I had this problem with later catalyst drivers too, but there is a solution that works (although it will make things slightly slower I think).

ok, Click Start, Rightclick My Computer and click Manage.
Then go down to Device Manager.
In the device manager, select System Devices and then Right click "Via Cpu to AGP 2.0/3.0 controller" and then select "update driver".

Select No to windows update if it appears, then install from a list or specfic location.

Select "Don't search" and then change the driver to "VIA CPU to AGP controller".

You'll have to restart and it might be slower, but it should stop the crashing and at least you can then use up to date drivers.

I believe that the problem is actually a power problem, so if you can update your power supply.

What Problem? And who are you talking to with your post?

I have a new x800xl agp and an asus a8v motherboard(which is a via kt800pro chipset), and I have no problems, but I'm not sure what your problem was so I cannot comment

I have ATI and VIA and I simply cannot get the system to crash. It's too stable.

What OS are you using Zeroed and what are the full specs for your machine?

Your post makes little sense, all your doing is removing agp 2.0/3.0 driver and reverting back to standard agp, This was a problem oringinally with Via chipsets and graphic cards, where the via version of the agp driver was known to cause a few problems, what should be done is "dont install the agp driver from via(say for example), and use the standard windows agp drive", but this has been corrected now, so there's no need...

Also if your convinced its a PSU problem, why go to this length, why not invest in a new PSU...

EDIT - I am also using the current 5'6 catalyst's and there is no problem for me...

I was just trying to be helpful actually and I was aware of what I was doing; this just helped me and thought it might be worth other people trying if they're still having problems.

I am also using the latest via all-in-one drivers - it still gives me the infinite loop problem.
