Quick Guide: Legendary Survivor
This aims to be a comprehensive guide on obtaining Legendary Survivor for those going for GWAMM or filling Hall of Monuments. The goal is to provides references and overview for various options for achieving the title, elaborating on hte list of items you can find on the Guildwarswiki page.
Kilroy Stonekin's Punch-Out Extravaganza!
Kilroy Stonekin's Punch-Out Extravaganza! takes place in Fronis Irontoe's Lair and using the Dwarven Brawling mechanic. It is an excellent place to grind out Survivor title safely. You receive all the experience since it's a solo quest and getting knocked out does not count as a death.- Brawling Block: For the next 2 seconds, you block the next attack. This Skill ends if you use an attack Skill. You cannot use this Skill if you are Dazed.
- Brawling Jab: Deal 10 damage if Brawling Jab hits.
- Brawling Straight Right: If this attack hits, it deals 25 damage and interrupts an action.
- Brawling Hook: Target foe takes 30 damage
- Brawling Uppercut: You deliver an uppercut to your foe, dealing 80 damage. This attack cannot be blocked.
- Brawling Headbutt: 30 damage. causes a 3-second knockdown.
- Brawling Combo Punch: (HM only) You attack twice, dealing 50 damage each time.
- STAND UP!: When knocked out, use this Skill repeatedly to regain Energy. You must be at full energy after 10 seconds or else you will pass out!
In Hard Mode, enemies give 700xp instead of 300xp, so you level at double the rate. It also takes double the amount of time. To avoid dieing in Hard Mode, you have to time your skills carefully and move strategically. Even then, you're likely to die due to lag and randomness. You do not receive more experience from the quest reward for doing it in HM. The HM update added extra health to enemies, making HM even more painful and annoying. For the sake of your sanity, ignore Hard Mode unless you are geared for playing as efficiently as possible.
Two combos will kill the Stone Summit in one go:- Brawling Headbutt -> Brawling Hook - >Brawling Straight right (6->4->3)
- Brawling Uppercut
Use these combos on any Stone Summit with full health whenever skills are charged. Spam Brawling Straight Right on recharge and use it to interrupt attacks. Stone Summit tend to open with Power Attack. You can interrupt this and follow up with Brawling Block. Using the minimum number of attacks can shave some time off runs and make them go smoother. Attack the same enemy as Kilroy until a combo is charged, the faster you kill an enemy, the less overall damage you and Kilroy take. Once a combo is charged, you're free to go off on your own. It does depend on play style however. Wait for Stonewolves to use Primal Rage before releasing a combo, they die much faster that way. It may be a good idea to let Kilroy die here so he is full health for Slaughter Passage.
Brawling Block will prevent Lieutenant Mahgma from interrupting your next attack. Use this before Brawling Headbutt to kill him when he activates Dwarven Battle Stance. You can also use the kiting technique detailed in HM section since your Brawling Straight Right will activate faster than his next attack. The easy way to kill him is to pound away until he activates Dwavern Battle Stance, hit Brawling Headbutt, then hit-and-run until the stance wears off. Kilroy makes a good punching bag but will likely die at this point.
It is is nigh impossible to keep the scroll up at the final boss. Even with fully charged attacks, the scroll will wear off a few seconds before you kill the Ettin. In HM, it is possible to kill the Ettin in time because of the extra damage from the Combo attack. The best strategy is to use hit-and-run on the Ettin until you're sure you can kill it before you die. The Ettin hits 97 or more with Power Attack, so block or interrupt it. This is generally around the time Kilroy decides to join you after standing around. You can then knocklock Fronis and beat the shit out of him.- Calculations
- Cost of Berserker Scroll: 800g
- Experience with Berserker scroll: 19516xp
- Duration: 310-380 (~345) seconds + 60 seconds retaking quest
- Experience/hour: 203645xp
- Number of runs: 69 (68.53)
- Total time: 6.6 hours (6.567)
- Total cost: 55,200g
You will receive 250g from the quest and a Dwarven Ale or Aged Dwarven Ale. you will also receive 1-4 Stone Summit Emblems, lockpicks, scrolls from bosses, runes and Insignias from Dwarven Armor, and varying amount of merch fodder. This will more than likely pay for itself.
Vaettir Farm
Vaettir farm is a very popular farm for golds and festive items as well as progressing the Norn title track. It also happens quite useful for progressing the Survivor track. Because it's done in Hard Mode, you have the option to use a Slayer, Berserker, or Lightbringer scroll to receive maximum experience. There are 60 Vaettir total to kill. You can find build articles on PvXwiki at:There are plenty of videos for doing the run on the pages. The same can be done with a Mo/A using the Me/A as a template. The disadvantage is other professions don't have the same energy management and AoE skills that make this viable. You can find a thread for Warrior here.- Calculations
- Cost of Slayer Scroll: 800g
- Experience with Slayer scroll: 42000xp
- Duration: 180-210 (~195) seconds + 20 seconds rezoning
- Experience/hour: 703256xp (703255.813)
- Number of runs: 32 (31.845)
- Total time: 1.9 hours
- Total cost: 25,600g
You will get lockpicks, Mesmer tomes, plenty of golds, and varying amount of merch fodder. This will more than likely pay for itself.
FoW runs
