Random Restart Issues (A new thread)
So as one of the original posters in the Restart problems (exclusive to GW) thread, I'm pretty pissed.
Here's my problem. The game restarts my computer randomly while Guild Wars is running. It could be 5 seconds after I load the game up (it's happened as I was putting my password in) or I could play for an hour before it happens (very rare; average time is anywhere from 2-10 minutes).
I have tried (at the request of Tech Support):
Cleared and updated all drivers (mobo, graphics, sound)
Made sure nothing was running in the background
Unplugged any excess devices drawing power from the PMU
Sent them DxDiag and Everest system information
Set the game to the lowest resolution and turned off all graphic options
Tried the "take off the case and point a room fan at the GPU"
Defragged my HD more times than I care to admit
I have sent them screenshots of Motherboard Monitor running as GW runs in a window so they could see that my CPU wasn't getting too hot, nor was my PMU doing anything too straining.
Things I've tried after people on this and other forums have suggested it:
Turning off the sound using the -nosound option (and completely uninstalling my sound driver, even though it's onboard)
Disabled any second monitors (don't use one anyway, but I'm to the point where I'll try anything)
Tried removing one stick of RAM. Then tried the other one. Then tried them both in the other slot.
Probably some other things that also had no effect (desperate times...)
I just spent two hours reformatting my gaming rig. Upon reinstalling Windows, I installed SP2, the newest ATi drivers, my sound drivers and GW. Ten minutes in, reboots my computer.
Until 4 days ago (when I sent the screenshots), Tech Support was very helpful and responsive. I received quick replies at 3 in the morning on more than one occasion. But apparently my screenshots offended them or something because since then I haven't heard from them AT ALL. Not one email. I've sent them three emails in the span so the NCSoft support system doesn't close my case, because my problem very clearly isn't solved.
Now, here's the reason I'm pissed. In all the emails I've exchanged with Tech Support, after all I've done, nobody there will even admit that there might be a problem with the game client. They've yet to tell me, "Well, we acknowledge there might be a bug in our game, and we're having people look into it." Do you have any idea who much better just hearing that would make me feel? Instead they're pointing fingers at my machine when I know many other people with very different systems have the same problem.
I've had these problems since BEFORE day 1. It all started in the final BWE. So now I've spent $70 on a collector's edition game that I can't play, nor can I return it or resell it and Tech Support won't even gratify my efforts with the acknowledgment that the problem isn't with my computer!
This is not very good customer service, guys.
Edit: Feel free to suggest more wacky things that I can do to a computer that not only runs other games perfectly but runs GW perfectly, when it runs.

Probably just bad luck. I suppose whether Tech Support classifies it as a game bug is determined by how widespread the problem is.
I know my following statement isn't really helpful but I myself have had absolutely zero problems with this game except for maybe my guild cape getting discoloured for a bit one time after playing continuously for 8 hours or so. It disappeared as soon as I stepped into another zone. Running all graphics options at max at 1280x960.
Ok, another problem I had initally was the slow downloading of files whenever I zoned even though I'm using cable. This was because I bought the game online and did not install using the CD. As soon I got hold of the CD, I uninstalled and reinstalled using the CD and now everything's perfect.
Speaking from someone who did not participate in any Guild Wars' beta testing, this game has to be one of the most glitch-free rpgs I have played. Compared to Bioware's crappy game engines, the difference is like between day and night.
If you love the game, suggest you keep searching and experimenting to find a solution for your problem.
Good Luck.
