You'd have to read how to in your router's manual. Look it up online. Each one is different.
Also on a Netgear Router, as mentioned, under the port forwarding, you need to delete the settings under "Starcraft" that goes to the same ports that GW uses.

Err=7
Hey guys. I did a system scan and I found some infections that really slowed my internet down. Now that I deleted them, I find my internet is working a lot better. I'll get back to you guys on how my GW is. If it still isn't working, then I give up. It has to be a technical bug of ArenaNet.

Just probley a character creation error.
I have a feeling when you are making the character, and your connection is a little sluggish, it might curropt the data that is being sent to Areanet which is causing the problems.

I wonder if there are not several causes that will kick out an err=7. If so that's pretty retarded from a troubleshooting standpoint. Good news on those that got this fixed.

There are several err=7 responses.
Overclocking is one of them.
Athlon 64 1.8 GHz at 2.7 GHz does it. They gotta fix that...

I only do computers, I tried an old ATI 9200 128 card and had some problems getting a burned smell out of my room for a couple of weeks... Its more of a "I'm bored, lets play with this." type of hobby. I have a couple of motherboards I'm playing around with (for the last couple of years) on and off.

Overclocking will not be supported by Guild Wars, so if you want to play it, use the normal settings. Also, as has been mentioned previously GW uses the following ports TCP 6112 is the primary, backup is 80. If your router or ISP blocks these ports they must be opened for GW to work.

I know you don't "support" it, but it ran fine all the way until my PC itself became unstable.
That's the mark of a good game.

It Works!
Yay! It works now that I don't have any infections screwing up my connection. But now it is really laggy. Should changing to a less crowded district help? Thanks again!

I think the Err=7 message is just a generic "you lost connection to the server" message. I have problems with my DSL losing connection, which irks me to no end, and it's caused this same error to come up in GW.

Try scanning your computer for any kinds of infections.

If it still happens after you do the port forward then Guild Wars has a bug in the network code. I have seen these same symptoms happen in many many MMOs and online games and it has always been a firewall misconfiguration or game bug.

Well I've been emailing GW tech for a week now over this err=7 issue, it happens to me only occationally and with any of my four characters, my computer specs are good and up todate with all drivers etc.
I did a Pathping & Dxdiag report at the request of GW tech and one thing for sure as far as I'm concerned is the problem is not on my end.
I've tried playing with and without my router's connected, I've also got two routers one of which is a new D-Link wireless and I get the same err no matter which router is connected or none at all.
It's not a huge problem, although I admit being ousted from the game in the middle or near completion of a mission is a pain, I just let it slide and get back into the game.
I've noticed one thing though and that is it seems to occure when ever it feels like, I can be playing the game intensively and or doing nothing at all but eating and watching my character on the screen then all of the sudden I'm at the logon screen with that err=7.
I don't believe it's anything to do with my side of the game, it's something going on at GW's end.
Also to me it's not unusual to get disconnected from a MMO online, over the many years it's happened playing every online game I've played, sometimes worse than others.
If GW can figure it out then great, if not well I'm not going to let it spoil the fun, GW is the greatest since sliced bread as far as I'm concerned.
