I'm getting the three remaining Heavy Equipment packs for my characters, while filling their books.

After I make them all Guardians, I'll go Dungeoneering for a while.

I want to come back, but people don't play in groups anymore.

i stopped playing after a couple of months ago, then when hom was announced, i came back to finish getting 30/50. it was fun reliving the experience and having a new goal set for me while playing the game. i also decided to start and finish the guild wars beyond storyline and quests.

after i reached 30 points, i wanted to take a break, and i personally don't see myself playing as much again. i definitely want to come back to play for some events that i never got to attend in the past (april fool's, dragon festival, halloween... been missing a lot haha).

i also don't have a guild or friends in game, so i don't have a desire to come back as i would if i were connected socially to the in game community.

For me, it's mainly the people who are in the same guild which keep me playing. From my perspective I've completed everything in PvE that I wish to do so, hence without them wouldn't really have any incentive to keep logging in anymore.

Mournblade’s oft-stated point about the aesthetics cannot be overstated, imho. We were just scraping Turai’s Procession yesterday and came across the beads hanging from the trees. The positioning and attention to detail in something so simple as beads hanging from trees is characteristic of GW. Those who hurry through the game and focus on the next foe without looking up or down are missing a significant part of the appeal.

The instanced areas, as noted by agrios, are a huge selling point for me as well. I am moving my ele through Cantha now and I can experiment with a Master of Magic build as I do. If I fail, I fail, and nobody is going to be rage-quitting on me. The bad experiences I have had when trying to help other people can leave a lingering taste (“uh, don’t you want the Fragment of Antiquities, not the Remnant?” followed by torrent of verbal abuse).

But to address specifically what keeps me coming back, two things: 1) The seemingly endless learning curve, as noted by Mintha Syl and others. Playing through the game with different professions has been endlessly entertaining. As a mez, I so love shutting down the casters that gave me fits as a warrior. And, yes, I have yet to finish the UW, too, even with a GWAMM and a 50/50 and a 30/50 in the HoM.

And 2) playing with my spouse, as noted by cozyfiep. My wife has so many strengths and sterling qualities that are reflected in her gameplay. We spend so many hours discussing strategies, goals, builds, achievements and failures, and all those shared moments we have built up over the years. I know, Ramseysylph, it might be a tall order to find a spouse just to play GW, but if you have a bf or gf or bff, do try to invest them in the game at the outset. For one thing, it’s very possible you will be spending way, way more time than you can possibly predict at this point enjoying this game, and you might as well be spending that time with that special person than apart from him or her. Plus, it just adds a richness to the game. So set some goals, have fun, and good luck to you.

I envy so much all of you playing with your spouse...my partner bought the game short after me, to play together, but he's not fond of moorpgs and 3d so...I could only get him through pre-searing and with jumping quite some things, before he stopped...and even before stopping he was playing more to make me happy than else, which is sad

50/50 and GWAMM grinding, then i'll be gone for GW2, only coming back to see what new content comes along in GW1, probably an elonian and/or eotn guild wars beyond. New miniatures, tonics, etc.

All I do now is regret not doing PvP first, as those are the only titles I need...

I play mostly because of the friends I've made while playing the game.

Helping some new brand new players fill their HoMs is what got me active again, doing a few more Gwamms in my spare time since I'm playing GW again anyway...

I am new to Guild Wars as well! I recently purchased the Trilogy although it was kinda of an iffy purchase since I wonder how much longer Guild Wars will be around since GW2 is just around the corner. I am a veteran MMO player, cut my teeth on EQ and then Vanilla WoW. It's basically come to the point where I do not have the time investment to justify paying for a sub anymore - ima pretty casual and play at my own pace.

I will not play F2P games with micro-transactions (imagine my horror when I found out that GW2 is going to implement that - especially since I was looking forward to playing that next).

What I like about Guild Wars so far is that it reminds so much of Final Fantasy

I'm hoping that the deal on the trilogy is not a last ditch effort to make some quick cash before they pull the plug as I am looking forward to get deep into this game. At the same time, I hope that a lot of new people like myself will discover this gem and build up a new player base and keep this thing alive for another 5 years!

As for GW2, micro-transactions aside, I prolly make an exception and dish out for the pre-order. My original intentions was to get the hall of monuments perks offered through GW1, so here I be.

Guild Wars won't be shutting down a for a few years so I shouldn't worry and like you I just got the game, there's tons of content that'll keep me going long after GW2 releases and I'll play both, till I get the HOM rewards I want anyway.

Also regarding MT's nothing that gives and advantage I'm sure and that's good enough for me.

- I like replaying campaigns for the story. Aside from the pacing issues, prophecies campaign is the most enjoyable, followed by GWEN, then nightfall, then factions. I still have to experience Beyond content.

- 8 out of ~1000 skills to use at a time mechanic makes sure you are never locked to the same rotation routine. There may be 1 or 2 optimal meta builds to run in PvP/PvE, but there are many more other viable ones.

- Combat is dynamic, especially if you run with henchies - this way you feel like a hero taking on tough monsters knowing that there is only Alesia to back you up, and we all know what Alesia's chances of survival are

- I love mesmers with their abilities to screw anyone and everyone, which provides a very unique feel

- random arenas are a gambling system, where you hope you get a monk in your group, or if you don't, you hope opposite team doesn't have one and has a worse composition.

- alliance battles when they were popular

- exploration and varied environments realized by the art team

- proper way to learn skills - by defeating monsters and capping their elites

Simple... the community. I got everything I wanted gwamm and 50/50 completed all quests and areas I know of in the game. So what is left is the neverending love for the artistic side of the game, the fun events, helping a friend, the now rare new content like beyond and ofc. the community. Sure there are bad people, trolls and such. But now and then you can end up in interesting conversation with people if you stay around long enough

JQ and helping noobs.

Not even rank 1 on the GWAMM and my HoM is half empty after 5+ years of playing but I have always been anti-title and grind wars.

As such just playing whatever PvP still gets numbers enough to play and helping new players which reminds me why I liked this game in the first place.

I returned recently after quite a bit of time off. Giving 50/50 and GWAMM my best shot and I have a plan on how to get there. Whether or not it's realistic is yet to be seen...but I think I have a shot...which is the important part. I probably won't get either before GW2 comes out...but I'll probably continue to try to get there even after it arrives. 40/50 right now and sitting at rank 2 of the GWAMM title track. Basically need 5 weapons, but a bunch of titles to finish off the 50/50.

It's the game I always go back to. I don't have an active guild here..though I am a member of a guild...everyone else quit pretty early and haven't logged in for years (ok one logged in 8 months ago...the rest 5 years +). This has always been a single player game for me. I got used to that though...and it's only gotten better with 7 Heroes. That means I can try taking on things I wouldn't dream of taking on myself with Heroes and Henchmen or even just Henchmen.

I have a huge time investment in this game...and it feels special to me for that. The titles I've grinded out I'm proud of (especially survivor, got it before you could get it with an existing character who had died before)...and I'm continuing to pick up more titles. Each title that I get ads a bit more pride in my character. People won't see what my character has accomplished...and I don't care...as I said...it's a single player game to me.

Even while it's a single player game to me...the community is there. Yeah there are some idiots running about...but a lot of people in the game are great. Sometimes it's just nice to stop what I'm working on and help a noob or chat with people in an outpost.
