I had the same issue with my nVidia 6800 and all you need to do is turn down the anistrophic filtering (or even turn it off) and set your graphics output to medium. Although this sounds like you're cheating yourself (or even your GPU) out of the graphical wonder of the game, you're not. Visually I could barely tell the difference. In my humble opinion, I fear that the current release of the game's graphics engine is somewhat shoddy. Ever since I followed the steps above, I've had no problems.

It should be in the game settings or in your card settings. To get to the video card settings for XP, go to Control Pannel, Display, Settings, Advanced, and it will be in there somewere.

Alright my Problem has been solved. There are 3 things that I done.
First I got a new power supply, now running 480W. I suggest getting a new one, or a more powerful one if you have not, above 400w.
Second I checked my ram, I have dual channel and I had one stick not in a dual channel slot. Stupid I know.
Finally I updated my bios. Go to your mobo website and download an installer for a bios update. Your mobo cd should have one on it as well. Disable your firewall when you run it, dunno why but Norton decided to not let it work until I disabled it. Also, if you do update you bios, when you restart you may have an error prior to boot up. This says something is wrong and I can't remeber the name of it but it needs to be "flashed". Basically look up this thing on your mobo and all you have to do is change a jumper. The reason this happens is that the newer bios will mess up your time and date settings and there is confusion. It is a quick solution, just look in your mobo book to see what to do.
If you computer was manufactured from someone you could call their tech about the issue, mine is custom so I had to do it myself.
Hope this solves your problem. Again, odds are, it's your power supply. You can get one that works fine off newegg for 20 bucks and it takes like 5 minutes to change.
