Server Side Lag the cause of most woes
My system is an Amd64 with 2gig of ram, ati rad 9800 pro and verizon DSL, I know my system is running perfectly, connection speed isn't the problem so when I started getting crazy lag, I run onionsofts 3D mark first to check graphics card (get a free older version) then I check my online connection by doing a free online connection test (use google to search for the nearest one to your location) turns out, i'm correct my system 'is' running perfectly, I tested my online connection by playing HL2 deathmatch, perfect and I logged onto EQ2 perfect so why isn't GW perfect?? I'll tell you why!
I read a lot of posts here, people saying they freeze up etc....and people claim, ohhh its drivers or something else, well it isn't. The latency of the guild war servers is so bad at peak times (4pm to 11pm est) and pretty much all day on weekends that the game is literally 'grinding' to a halt. When online games freeze, to the point you can't move or warp around, just use mouselook to look around, if thats fine then its almost certainly server side lag, and gw is breaking all records for it.
Essential, for me its purely impossible to play GW at peak times simply because even getting into the login screen is a joke, then if/when that happens and select my character and join the city I was last in, walk a few paces, 'freeze' for anything up to 2 minutes during the lag spike I realised that these problems were very similar to what Diablo 2 was like on release, I know because I played it online for nearly 3 years from launch, the first few months of D2 was very harsh, dropped games, lag deaths, server connection problems.....sound familar? The cause what lack of servers to cope with player load, simply enough too many players logging in at anyone time. It took blizzard months to set up extra servers for Koreans, and Europeans to have there own private servers, unfortuntely GW doesn't have that...yet, if ever.
I'm hoping for some fixes soon, gw is a great game with plenty of potential
