I missed 1 Event in all of GW... 2 years ago. You don't see me bitching about the hats. You missed it, you'll get over it just like I did.

Its people like you OP, who clog up Anets support box with useless things. If it matters to you this much, then maybe the power outage needs to come back and stay with you a while.

<---Missed several individual Holiday Hats.
Would I like the original Witchy Hat? Sure.
Am I gonna gripe about it and send a ticket?

They could at the very least put a vendor after the event just like the other holidays but I think you will just have to get over it bud.

They should make a specialized mission for retrieving previous holiday hats. that way you would still have to work hard for them but they would still be attainable.

I think the hats are a great reward for participation.

If the player doesn't even have to bother to show up, and doesn't even have to pretend they're involving themselves in the event to get one... what's the point? They're meaningless if they don't actually reward participants for playing.

I don't want to give people less reason to want to be involved in the game or less incentive to make an effort to show up for a community event.

If I didn't care about the game or the hats, I wouldn't care how they were distributed. I do care, I just disagree with you.

On topic: I agree it would be nice to maybe have a sort of hat vendor in place for a few days after the event. However, I also agree with some of the other posters. The hats are a reward for actually attending the event. If we keep going down this road we'll be having festivals for months at a time.

P.S.

You're way overreacting... chill the crap down. You don't always get what you want.
I agree with everything you're saying bud. hat vendors after a couple days would be perfect.
And referring to the intelligence thing, I don't think its right for anyone to come onto this forum and demotivate someone. anyone can have their own point of view, take a breather the few of you who need to bring others down.

I totally agree that it will lose the overall meaning of holiday events if we have such a long extension, or a long-term availability for holiday items.

And it is impossible to get both masks if you just leave toon AFK because you have to switch towns to get both.

As someone who, up untill now had perfect hat collection (every single hat, ever, it was pretty damn hard and challenging), I am slighty annoyed for loosing that prestige.

Say what you say, but in WoW seasonal events as I remember them were much more compatible with casual gameplay and doing usual seasonal stuff in RL.

I've got some hats, and missed out on others. It hasn't blighted my GW experience in any way shape or form.

But then again, I know and appreciate that GW is a game that which I choose to play in my spare time because I enjoy it. If GW ever drove me to get so bent out of shape that I felt the need to take the action the OP did, the I'd seriously question why I'm playing it.

GW is not RL (and not nearly as important).

I agree in some way its really challenging, but then again like everything, a game needs it challenges, so others can rise above others in the game. Same circumstances with titles. You got to work hard to have the privilege to boast

I see where you're going with WoW, but the difference is, GW works on a different style of gameplay. WoW is based upon more of a 'sandbox' gameframe. on the other hand, GW is based upon instances, for now. GW2 will definately show how it will offer things differently through the sandbox effect.

I feel like this discussion isn't going to get much further, given how discontent the OP is.

Let me know if there's a good reason to keep this thread going - detailed suggestions can and should be posted and discussed in Sardelac.

Bundle all the event hats together and put them in the store or just put a NPC that gives them out rather then waiting around afk.

I got my hats this year, but I see no reason dedicated hat collectors in the northeast should be screwed.

Temporary hat vendor or trader is fine too.
Amen.

I got all the hats myself, although I had to leave my PC running two hours before the finale would start, with multiple clients while I was at work. Half of the clients had disconnected and many didn't get the hat, luckily I could attend two more finales when I got back from work so eventually got it all on the accounts that had missed out.

AFKing isn't really an option due to the disconnects and the fact that you have to be in two towns to get both of the hats. Especially so when you got loads of accounts.

The hats are for participating in the event. I'd agree that the window for participation is narrow, but not for the same reason. Halloween in GW coincided with RL Halloween for 6 hours in my time zone. That could be viewed as an advantage or disadvantage. What I'd suggest is extending Halloween to begin when Halloween starts on earth, at the international date line, to midnight when it ends at the last place on earth. This would mean Halloween runs for 48 rather than 24 hours, but each time zone would get 24 hours of Halloween on Halloween, and 24 when it isn't (either before, after or both). I'd like to see this for weekend events, too. A 1/4 of the weekend is done before it starts where I am.

As to missing out on a hat, well, hopefully GW will be completely redundant soon and you won't care anymore. If Anet recognise that people play GW outside of the States, you might just get a wider window of opportunity you're hoping for.

The finale has been the most retarded reward tradition in GW for many reasons.

By the time you get the hat, you wear it for a few hours then the festival is over. You can't use it to dress up for festival quests, PvP arenas or anything like that, they become relics and dated almost instantly. Let people who are celebrating Halloween in game do it for the entire duration of the event by linking the hats to content to be completed during the entire course of the festival. This gives people at least one whole week to obtain the hat by actually playing the game. They can then use it to customise their character in a festive way for the rest of the event.

Finales are the dumbest tradition in Guild Wars, afk'ing for thousands of players in often more than 100 districts in two different towns in absolutely stupid. Clearly from the OP's situation, and hundreds of other variations, ArenaNet can see that the finale system of obtaining the much desired hat has massive flaws and almost no value to retaining it.

I think it would be cool to have a Halloween mission set. and through the mission set you would in the end get a halloween skin dye for your armor, would be pretty insane actually.

Nope. The hats will never be available again. Not from Thorn, not in the GW shop.

If they were in the GW shop, those that couldn't get them for free could at least pay for them to get them.
It won't solve the troubles for everyone, but at leasy it would be something.

We've also ruled out that you must participate to get a hat, since some festivals have collectors after and some people just keep farming and them buy the tokens for the collector after. And some people is just AFK during the festival.
BEing AFK or coming when the party is over is NOT participating.

We also ruled out that all those that participate get to keep the hat, since it's not directly unlocked and accidents may happen. You may have left the guy AFK, forget to give the hat of have a mindslip that made you think you already showed the hat, delete it and... gone, forever. Even if you did participate.

If you may have the hat without participating, and you may not have the hat even after participating, why is people sticking to that?

We should keep only what's is really true: When you get them in-game, you get them for free.

Just putting them in the GW shop would be welcomed be many players. We already got them for free, so what if they can get them too? I won't enjoy my free hats less because more people have them, newbies have the right to enjoy all of GW, even those silly deer horn hats, and if Anet gets more cash to do more GWBeyond in the process, it's a situation in which everybody wins. Making hats that will be sold later would also ensure they make better hats more people would like.

I think more content for all should prevail over some anal fixation of a few.

people may feel differently about the hats than you do, no? just saying I know people who value the hat because it comes only once a year, so it makes it even more special when its part of their collection.
