not me so why should I care what other people think of them? For example, this guy:

The purpose of the game is for ME to have fun, being a straight guy with a wife and kid, it has always been more fun looking at females than males, for me. But if some of you guys prefer to look at guys, go ahead.
It is not my responsibility to unconfuse them, as long as I have fun, who cares?

I'm male and all but one of my characters are male. It's simply easier for me to relate to and "get into" my character when we share a gender.
My paragon is the exception. I simply could not make a male paragon that looked tough and masculine, I tried. I get thier armour is supposed to be sorta hellenistic, but it's a lot less "300" and a lot more "Alexander"..so I gave up. I figured if I can't make a character look like, and I'm going to be staring at the backside of it all day, it might as well be a backside that's nice to look at.

This topic only matters to sexually repressed teenagers who constantly worry about what other people think.
The rest of us just roll whatever we want and don't care.

I'm a male, more than half of my characters are female. Why? Because this is Guild Wars. It's a computer game, not an RPG. My characters don't have a unique personality, they're just different classes that go about killing things in a different fashion. I am not my characters.
If you're actually 'role playing' your characters in video games, do yourselves a favour, get off your computer and go and try some paper and dice RPGs. Even if it's 4th ed. D&D you'll realize how pointless it is to care about people that pick male or female characters in a video game and stop asking these annoying questions. You'll also realize the best thing about RPGs: playing yourself all the time is boring. Sometimes it's fun to play as others.

What kind of answer do people hope guys will admit? People are making a lot of excuses and giving a lot of reasons, what do they not want to look like?

You where expecting something along the lines of "I like the boobies, and being a sad game geek who never leaves the computer in my mom's basement, this is the only chance I'll get to see some!"?
I doubt most people put a lot of thought into the choice, I think maybe some people are reading way too much into what, in most cases, comes down to a coin toss.

i like to have my characters balanced out, as many have said before, so i run the gender i think most suits the profession. my sin, necro, and monk are male, while my derv, warrior, and ranger are female.

I'm a guy and I have a female character as my main. Don't know why, I guess I just like variety. I think it's more fun being a female character, because most video games that aren't RPGs are males. It has nothing to do with wanting to look hot or sexy (because my main isn't). Has nothing like "eww I don't want to look at a guys butt". It just happened to be that I made a female warrior, and enjoyed the class so much it became my main.

I play female characters because they are smaller.... I like playing small characters. plus I prefer their casting animations. I don't like melee. Plus I like the girl outfits. Plus girls make a girly yell when they die. Plus the girl voice actress is pretty good. Plus girl dances are pretty cool. Plus I think it's weird to be a guy that is fighting against girls, so I'd rather be a girl fighting against guys and girls. Plus girls smell better than guys so I can pretend my girl character smells nice. Plus...
EDIT: The real answer to why I play female characters is because I think they look pretty. They are aesthetically pleasing to my eye balls.

Seriously, at least a third of the males in this thread are just lying. We're not running for public office here, no need to be ashamed. Although I do have some male characters for variety's sake.
And let's face it, there's a reason every single guild wars box cover has a female and no males.

I'm female, and I play exclusively females. It's just a thing with me.
I always have to roleplay my characters a little, even if their whole story is just in my brain and I never write it down... and somehow, I just can't click with male characters. It's been that way since the first RPG I ever played. One of my friends now chews me out because I won't even play male champions in League of Legends (it's not my fault Riot hasn't come out with a female tank yet!).
I just couldn't imagine ever representing myself as a male. I'm content with representing myself as a member of a different species (in fact I usually prefer not to play humans as well), and I'm okay with representing myself as someone of a different ethnicity (my main is black), and I'm okay with representing myself as a person of a different sexuality involved with someone who is also a representation of myself (remember what I said about RPing in my head? according to the Qing's-Imagination canon, my Mesmer and Dervish are life partners), but I just can't be a guy.

I used to have all female characters.
Because I think armors look better on females.
I recently cleaned out my characters I hardly play and replaced them with males.
