Since this'll never happen, I put to you the hypothetical question, Why would you pay to play GW1 when you can play GW2 for free?
|
Because GW2 mechanics are awful.
Their whole selling point was a mmo revolution in which you're free to play what you like and can get back into to fight once downed. What they failed to account for is the fact that there are people that actually enjoy playing support classes. Also, I'd much rather have a monk prot+heal to save me from getting one-shotted than having to respawn at a waypoint and run back only to get one-shotted again.
Furthermore:
GW1 storyline > GW2 storyline
No magic find > Magic find

But in GW1 you don't get the warm, fuzzy pleasure of paying to respawn then paying to repair your armour because a Krait spawned on your head out of thin air.

Stop trollin'; it did not appear out of thin air.
It appeared exactly 10 seconds after you've killed it. If that's not revolution, I don't know what is.

I ma with you on this the bolded parts as I don't play GW2 and I can't afford it as well as no Monks. You can't feel free to play what you like from GW1 the core game.

Guild Wars was created with PvP as the endgame.
Allow new players to download Guild Wars and play PvP for free.
Require people to pay for the campaigns if they wish to play PvE or unlock the high-end tiers of weapon skins for PvP.
Done.

Is there really nothing left to discuss about Guild Wars that we have to maintain this bitter air over GW2 on the GW forums?

because gw2 is bad
because gw1 has such good pvp that even years of anet being bad couldn't ruin it

Ye, Though we have disagreed over things many times, the GW2 vs GW1 war is getting ridiculious imo.
I personally loved both GW1 and GW2. I will never forget my first MMO-love and will be playing from time to time, or atleast I was planning on it. The disrespectfull way some of my fellow GW1 lovers are talking bout my new love and making it look like there is a war going on makes me really sad.
You don't have to hate GW2. I don't hate GW1, but please understand that there are people who love both games....
Lets start sharing our love for GW1 again instead of this crappy my game is better. I love GW2 and I love GW1, but an important part of the game is the people playing it. The dissing of some people both here as in the game bout my original love makes me seriously doubt the last bit. Maybe it is time to keep my first love as a good memory and move on cause she is changing into a jealous Diva imo....
(btw, you don't have to cheer bout GW2, but just ignore her if you don't like it out of respect for the people who you have played with you so many years in DoA, UW, the daily zaishen quests, etc, etc, etc.)

I have to wonder if GW1 hasn't seen more sales because of GW2. Either from pure curiosity or all the people who talk about GW1 being far better than GW2.
Keep in mind that PvE-wise most of us only sit at the high end areas while new players will spend dozens of hours doing lower stuff. People leaving is very quick to be noticed, but people starting out will only slowly trickle in everywhere across the game world. But Anet is making money off new players while old players hanging around aren't getting them much, so they could in fact be making more money off GW1 than before GW2 came out.

Bad idea, that, thankfully, will never happen. ArenaNet is dedicated to the "Buy-to-Play" business plan. If they had been going to try out something different, it would have been with GW2.

They could of done what most MMO type games are doing and that is free to download and make an account. There would be microtransaction from the online store if you wanted some of the good stuff.

No...
Thanks, but no thanks.. It was the fact they had a large, full-time staff on the game after release that screwed it up in the first place. Only after they left for GW2 and we got the current 2-3 member staff did they start reversing some of the unpopular trends and nerfs did a lot of people start coming back to play..
I'd prefer to keep it like it is with a few level-headed people running GW1 with the occasional small content update. If anything, maybe allocate resources for some paid content but NOT have the people that created/developed that content work on the game afterwards. There's nothing worse than people getting upset and nerfing the game because someone is playing 'their baby' in a manner they didn't imagine.
caveat: There are no numbers or empirical evidence to back this up so just consider it candy for a unicorn.. There, now THAT doesn't need to be said again unless you really didn't read the whole post..

They don't need to add a sub fee, just more expansions and some microtransactions after that. I would buy them all, and already have... I got every bonus mission and costume etc.
