Default Canthan new year 2013

looks like they got the info on the new year up on their site:

http://www.guildwars.com/events/ingame/canthannewyear/

and if you check, it looks like they are also going to give you a chance to get more of the celestials (Celestial Miniature Token) hope its just the old ones and not the new ones as that would probably mean they have totally given up on guildwars.

event runs from January 31st until February 7th...

as a new twist as well (they say that different rewards are going to be given out for roller beetle racing), there is currently a glitch that makes some of your animal compainions into roller beetles!!

No new celestial miniatures mentioned this time, which makes me think they'll simply resort to tokens to get previously released ones and be done with it.

Special Rewards

In addition to the items mentioned above, lucky players may find a rare Celestial miniature hidden inside a Lunar Fortune! Carry the divine beast's luck with you throughout the year! If luck is not on your side, Ikura will stick around Shing Jea Monastery until noon Pacific (-8 GMT) on February 14th. She will gladly accept 100 Lunar Tokens in exchange for a Celestial Miniature Token.

doesnt sound like it to me...sounds more like a way to get the old celestials that people may have missed out on (like that dang pig!)

I must have overlooked this. What exactly does it say?

To me this sounds like a new mini. Why put the old ones with the old mechanics? Would have made much more sense just having the exchange mechanics if they were gonna give old ones...like they did with hats.

According to the Chinese zodiac calender it says a celestial snake for 2013. It also says this on the guild wars wiki under festival event miniatures.

I honestly don't see any reason for Anet to avoid adding the new celestials to the game considering they've been ingame for quite awhile now. Plus you can see all of the celestials on the Guild Wars CNY 2013 Announcement page.

I would imagine that the tokens are for people who never got a chance to get older items for whatever reason. In this case it's probably the minis.

Edit: I read this on the wiki

So I would guess that solves that question.

I have a feeling that not as many people will be doing it---for a couple of reasons, (I am in doubt as of the 'reward' this year). Would be nice to actually get a few more gamer points though....

dont worry, beetle race and rings are open, enough people who like those

and yea, i think they give that new mini anyway, cuz they most likely had it ingame (unreleased) already, AND the models already exist (look at the celestial summoning stone)

plus they said they give a rare mini through fortunes, as stated on the site

so, lunar fortune farm time, once its here (by having older lunar tokens and getting more with both accounts, plus they sometimes drop from enemies)

not worried they wont be open, just wont be the same lists of people as used to be especially if there is no mini greased lightning being given away --so the peeps who have been hoarding them for the last bunch of years can be assured their 'investment' is safe. (though would be nice if anet made them available some other way.....hint hint anet).

I am still hoping for the celestial piggie (I GAVE all my reg piggies away right before new years for the rat ....so I didnt have enough left to get me a celestial....)

The prizes are more or less secondary at this point. They're just a means of keeping score. What ANet has never seemed to understand is that extending the duration of the event simply gives the really hardcore players more and more time to overcome the luck factors and lock the casuals out of the top 100.

I'm betting the usual suspects will all be around.
