I downloaded a temperature monitoring program and I noticed this temperature rise as well. It goes from a normal 54 up to 74 and beyond until it reboots/BSODs. I have an "Asrock Sis 964" motherboard, if that helps. What program are you using to make this log? I will get it and make a log if it is any use!

I read somewhere (manual or in this forum) that after you are "inactive" for a while, the game initiates a series of CPU tests (algorithyms). Not sure why though, possibly as a method of determining if your account is still active (online).

Funny how i don't have any problems here... i bet you guys simply use a standard cooler that comes with your CPU.
Temperatures:
Motherboard 26 °C (79 °F)
CPU 47 °C (117 °F)
GPU 48 °C (118 °F)
GPU Ambient 51 °C (124 °F)
Cooling Fans:
CPU 3792 RPM
Voltage Values:
CPU Core 1.79 V
+3.3 V 3.33 V
+5 V 4.89 V
+12 V 12.48 V
-12 V -12.40 V
-5 V -4.70 V

Phantium, not a lot of people who buy games have the knowledge that more fans or new custom fans offer far better support to motherboard cooling. So its more then likely and obvious yes, most people who are having the problems with cooling and the BSOD / crash issues won't have extra fans if they suspect the computer they paid a lot for should work without that extra equipment.
I'll be taking a temp measure of my board when I get home as well. I have a rear fan and a side fan that is blowing directly from the chip out the vent though a tube to keep it from overheating.

Hmmm...I'm glad I'm using an MSI + AMD64 Winchester core. The core requires .1v less than the previous (2.5v) so that it runs about 10 degrees C cooler than yours, Phantium, on a stock fan. I do say that the stock fans can be somewhat lackluster though. In the end I only hit about 45 degrees C in GW.
About cooling, though...what happens if you take the cover off of your case? If that helps a lot, then you might want to see how many fans you can stick in your case, because it might just not be able to breathe.

Just to note, when looking at CPU heat, it is a trivial conclusion that the CPU temperature will increase. Going from normal Windows usage to gaming puts a lot more load on the CPU, and thus a lot more heat.
You may be falling into a logic trap - just because A happens [crashes] when B happens [CPU heats up] does not mean B is causing A.

Well, this is an AMD Athlon XP 2000+.
So the temperature is more then fine, and i'm actually running GW!
Btw, MSI = junk. I dare you get more then about 3 days uptime with it... ROFL
My Specs,
Motherboard: Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe
CPU: AMD Athlon XP 2000+
Memory: 1024 MB
Videocard: HERCULES 3D PROPHET 9800 XT Classic 256MB

There actually should be a support page (somewhere out there) that will list critical shut off point. Hmm... Something to look up later.

Well, in my case, GW makes it heat up a lot more than any other games, such as HL2 and Doom 3. Whether it is connected I don't know, but I figure that if we state any little bit of info we can it will all help.

Interesting observation.
I have an Asus A7N8X Deluxe 2.0 Mobo with an AMD AthlonXP 3200+ and have had a few bizarre occurences while playing the game -- crashes during the log-in/character creation screens and one graphical issue that caused the screen to go red for about 30 seconds.
I've checked the temp (using Asus Probe and Everest) after each of these occurrences and found things to be pretty much normal (my machine idles at ~37C with 43-45C during gaming). Next time I play, I'll run the CPU temp logger in Asus Probe to see if my results match yours.

Sounds like you need a better videocard cooler, i use http://www.arctic-cooling.com/vga2.php?idx=11 for my videocard.

I don't understand why I should, just for one game, if everything else runs 10 degrees cooler. To me, that points to a flaw in GW itself.

I have the same exact problem. The thing is before the very last BWE i didnt have this problem so its something they implemented recently... mine gets up to 80C then the pain starts.. this cant be good for my mother board. Basicly their is nothing more i can do fan wise except go water cooling... it just delays the inevitable. Oh and yes i have an asus motherboard and a geforce 6800 gt.
I have been in contact with ncsoft but they didn't help much just told me to put more fans on and contact my computer vendor..

Just for comparision purposes, doom 3 and half-life 2 when running in demo mode, Doom 3 comes first followed by half-life 2, but the games still run atleast 9 C lower then guildwars. Which i think there is something seriously wrong here.

How are you testing this stuff? I have a ECS motherboard with a VIA chipset on it and I am having the same problems. I dusted everything out, and bought a new video card (my old one was overheating) and I still get the lockups.
Here is something weird I have noticed though - if I leave all the video settings at the lowest, it will freeze up but not restart. If I set the video settings to the recommended (and it runs smooth) and still leave post-processing and anti-aisling off my comp restarts.
What voltage settings should I have? I have an intel p4 1.7 ghz...

lol...My previous mobo was also MSI, and I had it for 2 years. (No, it didn't die, and I'm about to use it in another computer). I have to say that it ran fine, and so has this one.

Posting in this thread to confirm that my problems as well were caused by temp. problems. I didn't know how to record the temperature of the card, so, on a hunch, I opened up my case, set a giant area fan (ghetto, i know) in front of it, turned it on full blast, then turned on guild wars. While it didn't run flawlessly (Even on lowest settings, sigh) it was definately playable.
I really wish they'd release a patch for this. GW is the only game that makes my video card behave this way.
