SIN, no, any SE card, no matter what company is bad. Its better to get the XT or PRO of the last generation then a SE or LE or etc of the current.
256 ram is ENOUGH but you will want 512 once you start playing.

SE with radeon cuts it in half bandwidth wise.
nVidia actually adds to the card to make it special, like when a new type of ram is available or some new fan or heatsink design and they are between designs. Seriously I thought the same thing you did till I started looking at the specs. Their SE cards are actually better then their original numbers. It surprised me too.

Lol sin...thanks for the recommendation. What I do is research the prices at the time I want to purchase, which generally means www.pricewatch.com (the great thing about pricewatch is that it forces vendors to compete). When you're on pricewatch though, there are two main things to look at:
What is the seller's rating? (Look for one with a good number of positive responses)
Check if the item is what you actually want. It may be a lesser or version because the search is not completely exact, i.e. LE versions of video cards or rejected RAM (which can be just fine, but it's like the new celery *cough* celeron processors which are mostly just throwaway P4's.)
---
Unless you're picky about having a good looking box and a full paper manual, OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer, which means that normally it would be shipped to a company that premakes computers) can sometimes be the way to go. You will most likely recieve OEM products in blank boxes with .PDF manuals because if you buy a computer at a store, you don't expect to get the fancy boxes from the store along with that computer. Beware, though: OEM is sometimes used as a synonym for the above mentioned rejected products, so look at the fine print.
---
The last purchase I made was at a local retailer though. It cost me a little more than on Pricewatch, but I got the safety of an easy return policy and the satisfaction of getting your parts right there at purchase.
The place I got my last upgrades was Computer Stop, which only has 2 locations, one in north Seattle and one in Bellevue [both WA for those who don't know]. They have online sales, too, which are a little cheaper than in-store prices before S&H. www.computerstop.com

A video card and ram are both very easy to install. As they can only go in one way. It would be very hard for you to make a mistake.

Annoying, i know
Sorry to add more ignorance to the conversation, but how well will a PNY - Verto GeForce4 MX 4000 Graphics Card with 64MB DDR SDRAM work with a PIII 800 mhz 384 RAM? My card now won't work, the client is laggy, but will this card help at all?