Fissure of Woe gives 100,000xp from completing all the quests. It's also fairly easy to clear with 7 heroes. A general guide would be too large to fit here because there's much to discuss about doing runs efficiently. Do the run in NM, it will save time as the quests gives the same amount of experience in either mode. If you are confident with your setup, HM runs will only take 15-20 minutes longer and provides a nice bonus at the chest. You are at a much higher risk of dieing though. It will generally look as suggested by this post with the provided map. This is my preferred route for FoW:- Do Tower of Courage and grab The Wailing Lord quest.
- Head east and travel to Battlefield for The Eternal Forgemaster and Army of Darkness.
- Do Army of Darkness
- Go over to the forge and do The Eternal Forgemaster
- Follow this with Defend the Temple of War
- Head south and grab The Hunt. Kill the nearby Shard Wolf and do Restore the Temple of War.
- Kill the beach Shard Wolf just north after finishing the quest and head back.
- Khobay the Betrayer can be done on the way there or the way back.
- Do Tower of Strength, "Fall Back!" will reduce some rage on waiting for the slow NPC.
- Kill the nearby Shard Wolf at the tower.
- Head north to do Slaves of Menzies. Following the right wall will let you avoid many of the enemies.
- Kill the Shard Wolf here on the way back.
- Head west from here, you can go back around through the Temple of War to avoid some groups.
- Kill the Shard Wolf located on the Battlefield.
- Head to the Wailing Forest to do The Wailing Lord.
- I kill the Shard Wolf here by kill the enemies on the ledge, using Necrotic Traversal to jump up and pull the Shard Wolf to heroes, then use one of the spider spawns to jump back down.
- Complete the quest and grab A Gift of Griffons.
- Inexperienced players can clear the groups beforehand. A fast and relatively safe technique is to stand back with the griffons and flag your heroes over to kill the Undead groups.
- Kill the final Shard Wolf.
- Calculations
- Duration: 65-75 minutes (90-120 minutes for new players)
- Experience per run: ~115000xp
- Experience/hour: 98571xp (98571.428)
- Number of runs: 12 (11.630)
- Total time: 13.6 hours (13.5688)
You will get around 1-4 Obsidian Shard drops during the run and another from the chest. Doing FoW in HM will give extra drops, including a FoW scroll to do the run again.
Skill Hunter
An excellent synergy for the Survivor title for players that are getting Skill Hunter for GWAMM (or possibly HoM) is Legendary Skill Hunter.- Calculations
- Cost of Signet of Capture: 1000g
- Experience with Signet of Capture: 5000xp
- Skills needed: 268 (267.5)
- Total cost: 268000g
There are 290 elite skills to capture. If you've already captured a few, you'll have to make the rest up from another source. The total time depends mostly on how much of the map your character has explored. A player who has completed all the campaigns won't have much trouble getting to the bosses. Keep in mind skill hunter also has synergy with vanquishing and cartographer. There are a few elite skills that are time-consuming and dangerous such as Caretaker's Charge that you want to avoid. Do research on each elite skill and figure out the closest and most accessible boss to capture the skill from. From my experience, bosses will never take more than 5-8 minutes to get to unless it's a mission or special case. As you are doing Skill Hunter, you won't be wasting any time. This will take 20 hours or more for players that don't have all the outposts available or slow to reach bosses.
Gate of Madness AFK Farm
This method is similar to Glint's Challenge, where you let the heroes do all the work for you. It involves repeatedly killing Titan groups that spawn from the portals near the end of Gate of Madness. There is a PvXwiki here and the the guru thread along with Daesu's post. Tlam also has a great, improved version of the setup with a video here, which also links to an appropriate page on PvXwiki for more information. This is more appropriate for players who have access to the third mesmer (excluding Razah) as players can find getting the build to work for more than 5 minute troublesome. the method also requires a high Lightbringer rank, not necessarily max, to improve reliability and speed up the farm.- Calculations
- Cost of Berserker scroll: 800g
- Duration: 4 hours 48 minutes (Tlam's method)
- Experience/hour: 278645xp (278645.83)
- Total cost: still 800g
Auspicious Beginnings
Auspicious Beginnings is a quest in the Hearts of the North quest line where you play as Keiran. In this quest, running past enemies is faster than killing them because quest provides 5,000xp as a reward. This is one of the few farms where consumables will pay for themselves, as the quest also rewards 1000g and 5 War Supplies. There a couple threads available, the best would be this one. There is also an excellent video tutorial on Youtube.- Calculations
- Duration: 330-360 seconds
- Experience per run: ~6300xp
- Experience/hour: ~37565xp
- Total runs: ~213 (212.3)
- Total time: 35.6 hours
- Total profit: 212,000 gold, 1060 War Supplies, 266250 Ebon Vanguard points
This provides an excellent way to take care of Oppressor weapons, Ebon Vanguard title track, and Survivor while making a tidy profit to put towards the rest of your progress.
Other methods
There are many other methods the are detailed the Guildwarswiki, so I'll go over the few important ones:- Hammer of Kathandrax
- Notes: No risk but expensive and obtaining enough hammers can be difficult.
- Cost of Hammer of Kathandraz: 5000g
- Hammers needed: 179 (178.33)
- Total cost: 895000g

