Ember Light Performance Issues (64bit???)
Hi, I have an athlon 64 3000 running the 64 bit version of windows xp (I know, I know, it's unsupported) and haven't had any performance issues until I reached Ember Light Path.
I was achieving approximately 30 fps the whole game with full detail on and anti aliasing at 4x. Now that I am in ember light path I get around 10 fps, and 2-3 fps while fighting and I get no performance increase when I set the detail to the lowest settings. I cannot continue playing this way. Anyone else have problems with Ember Light Path? When I move to any other location besides the fire island the game runs fine.
Can anyone think of any technology used at ember light path that's not used anywhere else? Anyone else have issues with Ember Light Path?

What graphics card are you using and which driver version? If you look back through these forums, faulty drivers is by far the most common cause of any graphics and graphics-related performance issues.

I use the 71.84 drivers myself with a 6600GT, so I know that those drivers are fine. However, I do not use the 64bit version of Windows XP, so I don't know how they reacto it. You should try rolling back to a lesser version just to be sure, though, as it's the #1 issue on these forums.
1.) Download and install the driver cleaner from www.guru3d.com
2.) Uninstall Nvidia drivers through add/remove programs in control panel.
3.) Run the driver cleaner, make sure it gets rid of everything.
4.) Download and install these drivers.
5.) Let us know if you still have the problem.

Going back to the 32bit version of Windows XP sounds like a good idea. Try installing those drivers though, it might help even on 64bit.

Pushbacker update: I got windows 32 bit installed along with the newest display drivers from nvidia. I'm so excited right now cause it runs better then I've ever seen it.
Your friends and forums may tell you "Oh yeah it works great on win xp 64, no problems! they just SAY that it's an unsupported OS", they obviously haven't got to Ember Light Path.

Glad to hear you've got it fixed. Honestly, I giggle every time someone says they're using Windows XP 64bit Edition, once they try running a lot of games they see the light.
I think for most people it's a status symbol, so they can say "I'm running Windows XP 64bit Edition, so nyer." but they don't understand that it's incomplete and unstable, lol.

Yeah, I was surprised you were only getting 30fps most of the time with that card. Glad you're back to gaming.
