Default Freesing issues, alot of AMD processor users?

This information is outdated. Do not use.
If you need assistance please start a new thread.

Now this could have nothing to do with the problem at all, i just saw that nearly all the users that have freezing issues with the game use a AMD processor. Dont get me wrong, but that is strange.

probably more to do with the number of overclockers who are getting freezes....

AMD Athlon XP 3200+ ... freezing quite a bit.. I get maybe 5 mins of play time.
Mine's overclocked by 400mhz though.. that might be the prob.. but somehow I doubt it since it ran perfectly... before the June 8th update.

AMD Athlon 2100+ running at 2.1Ghz/400Mhz (normal speed is 1.7Ghz/266Mhz).

I've never had a crash or freeze with this game.

I am curious so see if the freezing is due to either overclocking or improper cooling, ie Heat Sync fan not working properly (not just not working but working below the RPM's that it should), the Heat sync and fan are so cluttered in dust that it looks like a grey christmas in there, or improper case air flow again due to clogging the vents with dust (I am amazed at the number of machines I get in that are encrusted in dust. Its as if folks are blind to the fact that they have about 6 inch of grey crap hanging all over their machine) or the machine itself is in poorly venillated area. GW's is a graphic intensive app so it may be the first time any of these issues arise. I have 1 machine with an AMD (an old one at that, 900 mhz) that doesn't have a freezing issue so I don't think its the AMD processor itself but hey what do I know?

Well, I can tell you that I do take care of my machine. I have filters on my intakes (god knows I need to clean those soon), and I keep my heatsink clean as well. I'm using a Thermalright SP-97 (MASSIVE heatsink, sweet as all shit). Proc temps under load never go above 107 F.

This coupled with an Nforce2 based motherboard, 3 sticks of ram totalling 1Gb (2 matched, one a 512 of the same brand).

I can also say that there are just some combinations of hardware that will REFUSE to work based on my experiences. I dealt with the Infinite Loop error back in the day on many systems I worked on (I'm in tech support/repair). Not everything will work together 100% and no drivers or tweaking will help that.

AMD64 3000+ OC'd on an Asus A8V Deluxe MB and a Volcano 7 Heatsink....no freezes due to anything other than graphic lag since I refuse to run the game any lower than 1600x1200

If you knew what you were talking about, you definately wouldn't have said this. I'm overclocked without a single problem, as are most of my friends. Read up before you post nonsense like that.

Athlon 2400+ and XP here also.

Personally, I think there are any number of things wrong when playing this game, and for some reason it appears to have brought them to the surface.

This could be anything from Heat, CPU, PSU to drivers and software running on the PC that has some sort of error, even spyware and viruses could be causing a problem.

I have several pieces of old kit lying around and I'm going to test it all out soon. It's all AMD too with various cards, so will be interesting to see how this game performs on these systems once I get it up and running. Stay tuned.

No crashes normally BUT when it was unusually hot a few days ago, and the sun was shining on the case, the computer reset. I've seen the overheat protection of the AMD cpu before, while overclocking, and this was exactly the same.

I think it might be quite a lot of truth in that people with heat problems, e.g. due to overclocking, get crashes - this game is as stressful to the system as they come.
