It's a good excuse to be bad at "words", though.

I'm a bit of a noob seller, so that could be why people try to constantly rip me off, but..... I was in Spamdan lastnight, trying to sell this Q7/16 shield. This guy PM me & haggeled the price for about 5 mins, then when we went to trade, this happened.
1st he put his offer in correctly, but cancelled the trade...
Then he offers me an inscription & says that I have to put it on the shield so he can see it's really inscripted. Of course I knew straight away, at that point, that he was trouble but proceeded with the conversation with this thread in mind.
I indulged and accepted his inscription, used a superior salvage kit to remove & keep mine(as his intention was to devalue my shield), installed his, opened trade window...and POOF...he vanished.
I knew this was going to happen, kept my inscription & remodded the shield ~ no harm no foul. But it is a lesson for other not-so-wary traders out there. His request was the stupidest thing I have ever heard of ingame so far.
P.S. He is the White writting...

*edit* OK on it now.
**edit** It ain't no picaso, but it should stop any infractions.

Someone tried to lie and say my friend stole his cash in her service thread, i posted proof otherwise, didn't bother editing his name out, and i got an infraction, so yeah, you pretty much do have to change that.

That's much smarter that taking, say..... Poison Tip Signet for example.
I love this thread.

If there were no attributes, it could be an emergency 'get the mobs to spread away from healers' kinda thing, but... ouch. <_<

Well, if you want to get into that, we're discussing chats in-game, i.e., 'heard in-game', and builds are pinged through the chat, so we also 'hear' them.

It might be the jargon. After you spend some time buying or selling, you start using the specific language and players who don't will stick out. It's entirely possible there's people who try to prey on such "trade newbs".
Anyway, with such scammers it's best to simply drop the trade window and move away instantly. Believe me, they get the message. And once or twice when they really did want the item I've had them come back with the correct price and no more shenanigans.
In this particular case the excuse didn't even hold water; you can see clearly whether an item has an inscription slot or not. And your use of a superior kit was risky (did you mean perfect kit?) because there was a 50% chance you could have destroyed the shield.
And to get back on topic, this q8 business touches on another brand of stupidity (or cunning, it's hard to tell): buyers who argue that the item is basically worthless because the mods are missing or are bad. Now, correct me if I'm mistaken, but the value of such an item is in the base spec ie. the fact it's max at q8, and in the inherent mod. Extra mods (suffix/prefix/inscription) are nice to have from the start, granted, but they can be added, and the cost of the extras is only a fraction of the value of the item. It's silly to complain that an item worth 100k is missing 5k worth of mods, and devious to pretend that it's "worthless" because of it.

Probably not the stupidest thing I heard but it gave me a good laugh while trading in Kamadan.
Not going to say the specifics so I don't directly call out the trader.
WTS XXX shield c/o far too much
I think to myself that shield looks familiar to me.
I look around on guru for about 1 min and find the same seller with c/o of 150e less updated less than 10 min before.
Gotta love fake C/O
