Default GW1 future - events, skill updates?

Hey all,

there is a similar thread in this forum section but that has turned to Gw2 vs Gw1 battle. What i am more concerned is, are there still going to happen events like Canthan New Year, Wintersday, Halloween, Christmas celebration.. Will there be new skill updates and minipet updates? Or will Gw1 will turn to a dead game, where all Anet's attention will be focused on the sequel? Thoughts, opinions?

Well, GW1 still has a team which is still the same as before GW2 (not too long).
So the support/updates should be the same as before as long as Anet doesnt move the teams

Updates seem uncertain. There seems to be little to no attention being paid to GW1 as shown with multiple gold spammers in GToB, GvG rating imbalance, GvG trims not kicking in yet...just to name a few.

I expect the holiday events will still happen, but for skill updates etc I doubt it.

As things start getting to normal Mr. Stumme and crew will get back to GW1 and we will get the reg. ele skill update with some minor tweaks to the elites and the Ranger and Para changes. That will at least take place. IDK if we will get a Nightfall type release akin to WoC and WiK though.

They probably have it done already, now theyre just waiting for a good moment to release the new Unrest in Istan quest line but its good to hear that there is an actual team still working on GW1 and the game is not going down the drain so easily. what about you all? what do you think what is going to happen with the players in the game? will they get less and less, or retain their numbers? What will happen with the weapons and the market? Will i get a chance to see someone wielding a Crystalline sword? Damn, im speaking of gw1 as of a dead game should stop this..

Crystalline?! You've never seen one?

They are hardly rare. Hell, the only reason they have some resemblance of value is due to them dropping from HoH chest. If they were a regular drop their value would be minimal. Same goes for any 'rare' item I suppose though.

Ecto is fairly steady at 6k. Seen some fool spamming wtb ecto @ 4k/each yesterday. Most are trying to buy for 5k then selling for 6k.

Sapphires&rubies seem pretty steady at 14k/each, but not many buyers.

Zkeys seem pretty stable at 6k. Got a handful at 5k/each yesterday, but only small amounts from people just looking for a easy sell.

Unid can be got for 7/4k if you look around.

the events will still happen (halloween, wintersday) since they are supposedly 'automated'
no new minipets--with the exception of the canthan new year one since we know they have all the celestial guys done (summoning stones)--since the bdays are now repeats.

skill updates??? think it will be quite some time before you see these as the bugs in gw2 are still huge and numerous. (and there has been no announcement that the live team has returned yet---). Remember anet is a wee bit on the slow side with doing these kind of things (how long did the dervish update take???)....so dont hold your breath.

source? I woulda thought that they'd re-use the asura, destroyer, gray giant, ceratadon and grawl.

This is where you will all realise GW2 was just a charity box to continue development on Guild Wars. As you may have noticed, GW2 is much more consumer-friendly, aimed to please all. It's essentially a MOBA, MMO, Minecraft and TPS rolled into one (sorry magic fans, this game isn't for you). There was a reason for this: Make money for Guild Wars development. I expect now they can afford more staff, GW will recieve the attention it deserves and has deserved in the past.

Am I over-analysing this or did Anet sell out?

That statement is actually steeped in sarcasm Although I do wish it were true.

You, fine ol' chap, win my internetz for today, and tomorrow, and whole next month!

~Also You may have forgotten to toss in RTS and RPG/COORPG genres in there to stir things up a bit too.

(As much as it's glowing with truthfully-sarcastic radiance, it's sad to think that it would be unlikely to happen )

Anet will probably roll out the final version of each event, allowing players to earn rewards from past years, before stopping development. In the case of CNY they may do that as well, just let players pick from the celestials (old or new).

Skill and content updates are much less certain I think. I am hopeful that they will at least finish up and release whatever they had in the pipeline, but it would be a very welcome surprise if they continued development past that. I'd assume that at some point the monthly flux will begin rotation as well.

It's harder to say what they are going to do with bday gifts... it's entirely possible that all gifts will be like the 7th gifts from now on, but that would seem to devalue purple minis. Although at this stage, who cares.

and yes, purple minis are not worth more than white ones--has been that way since they introduced the HoM since they get NO points (outside of what white ones do) for putting them in.

I do believe that the events will continue on since they only will allow you ONE past hat (might change that I know), so it might be a few years before they stop those.

They are still worth more in terms of rarity and price, at least when comparing minis of the same year. If future gifts are the same as 7th, though, I think eventually some of the whites will cost more than the purples, and that will be a strange situation. Maybe they will also implement some kind of "choose a mini" system for subsequent bdays.

There is one mildly alarming thing that I hope gets rectified, and that is access to FoW and UW. Favor of the gods is next to nonexistant due to there being far fewer players maxing out titles. As a result of this, there are no FoW/UW scrolls available at the scroll trader(as of last night anyway), since that is the only way to get in. I am fortunate, I just returned to the game after a long layoff and I found an ample supply of both scrolls in my inventory, but what about newer players who havent experienced these areas yet?

Simple, they can buy a scroll off other players.

@above posters
The scroll trader is not the only one who sells them though. You might wanna check this guy.
I think the reason we have the chance to get passage scrolls with zcoins is exactly to dodge a situation like the current one, when there's not enough revenue from players.

For the topic in general...I can't wait to hear whether/when the live team will be riassigned and what the future plans are if any.
