1 good thing from GWguru onto GW2guru, would be that many would see stuff from GW1, may make em play GW1
..... lets hope for that to happen, i'd love to see more GW2 people try and stay in GW1
ps. "stay in GW1" doesnt mean leaving GW2.... not always, although i did see that happen in GW1
heck, maybe anet would see the activity...... and not change stuff badly, cuz this isnt GW2
although i do trust john stumme a lot (the one responsible for 7 hero teams and some other stuff)

Things will never be how they were. Not 11 years ago, not 5 years ago, not even last year. The community is different. Trying to pigeon hole them into one site or another isn't good for anyone.
Curse decided to shut this forum down. They didn't ask us, they told us. I'd love for you all to move over to GW2G. Remember the people that made this site? Inde, Billiard, Ensign, JR, Racthoh, Avarre? They made that one too. The people still making this site great are going to be there too.
Why do you feel the need to have another forum? Curse dictates a lot of what we do, but not everything - so what do you want to be different? Please contact me directly and let me know. I can't control advertising (Curse has to make money or we don't exist, end of discussion) but I can make changes. Please, PM me here or on the other forum, or email me directly at [email protected].
I've worked here for 9 years. Please know that I'm just an invested as you are.

As a player, I think GW2 has nothing in common with GW1 except the name. This game was a huge disappointment, all the more considering that they did not even respected their own manifesto.
I have played to GW2 for more than 2 years because I was working as a staff on one of the biggest French community website.
I was part of the Alpha testers, I've been in direct contact with their community manager regularly.
And they treated us like shit. As players and as community website staff. Not like we expected to have a special treatment. They talked down to us on a regular basis. We have received threats for publishing content that was publicly available and my contacts from the others community website to. And that's just the tip of the iceberg...
The way the GW2 staff view the playerbase is very different from the way the GW1 staff did (in case you didn't knew it's not the same people).
I resigned at my staff position on the GW2 section, uninstalled the game and went back to GW1.
I will not in any way be associated with GW2. I'd rather stop going to any forum then going to a GW2 forum.
And I am afraid there is no dedication in the world that will be able to change that.

Best post in this thread. Well done Kattar.
I was going to say a big part that could get lost is the Guide threads, but I see Marty is doing a great job at moving those over.
Guess I'll see you on the other side. Thanks everyone for this forum, the Admins and Mods past and present and the users too for making it the #1 and great community for a great game.

The game is way more active now than it was this time last year. Everyday we have returning players. I do things all day everyday in game, last year it was way less frequent, and not because I wasn't playing.

I think its more than people feel the need to have A forum, for us for this game not slapped into another game nobody likes or wants. GW2 is not Guild Wars, why would we go there?
I told people the GW1 section was up on GW2Guru yesterday, and they came back to me and said...where? Because its so insignificant.

I'm sorry for this rant but this is all getting childish.
I disagree. It's not a need. People need to be a little less butthurt about this idea. What if guild wars legacy disappears one day too? Anything can disappear. But people here are so damn butthurt for some dumb reason about the gw2 forum idea. Why? What's a con about it other than it's part of a guild wars 2 forum? And don't say 'color scheme'... Fact is that it's much easier to find online than guild wars legacy for a returning player. If guild wars guru goes down, where's the next logical place to check? Guild wars 2 guru. No one is gonna magically think, I'll go check guild wars... Legacy.
People need to toughen up. There are pros and cons to each. Instead of crying about curse the community should come to a logical conclusion. If I was dictator for life it would be to use both forums.
That being said, if everyone goes or legacy, I'll go too. Because I'm not gonna get butthurt over something so trivial in life as to where a forum is. I'll probably use both forums.
If this is everyone's biggest problem in life, consider yourself lucky haha.
Feel free to flame me now. But just trying to add some perspective. I think guild wars 2 guru should be given a chance.

Really. You'd rather throw away a perfectly good guild wars section on a guild wars 2 forum than NOTHING at all? That's a pretty foolish solution/answer.

I did not tell anyone to not do the merging if they feel like it.
I simply explained why I would not follow.

