This thread is so full of person A assuming X and then person B saying that anet are stupid because they implemented X....
If have GW Guru and Wiki open in the background and open the gift with a char with Y in its name I have larger chance of getting a banana in the gift....but if I stand in Embark dancing while opening it i have bigger chance of getting an orange...
This is too much speculation and talk and make believe.
I would like to see a thread called "What did you get from your 7th year present"
and that thread should only contain observations with screens. No wild unsupported theories.

Sorry but there is a reason why teachers tell you not to use Wiki(pedia) pages as official sources to write a paper.. anyone can post anything on there..
The day you start believing everything that is on a Wiki page is the day you lose your critical thinking

This mode of thinking always ticked me off. Yes anyone can edit the wiki. However, what you add to the wiki must be verified through sources or proof. If I wrote Rihanna is a a tranny on her wiki. You can bet it would be taken down with in 5 minutes. So in case you happen to come across some moment of time someone has modified the information and it hasn't been returned to its original state in those few minutes, you are using the best unbiased information out there.
Use the hell out of wiki and then if you need sources for class - make a few up.

Something new and furthermore representing guild wars gods( something important, 7th year celebration is important as well) will be preferred to something players already know and already had i guess ?
I'm not seeing everything in the moon, but it's quite obvious, looking at forums and reactions in game, that this 7th year gift isn't appreciated..

No, it's not. It's obvious that some people are unhappy, and they're posting on forums. Would a full set of new minis have resulted in less disappointment on forums? Probably. But that's not what you said. You said a set of 5 or 6 new minis would've made everybody happy, and that's not obvious at all.

That they once again failed to make a min pet based on paragon is what I don't appreciate.

Here's the problem with that argument: it works great for heavily trafficked items such as Rihanna, but collapses the moment you start talking about a spot that doesn't get a ton of visitors. What's worse is that when you start talking about the concepts that academics care about, the people qualified to review a wiki page's take on something simply don't visit it.
The problem isn't so much bias as the quality of the content. Crowdsourcing is great for applications that are time-intensive and can be carried out by unskilled labor, but becomes bad if you require expertise that only a few people possess.

I got my present and sold it for ectos. As I am officially done with my HoM, what was the point of going for something we don't know exists or not. The problem for me is this: In past years, we knew what all the minis were by the 28th. This year we are going off a quote by Mr. Stumme, and as of yet have no proof that anything new is dropping. The weird part is that people are usually so accommodating with info and also want to brag about what they got. I have sen none of that this year which totally goes against what has gone down in the past. I would rather get the ectos from the gift at this point, than gamble on a mini that may or may not be there and has a crazy low percentage of dropping even if it exists at all.

even if someone got a mini panda, it would be stupid for them to announce it publicly because it would drastically decrease its price.

I agree with you. However, the American education system is poor and will continue to be that way probably forever, so sadly - the "unedumacated" wiki posters' information suffices for most teachers if you document it correctly.

Cause somebody has to write the damn wiki too, and this thread is the primary source of information about the 7th birthday present.
This part:
Quote:
John Stumme has stated that "there are some minis that are not repeats from the presents of previous years - they're just rare
|
Was for instance posted there by me after John posted in this thread.
And we don't know whether or not pandas drop. But we have unconfirmed reports that other asian miniatures such as Oni and Naga drops from the gifts.

I'd appreciate if some of you got down off your high war-horse and just appreciated that given Stummes' comment, its likely that there is at least one rare mini in a birthday gift, which may or may not be a mini vizu. Evidence is guaranteed to be sparse given few players have characters 8 years old, are going to take a screenshot of the correct line, and know to post it here.
Also lol if you think guru is the primary source of info :>

This is a rather important thing to have empirical evidence that says that Mini A does infact drop from this present. Yes the evidence is sparse, but until we have proof that the present does drop these rare minipets and it's not just a guy trolling us, I'm inclined to call shenanigans on a picture with a minipet.
This is the type of thing that can affect the price of extremely rare things, and without confirmation, we shouldn't believe every random person jumping on the bandwagon saying, "Look guys, i got a rare minipet."
If we can accept his proof as true, then I got an entire wintergreen weapon set from my Birthday Present. I have like 100k and 5e in the bank, so obviously i'm not rich enough.

To me.. This Vizu deal is the same as the Panda incident, with only a screenshot of which didn't include the mini being unded or dedicated. With a brief conversation on a wiki talk page.

The only reason were still here speculating is because John Stumme said that there were rarer minis outside the past b-day presents within the 7th presents and didn't shed anymore light on the matter. Everyday that goes by I believe more and more that hes just trolling.

Here's a crazy idea - instead of reselling your presents, as many people do, and then reselling them even further, simply open them. If 100 presents were issued, i'd bet that only ~30 were opened, with others waiting for 'confirmation of new pets' or being sold for ectos; and then the new owners still either wait on them or sell them for a bit more.
