This is the PERFECT example of what I mean. It's not about him having, but about others not having. "Working" for this mini pet because he deems it as valuable so everyone else should too.
How many other posters here would be just as happy with one of these high end minis knowing that everyone else would have one too efectively making it worthless? Like the mini pig? Myself, I would be happy. I still have a mini pig too!
It's sad that people turn something nice from Anet like prizes and giveaways into something that means prestige. It will NEVER mean prestige.

My axe is the single rarest item in the game, and has been for years (before, during, and after the kanaxai fad...and, honestly, no Canthan item deserves to be mentioned in the same breath).

I'd say my Bow is as rare as that, might just not look that shiny though.
I mean - one of a kind is one of a kind.
Anyways... do we already know if Panda/IG/Kanaxai can drop as well? I'd love to have a little Panda once again.... would be great if they would get cheaper.

@Kromp: well I obviously was just makin a point that there are some weapons (and not only ur axe) that are even rarer than a kanaxai or even one of a kind and additionaly even of some use compared to Kana. This was not about what is the best or the rarest (would be to much OT anyways). I just wanted to state that rarity alone doesnt make the price of the item, I mean it has a huge effect but there are always other factors. And obviously the difference here between the kanaxai or an item as ur axe wasnt the rarity or the usability of the item (cuz then the axe would have been worth way more) no the dominating factor here was the showing off factor. Its obvious that a kanaxai is a better way to show ur wealth than any rare weapon, at least ingame. Well nothing new here think we all knew that already just wanted to make that point clear again

Req 8 Max Dmg 15% unconditional? It would be tough to argue against the idea that my axe is the one and only (even according to your own list of known unconditionals, 90% of which are customized).

You don't lose the achievement - you have achieved 'getting pet X for Y cash back in Z'. The achievement is still there. People who got their obby sets back when ectos were 20k each made that effort and got a 'harder' achievement than people who crafted their obbies with 4,5k ectos. No one can take the former players' experience, fun or sense of accomplishment. Same as people who got LDoA the old way, or Survivor, or really anything else that was made easier/shorter (like... the whole game?).
More so, you're not actually losing this minipet - you still have it, so any comparisons to a car being stolen are simply stupid. On top of that, it's natural that a car you got 10 years ago for $100k will be worth much much less today.
The only thing that's 'lost' is the level of showing off, flashing one's e-penis all around. If you feel that your e-pen gets smaller if others get comparable e-pens to yours, well, probably you have some issues.

actually all I want is a GREEN mini pet ONCE from a birthday...bone dragon would be just fine for me---I think that most of those asian minis are the uglist things in game and really dont care for them if they were GIVEN to me...
I was just commenting that they probably re-introduced those minis because of the ones that are long gone from the game....there probably are only a few new ones out there and you have as much of a chance of getting one as those peeps who participated in the asian coke whatever 7 years ago---IF you didnt have one of those accounts, then the way you acquired them means NOTHING.....NO ONE cares how much you paid really.

Don't brag too much about your uncondtional r7 tormented scythes of whatever because maybe they will target that next. Which would hurt that market if not ruin it, but no big deal.
It doesn't really matter any more. It's done and so is gw1 for most part.

STILL NO NEW KANAXAI'S? There's gotta be one by now. Duper dude got his and made 8+ ded copies and no action has been taken.

Fear my prestigious random lottery skills!
The overwhelming number of these 'rare' minis were given to players at random, dumb luck at work. Just because you or others paid a fortune for them doesn't change that one bit.
|
Why are you such an ass and overlook the point by jumping to fearing random lottery skills when that was CLEARLY not my point? For example, I bought an IG (Iggy is awesome!) which was not part of a lottery:

I feel bad for the people like this who earned and may have kept their pet, only for it to be the same pet to be randomly generated in a birthday present. That's all I'm saying.

That may be a hard pill to swallow but it's good medicine. And Prestige? Do you honestly think the general playerbase even cares? You can say we like the minis and yeah, you'd be right. But most of us would be just happy to have one as opposed to making sure someone else doesn't. That's what defines a better player.
Selfish greed and the need to be recognized because you WASTED your time getting something that means so little to most other people is your own burden to bear.
|
Don't be a dick. No one is blaming other players for their "wasted" time. Rather, a lot of people are more frustrated with the lack of creativity and effort put into the best part of the birthday event: New presents. Instead all they did was throw out a cluster of drops and double rewards that 90% of us didn't even need for 2 weeks. I really don't care if my mini devalues; it's my favorite regardless (long live monks!).
Oh look!!! Another Lich! How exciting.... =/

Would you have been happier if an oni popped out? I'm not too happy that I'm getting reused minis either (Water Djinn and Charr Shaman) but I move on. I feel that the 7th year minis were a cop out and that something new would be nice. But that's not what's happening here. This has become about people protecting their "investment" (time wasted)
And yeah you're pissed off that the minis you wasted thousands of hours farming for is something that the next guy might just get from a single click. I hope for these asian minis now because the rest of the normal minis I already have. They have no value to me other then I don't have one. I could care less how many there are, I'm just into collecting them. You on the other hand use them as some form of currency or "prestige" as it were. When I say you, I mean the people in this thread who are unhappy with asian minis dropping.
Quit Crying QQ Guild. Seems to suit you extremely well.