Another easy and very safe (though not as fast) way of getting the survivor title is to repeatedly do all the quests in FoW (normal or hard mode). With a good 7 hero team setup you can do all the quests without much chance of dying. It'll take around 10 runs through (without scrolls) to get the title, and you get obsidian shards and an end chest as well.

For Skill Hunter you might want to synergize with Double XP on elite captures, that will bring it down to 134 Skill Captures, and you can work on the rest later.

When i did fow first time with 7h discord i managed to complete it without dying in nm - me being a person who avoids fow usually and never done the quests before managed it and tho it took 4 hrs ( few breaks and taking things very careful ) i enjoyed it. So i could say i was able as a FoW noob to do it fairly easy - it can be done.
The real easy way to get leg survivor is only done at halloween and doing the skeleton farms - getting enough crystals to store the skeles then handing in on survivor chr - got my sin survivor easily.
Ok halloweens a while away but i believe details may be on guru still .
Ps - one major thing you have to consider with most other ways ( raptors/vaetires etc ) if you see any signs of lag beware as most survivor attempts are lost via lag . Sometimes it can seem gw is against you as pre survivor update i can recall lvling up a rit ( wasnt bothered about survivor ) - one point i ran into a mob in brawling and all seemed fine untill ... 1 sec i was standing and next i was dead on floor , no countdown , no sign of lag.But in local it seemed i wasnt the only victim as several ppl were annoyed at the unseen lagspike that caught us all.

Which is why, when you're out with H&H, you never go out of range of your team, not for pulling, not for getting quest rewards, never.

I still need to get some numbers for farming Auspicious Beginnings, that mission may not be the most suggestible as the groups are generated randomly and that can get you killed easily if a group consists of the spirit spammer, healer, and melee. Just added fow to the list, I could write an essay for rechniques on clearing FoW. The halloween method is only available for a short period every year and not even usable by new players or players who want the title within a week.

Hence why he was mentioning raptors/vaetires etc and brawl. Its also why listing a H/H technique for getting survivor is important. Someone can investigate mqsc/dtsc heroway, because i won't be testing that.

Combining it with skill hunter would be the most efficient and least boring.
Farming that solo dungeon thing with bonus xp scrolls would be the fastest.
You're welcome
