My original card ATI Radeon 9600XT worked fine for about 1.1/2 hrs and then would slow down and eventually freeze. I just rebooted and all was fine for another 1.1/2 hrs. The recomended card from this forum was a XFX 6600GT 128 (or equivalent). I installed the 6600GT in a new comp I built up..AMD 2800, 1 gig ram, Abit Guru mb, 500W ps, Win XP pro. When I logged onto GW I got a black screen from anywhere from 10 to 30 seconds later...comp was dead..I tried several times. So I took the card out and put it into my old comp (Win 98, everthing else the same as new comp) that had the Radeon card..same problem..black screen. I then uploaded the latest drivers and now I have a blue screen instead !
This is driving me nuts.
HELP IS BADLY NEEDED...

UPDATE...the latest drivers from XFXforce.com are NOT the latest drivers..
CD drivers 66.81
XFX drivers from site 66.94 (can't believe manufacturer would have outdated drivers on site).
NVidia drivers 71.84 !!
Althought the NVidia drivers still did not work with Win 98, they did for Win XP..so I will put the old Radeon card back in my old Win98 comp and use it as backup comp if needed.
I hope this is the end of the saga.

Are you sure you uninstalled the old drivers before installing the new ones for the 6600GT? You could be unlucky and have a busted graphics card as well.

Make sure any power line attached to your motherboard or graphics card has nothing else attached to it. I have seen a lot of people having problems because they attach fans and stuff to the same line they have connected to either mobo or card and they aren't getting the proper power to those components because of it.

Now about the fans and other accessories connected to the same line as the graphics card, I actually had never heard of that before. Guess I'll have to try removing all of the crap from that line (I think I have a fan and a HDD on that line). The new PSU I'm getting has its own fan connectors anyway.

some of the cards requiring a separate molex power feed can share without harm (providing it is a good power supply) and most of those will include a power splitter cable as part of the package

my 6600 GT is rather light on being a power hog and can share but i gave it a dedicated line just to play safe

any of them that have two (2) molex plugs REQUIRE a dedicated feed to EACH of them and you cant use one power line feed with a splitter

it will state very clearly what is required and also what is ok but not the best to do

It seems as though the system does not have enough power to handle heavy workloads or The Air Flow volume is inadequate for the ammount of heat output coming from all the devices.