Getting that one hard to find centerpiece is the goal of every collector/collection. If you're trying to say that you won't be extra excited if/when you get one of these because of their rarity and therefore perceived value to other collectors you are lying or trolling.

What a hypocrite and jerk lol and so many lies in one paragraph. Why are you collecting them, pokemon? They must have value to you and you do care how many there are cuz that directly affects your chances of getting them. And the sad part is that you want them so badly that you don't care if it messes up other peoples investments, collections, money sinks, whatever... You don't even really appreciate the minis for what they are cuz you don't admit that value has something to do with it. You just wanna collect em all even if that means they are worthless by the time that happens.
So hope all you want, but you don't deserve one and you aren't getting one let alone finishing your worthless pet collection. Deal with it. QQ too bad incomplete mini collection. NO ASIAN MINIS FOR YOUR HOM! Poor baby. Oh it's tragic. OR Better start farming if you want your shot.
You can have the same convo in 7 years when gw2/d3 is broke down and you are playing catch up there to. Only D3 won't be giving away uber items as bday gifts. BUT GW2 might if gw3 is coming and that would be more your style.

Hmm .. well, I received an Oni some years ago from Anet via one of their contests.
I won that ugly little thing fair and square.
I didn't do a damned thing to earn it in game. Not one single hour of my game time had anything to do with acquiring that Oni.
By the main logic at work in this thread I did not deserve to be the original owner of that mini because I did not grind for an eternity to afford it, and unlike at least the 7th year presents it was not a reward for being a loyal, dedicated, and active player over the past 83 months (give or take a few days).
I could have won that mini even if I didn't own the game because the means of acquisition sort of neglected GW ownership altogether. I received the code via email .... I coulda just sat on it & never used it. I bet some "winners" of the draws & giveaways did precisely that.
To those who's "investments" are being devalued: I'm sorry you wasted so much time & money farming for something that I got for a purely ridiculous art contest entry that totally ripped off Mastercard commercials, stank up my house, and was stolen & partially consumed by my cat mid photograph. I spent 10 minutes shopping & 20 minutes in the kitchen & 30 minutes in Photoshop; if you calculate that Oni's worth based on an hourly wage there are sweat shop workers in 3rd world countries who make more than that Oni is worth.
I think it's ridiculous that minipets were ever used as a means of hoarding mass amounts of money, especially considering Anet has shown they can, will, and do consistently give them out at their discretion.
They decided to give them out in 7th year presents. Why do you spend all this time and effort complaining about something that you cannot change?
Why persist in this notion that one must waste copious amounts of time to deserve these minis?
Or that it's unfair for Anet to be giving them out AGAIN because the player base chose to hyper inflate their value?
Really, who ever thought it was a good idea to use something with a damned near UNLIMITED supply as a commodity? Would you like to buy some bottled farts?! Do you REALIZE how downright SILLY that is? Don't compare ecto or arms or any other farmable material, because the same logic applies to those, too. It's just SILLY and BAD economics. It is not Anets fault that you are SILLY and BAD at investing your imaginary money.
I'm not really asking questions in hopes of getting an answer, because I'm not sure that I care what the answer might be. I'm pretty content in the knowledge that I am a far more deserving owner than anyone who's ever farmed their asses off or spent hundreds of hours in trade spam to buy their mini. I'm also quite happy to continue playing this game that I love, and am not the least bit surprised that some people are upset while the majority really don't mind.

Because it's clearly not about the money, it's about the prestige of...
"Each Member of the Top 3 Teams in the Japanese Guild Wars Championship. (8 Members per team x 3 Teams = 24 Miniatures Given)"
Wait, that wasn't you?
"Taiwan Signup to Help New Players during the first two weeks of Nightfall Contest. 50th-99th People to sign up received Island Guardians (50th-99th People = 50 Miniatures Given)"
Not you again? But earned in a prestigious way I note.
"Taiwan Nightfall Title Contest (61 Miniatures Given)"
Did you earn it this way, nope?
"Halloween Art Contest 2007 prizes (10 awarded)"
Feel my prestige!
Nope. It's about the ePeen which comes solely from the price tag. But it's not about the money.

Whats so 'proud' about the majority of them being earned in silly out of game competitions? Nothing really.
Still, feel free to make more of an ass of yourself in this wild QQ scramble to protect your ePeen that most of us don't actually care about.
And, thanks for the laugh.
Oh and... it's not about the money!

Minis and greens and inscribable weapons all serve the same purpose. They were put in as things for people to have when they couldn't have the really good stuff. Because they were so widely accessible, they became the basis for a popular economy, but that didn't change the reality of what they were: a placebo for the masses.
