Stay away from the FX5200. I understand that the poster above me says it runs the game fine, and I am not calling him a liar, but it is a horrible card and has trouble playing many many games. You will notice a huge difference by spending just a little bit more cash, instead of buying the FX5200. Also, I am not sure if the other posters before me covered this, but make sure you have an AGP slot on your motherboard before you go out and spend the big bucks on an AGP card. Some companies like Dell and Hewlett Packard will ship PCs without AGP slots, even some of their "high-end" ones. And last but not least, I have had my 9800Pro running for well over a year (got it when they just got out) and it has never given me any problems. Oh! And I second www.newegg.com. I have done a load of business with them, for both personal and business use and they are by far the best place to buy parts, period!

This is true, but the big problem with it is the 'SLI' part, which means you have to run TWO identical 6800 Ultra cards in tandem.
I don't know about you, but my budget just will not handle the strain . . .

NOT many people can afford that. $1000 just to have the best for 10 months.
And on top of that their currently is no CPU that can process the info fast enough. So you would need to be running a duel AMD soulution with duel cards. BIG MONEY.

This may be true about spending extra money, but I'm currently running 1 128 MB 5200, and 1 256 MB 5200 in two of my computers and haven't had trouble in any games (of course I play older titles like BF1942 and Vietnam, Rise of Nation, AoM, EE)..... but I would disagree with them being bad cards... their an excellent value 256MB 5200 for 71 dollars? Heck Ya. I'm more into audio than video.... but I do admit being guilty of recently purchasing a Radeon 9800 Pro on the recommendations of friends and so far haven't tested it's limitations.

The 9800Pro will blow you away if you find the FX5200 acceptable. And the 256MB of RAM on the FX5200? A marketing gimmick. That card will see minimal performance increase, if any, by bumping it up to 256MB RAM.

That is such a sweet card. I have 2. 256 meg ddr ram makes the card slow to do mem dumps it only helps on really high video settings. Which that card can't handle. So you are actually slowing down your FPS.

Yes and they use DDRIII for that card and I think it is total over kill.
The only reason to make that card is to score higher on 3D2005 and MAYBE a 1-5% increase in FPS. Not enough to warrant the extra money.

The only game on the market right now, that I know of, that can take advantage of 512MB of video RAM is Doom 3 set the the highest setting it can go. Basically, it uses completely uncompressed textures and takes up a ton of space.

Yes but ATI cards do not score now as high as Nvidia cards so the extra would only get you to par with their cards. Just like Nvidia cards do not do as well with this game as ATI.

That is very true. It's a pitty that game makers are siding with one graphics card company over another.

Overall the ATI cards are better just like Overall AMD cpu's are better than Intel.
The big differences will be seen once Microsoft releases the Windows 64 edition. Because they worked heavily with AMD this time instead of Intel.
And then Ati and AMD will truly shine. But still be the underdogs.

Indeed, though I wonder about this SLI. I think that SLI 6800 is better then ati's best card. But ATI has the best single cards on the market.

The Nvidia 6600GT is the best card for the money, going for a little less than $200 and out-performing tons of cards. The next best card from either manufacturer is nearly $100 more.

when looking at graphics cards, its not always a good idea to base them only on brand, go by specs, and the price. When you have a problem with a card, it could be the drivers, or simply a problem with the individual card, not the brand. In todays market, Id say nVidia takes the lead by quality and price. I use a 6800 GT, and not much is better for the money. But if Anet is infact working with ATI, im sure that Anet made GW more ATI compatible.

you sure you didnt had any problems with geforce 6800gt(256mb ddr3) in guildwars?
i also have geforce 6800gt and gig of ram, but i have 2 problems which i posted in previous thread....which i reported to AreanNet.
what is manufacturer of your card? and what driver were you using?
mine is from bfg, and my driver was forceware 71.84
if driver was different, it makes sense(that it is driver problem)...but if we were using same driver....
and yes...i notice that image with nvidia card(6800gt) looks more luxurious.

Nvidia vs ATI Lines... w/ brief history :P
N 4000 > ATI 8000 - Nvidia held the crown for $/Performance
N 5000 < ATI 9000 - Then ATI took it back with the last gen line of cards (On shelves now with REBATES )
N 6000 > ATI X000 - Now Nvidia barely nudges out ATI in $/Performance
The first card I ever bought was an ATI, the second and third were Nvidia. I buy cards that give me the best performance for what I am willing to spend, and now I have a 6800GT, and it pwns... I mean, it performs very well.

nvidia has 512mb ddr3 too
but i personally think there is no need to buy a card with 512mb memory.
first...it would be expansive. (i think one of expansive parts in video card is memory chips)
second...they have pci-express technology...which has more memory bandwidth. someday, i think video card will take advantage of this feature and use RAM memories(on your motherboard) to save cost of the card.
