Wrong. I missed out, I'm pretty bummed about it, but opportunity has passed and that's that. While it would be great to have, Anet don't owe it to me.

OT, I would like to thank Anet for this 2nd opportunity to obtain the Halloween hats this year - I was able to get mine, but a friend who, due to unfortunate RL problems has been unable to be ingame for some weeks, will now have a chance to get both hats. So on his behalf, a big Thank You, it's an unexpected bonus.

I'd be fine for the Halloween hat giver to not be a permanent addition, considering the Halloween event is meant to reward your participation in Mad King Thorn's mini game, as opposed to have x number of event items in your inventory. If I can't make it due to whatever is happening in RL, then that's just too bad. If I can't make it due to some massive natural event that also affects thousands of other players, then I will trust that Anet will put a fix in place, as they have this year.

Cheers.

It is nice of ANet to allow for the players that missed out on this hat due to unforeseen natural circumstances that caused a massive power outage in New England. It's only for a week, so I don't see what the gripe is all about... I would like the cat ears/goggles I missed from last year, or all the Halloween masks from previous years. Had work to do and was too tired afterwards or drunk from Halloween party to think about playing GW. I snooze and I lose. Have this years, but think they suck compared to previous years.

I can't wait to see the whining when corn and cookies are selling for 1k+/ea once the hat giver is added.

It's awfully nice of ANet to do this, but if people who missed the finale are thinking that traders won't take advantage of the situation, they're crazy. If you missed it, better make sure you get 50 of each now while they're still fairly cheap.

Wow cookies and corn at 1k for a week? w/e will we do...

People complained about not getting a once in a lifetime item due to unforeseen circumstances(the power outage on the east coast usa) and its a good thing anet is doing this to show respect to their customers, it's a sign they care. So what if people see an opportunity to make a some plat, it only lasts a week.

You missed my point. I don't care one way or the other if traders take advantage of it. I wasn't condemning it at all - if people see an opportunity to make some extra cash, great.

I'm just expecting a bunch more complaints along the lines of "I missed the finale, and now I can't get my hats because it'd cost me 100k! ".

Scary to think most people now respond with:

"If I can't make it due to whatever is happening in RL, pay someone else to do it for me, or check Google for the best bots available."

Even though jimbo and I ~disagree in our chats about the likelihood of this having a noticeable impact on the "ToT market prices," I have to say ...

+1 internet point to you buddy!

I see your intent to help raise awareness and warn folks who might not have realized the possibility that the items will become more expensive to buy. I think it's commendable to post that here. If it only saves a player or two from being upset later, then it's worth it. Good for you!

As for my own opinions on the matter ...

I hope ANet is doing this both to
  • Complete full implementation of, IMO, good idea.
There have already been such second chances for hats in other events for a while now. Having the same for Halloween hats, too, is a good thing, if only surprisingly long time coming.
  • Help out a group of players who were upset and managed to make the most noise about it in the right place. "The squeaky wheel gets the grease," isn't such a cliché for no reason! Such is life.
I can see the arguments about it being unfair to folks who missed prior hats, but I'd rather see a mistake or discontinuity fixed now and for the future than see nothing done at all because they can not or will not go back and fix such problems that happened in the past.

In summary, thanks ANet! If I've interpretted this correctly, then +1 internet point to you all, as well!

Its understandable to be pissed about there not being a Halloween hat vendor for those who missed out because all the other holidays have them. However I don't see people bitching other than the ones that are complete idiots whose threads will be deleted(trolls). I am sure the people who complained knew they would have to give items they obtained during the event or buy them from other players and if not all I have to say is... derp.

So people here are upset that ANet is trying to help people that were unable to make it to get their hats? Shame on those who are upset and a HUGE Thank you to Anet on behalf of those who were unable to attend.

BTW: The Mad King still makes me laugh after all these years.

ToT bags have been falling from the sky like rain drops since 2009. If you want to stand around in kamadan all day trying to sell ToTs for phat loot then be my guest.

https://forum.guildwars.com/forum/fo...-Update/page/1

here is the official post at the official gw support forum. it contains some updated info.

BTW: for people with ideas on how to make it possible to get previous years' hats, it may be more effective to make your suggestion there since it will be read by the developers. you just need to use your game account to login and post.

Should I be nice and sell my extra candy corn and cookies to people who couldn't attend so they can get their hats? Or will I eat them for the perks they bring along with the Sweet Tooth points? Of course, I'm going to keep them for myself! Using them in hard areas to work on titles means more to me than someone else's fleeting vanity. Knowledge and LTP > Character's Appearance

I would think we'd get the holiday drops back too. Kind of hard to get the hats except buying from other players otherwise.

You would farm for them all day, so why don't you just take a little bit of your time to farm something that makes you a lot of plat, and set for buying off people.

Wasn't the official, stated reason for this an effort help players who were around for the Halloween period but, due to inclement weather causing wide-spread power outages, missed the finales? If that's the case, then perhaps the idea is that said players should've been around playing during Halloween, gathering up ToTs anyway??? It's just a guess - I'm not saying I agree or disagree with the premise.

I realize having event drops is not and was not ever a requirement to get the hats at a finale (except for the one where you need tokens in inventory in Shing Jea when the emperor arrives - Dragon Festival, is it? It's the one w/out the celestial thing coming to sniff the tables.) However the other events' second-chance / post-finale hat-offering NPCs all do require that you turn in some kind of event drop for hats, right? So in that respect it makes sense that a second-chance / post-finale Halloween hat NPC would demand Halloween event drops.

There's a good chance most of them have sold or used up whatever they had left over from Halloween. They didn't announce this til about Nov. 9th. And since they wouldn't have needed anything for the Halloween hats, I wouldn't expect everyone to have Halloween items saved up for the finale either.

I think in most instances they collector is announced in advance. I know for Wintersday 2009 they actually did a redux of the event, so you were able to farm up shards if you needed them. Wintersday 2010 hat giver was apparently a surprise, though the event drops should have lasted a couple days after the event allowing some farming once it was known to be there.

Either way, pure speculation on my part.

Oh noes! How dare players get hats!?

Seriously? You're CONCERNED about a snowball effect of allowing people playing a game to get an item with no actual value?

What's the worst thing that could happen by just giving every account free access to all hats? Oh that's right... NOTHING.

People who missed out on Spectercles or the Rudi Mask will obviously wear them and somehow master PvP instantly, or shave ten minutes off the UWSC record, that has to be your worry right? Or maybe you're TERRIFIED of enterprising players cornering the hat market and ramping up the price in ectos? Oh wait, hats are non-tradeable.

I guess I'm just having a tough time seeing what all the consternation is over giving something that doesn't affect gameplay to the people that play the game?
