That makes sense...I will try to monitor when this is actually occurring. Thanks for that bit of useful information.

IMO all 3D games, that try to run at the HIGHEST framerate have to consume 100% CPU power.
If it does not it's because you've told it NOT to do so (restricted framerate, application minimized to the tray and others I can't think of now).

your skype question will now not go un awnsered; Skype does grab some CPU its always on; highest codec's; its almost like it isnt compressing the data...
anyhow yes skype does use a lil bit of your CPU, maybe because mine is onboard sound? ill have to check into that... anyhow if you got onboard sound you bet any type of musical app will take CPU usage.

I will do a test lowering settings to lowest and check on CPU usage...I undestand what you mean though. I used Guild Wars to detect best settings...most of which it maxed out. Did not think anything of it at the time. I will check this out and let everyone know how it works.
I am running Viao - 2.67 P4/768MB RAM/Nvidia G4 5500/Sound Blaster 5.1 audio
I don't mind a slight slight degredation of graphics if it will lessen the stress on my system...I don't want to have to get a new computer.

Once you hit a number of frames the game was designed to run at, it won't try to go any higher. I mean seriously, having more fps than you do hertz on your screen is 100% genuine pointless.
Oh, and yeah, your computer sounds like you should be able to easily run it at low detail settings.

Just got a chance to test it, me cpu is running at 100% but windows is responding correctly. I have GW (window mode open), firefox and Azureus Bittorrent running at the same time and it all works fine.
Amd Athlon 64 3400+ (754pin), 1gb ram, Nvidia GeforceFX 5700 Ultra.

That should be running medium-high settings. My old P4 1.6 with 768 Ram and a 9550 ran it at medium-high on 1024x768.
Seriously, maxed CPU usage really doesn't stress the computer as much as you might think.

Lol you do know when gaming that 4GB can actually perform worse than say 2GB or 1GB?

Not when I have a zillion windows open....which is what I like to do. Anyways....soon games will need 2GB min to run right. Look at CIV4...the only reason I can play this dumb game is because I have 2Gb now.

4GB will slow down gameplay performance because of the 1GB modules, better to have 1GB or 2GB both in dual channel.

I am in dual channel...soon to be 4x1Gb dual channel!
My friend that does enormous security work and has to emulate many different OS's on his Dim 9100 upgraded to 3Gb. He went from a sluggesh 3Ghz dual core to a fast one. He can have as many as 5 different OS's running at the same time.

My CPU is at or near 100% too while playing, and I avoid running any unnecessary process in the background. About 2 weeks ago, the pc started to randomly reboot while playing GW. Rather annoying, not so much the first time (crashes do happen sometimes) but the frequency got worse. I was trying the Althea's Ashes quest and the whole system would reboot each time after the first groups of charr outside Piken
Then one time it rebooted and I noticed in the text flying by that the CPU temperature was insanely high. I mean, I'm not a hardware specialist, but this was obviously not good Our fans were working well. We did some research on the net, bought a can of air under pressure (forgot the name of that stuff for the moment) and carefully cleaned out the whole system. You wouldn't believe the amount of dust that came out After this, the game still uses 100% but it hasn't rebooted anymore and temperatures have gone down. We'll still get an extra CPU cooler though, just to make sure the pc will be OK in the long run.
I guess my point is that it seems common for the game to use 100% on some systems, and that it's not necessarily a problem as long as you don't have cooling issues What it still does though, is sometimes while playing GW (maybe once or twice a day) freeze everything and produce a heavy creaking sound (maybe because the game music is frozen also?). This will stay for about 20-30 seconds and then everything turns back to normal and we can carry on playing. Does this sound familiar to anyone? Is it still a bit of a cooling/CPU issue?

Yeah I'm on 256Mb memory aswell, but not for long...
somehow memory sticks keep getting "misplaced" and so have my keys(front door/car/locks)...
but other things need to be paid off before buy'n memory I dont need just for the full enjoyment of the game(I really want to enjoy the game at max settings, on a widescreen LCD monitor...)
BUT its christmas season again...

It sure does look real spiffy in widescreen...I am at my friends house now...his Dim 9100 and the Dell 24" widescreen is darn sweet looking. I wish I had my camera with me, I would take a pic and load it in the See Who ya Play thread. He has like 6 computers on his home network. I am currantly in the garage having a smoke on the "old" 3Ghz with a 21" Fish Eye monitor. lol
We have had many of fun times playing games on his systems over the years.
