Default Laptop Question

Hey all,

Was thinking about getting a laptop, but I wanted to ensure that I would be able to run Guild Wars on it with very nice settings.

The specific laptop I am looking at, or rather at this point had purchased for me with out my prior knowledge, was the Compaq Presario R4012US.

What are your thoughts. Will I need to upgrade pieces of it?

Thank you.

You do know they named the dog indy? [shameless Indiana Jones reference]

Anyways if your computer/laptop was built in probably the last 24 months you should be more then fine. Just make sure that your drivers are good to go.

Yes I know, but I have loved Indiana Jones since I was a little kid. Basically the series is my favorite of all time and eventually because of it my nickname became Indy. My online name became IndyCC (indy with my initials). Since someone beat me in createing a character name of Indiana Jones, I had to go Lord Indiana. The turkeys also beat me to Diana the Huntress so my ranger is Huntress Diana with a wolf pet naturally, lol.

As I said the notebook was a gift. I have been wanting one but could never afford one. So my options were, uh, limited to one. I just got it last night but didnt have time to set up Guild Wars

Specs are as follows

• AMD 64 3200+ 2.0Ghz
• 512 MB DDR PC2700 Expandable up to 2GB
• 80GB (4200 RPM)
• Dual Layer, Multi-Format DVD Writer
• 15.4” Brightview (glossy) Screen
• 6-in-1 Card Reader
• ATI Radeon 200m- 128MB (shared)
• Lithium Ion battery
• 1.9” Thick
• 7.9 Pounds

The giver of the gift says he has a spare 512 memory stick for notebooks. So that should hit 1gig of ram by sunday. The video card is a Radeon with 128 MBso I dont feel terribly threatened to use Guild Wars on it but any upgrades would be my dime. But, the shared aspect is a little unnerving, but as I am new to the world of notebooks, my understanding is that all mobile video cards are shared.

Don't think all mobile video cards are shared - I know that there are companies that make laptops with actual swappable video cards out there - try Alienware, maybe high-end Dell stuff.

Everything I've ever read about the ATI 200m was positive. So, I'm guessing you should be okay.

You should be fine, I'm running it on a IBM ThinkPad with much lower video card specs and 512mb, works great.

It works great, even at max graphics settings which is fantastic. It works even better than my desktop which isn't on max setting running 1gig of RAM and a GeForce 5200 Fx. I can see, for this game, that the 5200 continues to be an issue but I dont know if it really is worth upgrading my desktop now that I got this, hehe.
