I had a similar problem, and it was due to memory timing. I had tweaked the timings for better performance, and eveything else worked fine, except GW. Raising the command rate delay fixed it.

I know there is a thread somewhere here that has that problem listed. I can't remember if there was a solution... Search for it if you can. I'll see if I can find it buried away

Sounds like memory/processor.
If drivers are up to date, and you're technically inclined you could relax memory timings. Or check to see if you're overheating.

I've been having the exact same problem. I have an AMD Athlon XP 3000+ cpu, MSI Nvidia 6600 gt, and 2 x 512mb OCZ System sticks.
Sometimes my game crashes and asks if' I want to send a report to Arenanet, which I do, and other times it just crashes. I've been emailing back and forth arenanet about 20 times now and we still haven't found the solution, though I think my video card may be overheating?
As Kitar said it may be a problem with memory, in which case...how do you 'relax memory timings'? My game crashes frequently since December BWE and I've been trying to solve the problem ever since.

The game causes your computer to rise about 1 degree celsius every min your playing do the math, 100 mins = over 100 degree celsuis which is the boiling point. Your computer shuts down before that happens to protect itself.
How to fix the problem? Well you could do what i did lastnight and open up the CPU and blast a fan twords it. Guess what? I played for a few hours with no crash, infact i left the game the normal way for the first time ever!

Why is it the word pointless comes to mind when I just read the last 10 posts?
Attelim, I hate to say it, but it would be much easier to suggest installing more fans into a persons computer instead of putting a giant fan next to it. I'm not sure if people want to hear 10x "Yea, just point a fan at it, that fixes it."
Something a little more viable would be nice.
Thanks.
