Well, if these really are the weapons, I don't need em. We'll see what the commendations sell for when these come out.

It was inevitable. We always had the Chaos Axe, Storm Bow and Fiery Dragon Sword, but for the most part GW stayed away from the shiny weapon trap. Then they made elemental blades and chaos gloves and it was all over from there. The latest trend is size matters. Small swords are all being turned into new daggers after the popularity of Law and Order and Alari's Double Blades.
Personally I think that imperial dagger looks like garbage (with the focus not far behind it - fortunately I really like the daggers of purity) but I really liked the sword and shield in game - they did a great job working with the style and details on them. I'm personally looking forward to getting most of the martial ones (the bow, sword, axe and scythe look great, that could be my favourite spear in the game). I found the Opressor Weapons to be pretty fugly and another case of cruft I have to collect to fill the HoM not because I actually wanted it. The glowing red effect is... glowing so people like it, but I always found it restricting to the characters armours and colours I want to use things with. The imperial weapons look a lot more thematic for Canthan and Tyria in general, their elegant simplicity will work well towards making them usable with a variety of different armour sets and character looks. I hope they make them noticably dyeable unlike the other recent weapon sets to be added to GW (Deldrimor, BMP, Opressor etc).

Give us Oroku's Shinobi Blade daggers at some point and allow them to be dyeable and I'd be thrilled. They aren't quite as garish looking in my opinion as the WiK sword-dagger skins.

Actually it isn't WoW that I base my "they look bland and uninteresting" comments on, but other precedents in Guild Wars itself. IE the other dedicatable weapons, Destroyer, Tormented, and Oppressor, all have more "bling" to them (yes, the destroyer weapons have glowing lava animations). These just look like old dull flat metal.

It always mattered. The Fellblade was easily the most popular attainable drop in Prophecies. The Runic Blade (long) and Stygian Axe (wide) were enormously valuable until EotN killed their rarity.
The gaming demographic skews male. If you ask the average male whether he wants his virtual avatar to wield the realistic sword or the comically oversized sword, it's an easy call. The enormous popularity of Cloud Strife is all the evidence you need to settle the question.

The axe looks good. But it depends on the size, if its like the oppressors axe, no thank you. I like the daggers too.

The reason why Imperial weapons may or may not be added to the HoM is that when Oppressor Weapons came out and were made addable to the HoM, the HoM GW2 reward calculator hadn't come out yet.
If they add WoC stuff to the HoM, that would mean they would have to either 1) change the point values of HoM rewards (which would take points away from people who would then have to add these to be maxed again) 2) add them to the HoM but not give them any HoM points (which defeats the point) or 3) the best solution I can think of, make it so that it is Oppressor Weapons OR Imperial Weapons count and that they overlap in the HoM Calculator.

Or it would be nice if they counted for one extra point. Giving us some flexibility, just like we have with titles and minipets.

I think #3 would work the best. Just change it to "Any Guild Wars Beyond Statue" and that would then cover them if we get something after WoC.

In response to all those "these purple skins are recycled" comments:
1. Having a fan as a wand is new. What's more, it's a nice looking universal wand, which is a godsent for those attributes that cry out for a 20/20 wand, but everything available is ugly.
2. Ditto that with the chromium shard focus.
3. Ditto that on all the bows except longbow.
4. Jitte as daggers is also new. What's more, it's actually functionally new too, since daggers have never before been able to do blunt damage.
5. Most of these items are essentially "new" because the "old school" drop system prevented them from occurring with usable mods as far as most players are concerned. Ever seen a 15^50 grinning dragon axe before? How about a Death Magic Platinum Staff with 20 HCT for Death Magic? (Instead of, say, "Req 12 Death Magic, 19% HCT Divine Favor"?)
6. The only ones that are truly repeats are the sword (craftable before), the longbow (insc. EotN drop), the shield (relatively rare EotN dungeon drop), the scythe (EotN drop), the spear (EotN drop), and the primary attribute (+ inspiration) versions of the staff (insc. EotN drop).
All in all, I'm reasonably satisfied with the purple items.
(THough I do wish inscribable platinum wands were available too. )

The Imperial sword and daggers are pretty sexy... Depending on how the color looks with my warrior's armor, I might even replace her Plagueborn Sword that took me weeks to find. I don't think I'll get much use out of the rest, though.
EDIT: Wow, what's the point in complaining that the purity weapons are purple? They function EXACTLY the same as golds, get over it.

Gold weapons make you cast faster
The imperial weapons are looking pretty nifty. Much nicer than the Opressor set - didn't much care for most of the weapons.

Except for the daggers (looks like real poniard for the first time) I'll second that and I guess the series could be very stylish - f.i. the sword. Also the axe, scepter, focus, staff, first and last the spear have a great opportunity to end up in my collection. Only the scythes don't look like a scythe in the majority of cases.^^