There are a few issues here for me.
1. Guildwarsguru is an integral part of my game. Without it I will be unable to play the game the way I want. I check the traders section several times an hour, because that is what keeps my interest. I have a very deeply invested interest in the traders section, and without the full functionality as it currently exists, there would be no way to maintain my interest. Losing the history, knowledge, pictures, quotes, screenshots, and personalities would be terminal to my enjoyment. So far, retaining all of the posts throughout the entire forum has been ruled out.
It is the knowledge contained within the forums that make it so special. Unless the entire forum is migrated across, with full functionality as it currently exists, it will be the end of trading, collecting, and the entire community associated with these hobbies. The inevitable loss of the Ventari section's trade experts which will follow if this section is not exactly replicated will result in wholesale economic chaos. A new forum is at least an attempt to preserve as much of this knowledge (globally across every aspect of playing) as possible. The impact of losing this knowledge and history will be catastrophic to the community. Maps. Guides. Builds. Team setups. Title hunting. Price checking. Weapons. Game mechanics. And community. All gone. The full forum in its entirety must be preserved if this is to remain. You are ripping The heart out of how the game works.
2. We have not been given a reason for the closure. That sends a wholly negative message about how Curse values its users. It is interesting that since the new forum has gone live, Curse has clearly noticed, and (voluntarily or not) an employee has posted in this thread, and another has deleted a thread of mine promoting the alternative forum. Afraid of losing Internet traffic and therefore the chance to sell adverts?
It's not too much to expect an explanation.
3. Nobody asked the users of guildwarsguru what they thought about this, and nobody asked if anything should be saved. It feels as if we have surprised you with our reaction. Well if you'd bothered to ask, we probably wouldn't be in this position.
4. Many people feel terribly let down by gw2 and the way it was approached. Being cro-barred into the forum site of the game many hate is insulting and lazy. The community is (as you can largely see) very unhappy about this.
---------------------
Personally, it will devastate my gaming experience if Guildwarsguru is shut down, and only a tiny fragment is preserved at the gw2 site. And no, I wasn't intending to be so vocal, but the effect this will have on my experience (and that of my fellow collectors) will be catastrophic. No consideration seems to have been given to the impact of shutting it down.
Leave Guildwarsguru alone as it currently stands. It is the single most valuable resource we have, and giving us a corner of gw2guru isn't good enough.

Those are fair reasons certainly. I'm not at all saying there no legitimate reasons. But reasons such as a 'color scheme' is pretty foolish. I believe that was stated here. I'm gonna give them a little more time to get the explanation. It seems like it was a surprise to a lot of people in the know.
------------------
I've already posted in multiple places that I'm going to try to preserve the knowledge. And I believe I have the computer know how to save a lot of it. I've already saved 5 threads with 300+ pages of posts to my hard drive by ripping the HTML. These were the 5 threads that I most wanted. That amounted to 50MB of HTML code. I'm happy to fill my 32GB flash drive with guru pages. But...
TELL ME WHAT KNOWLEDGE (THREAD URLS) YOU WANT ME TO SAVE AND I WILL ADD THEM TO RIPPING CODE.
My goal is exactly what you are worried about but no one seems to want to help. Saving the knowledge. So everyone (not pointing this at Max - general statement) help me do it instead of telling people it's a goal. I have a plan - it may not be perfect, but it's the only one I've heard that seems feasible. All I need the URL of the thread you want to save. If no one tells me and no one comes up with a better plan, the knowledge is gone. But at least I have a plan.
Later we can decide how to make the information available again. But at least a copy will be saved!! Then we decide how to make it available. I don't knoe if the best way is through a drop box, or on legacy or gw2guru, or a different website with only these files.
So far only cosy has asked me to save any thread - the armor dye thread. And it will be added to my code when I'm home later.
As I said, if the community decides to all to to legacy, I go too. If it's split, I'll be split. If it's all to gw2guru, I'll go there. Wherever I go I wanna be the forum historian .

You already know me well enough to know which threads I'd ask for. In fact I bet those are the ones you've already grabbed.
With all due respect to Marty however, the info he moved into the chestrunners thread on gw2guru is pitiful. That's not the chest runners thread, it's a tiny fragment of it. If that's what they consider saving threads, we're buggered.
----------
Also, the legacy team is currently looking at ways of preserving everything, but given my computer skills, I don't know anywhere near enough to comment...

And yeah I have an idea of course :P. But I want the urls. I'm gonna save a bunch of the traders and the chest runner. But no way in hell get everything without being reminded.
If someone wants to try coasts idea, feel free to let me know how it goes. I'm gonna continue with my method. No harm in having a few different trials.

To clarify, I never meant for those two quotes to represent the quality of our backups. Some threads, like profession guides, are self contained in the op and can be transferred relatively easily. Other threads, like chestrunners, can't really be done justice without moving the whole thing across. Those quotes were just two things I had saved already. I knew that when the announcement was made there would be a variety of ideas and opinions on what direction the community wanted to take as well as the know how to make it happen. There's still plenty of things up in the air, namely whether Curse will manage to make some kind of backup and what we'll be able to do with it if anything. If there's a good way to move threads verbatim from here to Guru2/Legacy I'll help how I can. I'm/we're not "them" - we want to preserve this stuff as much as you do.
PS: I've made an account on Legacy. If people are interested in having me continue to be a staff member over there I'd be happy to.
