Does Guild Wars MAX OUT your CPU?
If so...post here.
Does anyone know why and how to cut down on CPU Usage?

Yes, it does mine as well.
I would go to your system processes and end any process that aren't absolutely necessary (e.g. real player and quicktime are good examples). That will at least free up a little space.

That would probably explain that ugly popping noise I get when I use GW and iTunes in tandem.
I figured that GW was soaking up all my CPU, but I didn't think it was all that bad =/

The reason I was asking was just to make sure that it was normal...and it was not due to a background process on my system.

Actually it doesn't max out mine. I have 1GB RAM and an AMD 64 4000+, soon to be 4800 X2
But yeah it could be my processor not having this issue, I dunno.

I had this problem when I was running my AMD Athlon XP 2800( I think) with a 128mb Geforce FX 5700, and a gig of DDR266 ram. Since then I have updated to a AMD Athlon XP 3200, 1.5 gig of DDR266 ram, and a 256mb Geforce Fx 6800GT. I also tried a different processor before I upgraded ram, and video card. Even with just the 3200 processor I Guild Wars would take 100% processor use. Also sometimes it would restart my machine, as if it was reaching thermal threshold.

Every game does it, no matter what game and no matter what CPU you have.
There are no stupid questions, only...

I don't understand the topic of this thread, is the person who started it saying that the game runs too slowly on their pc? What does CPU utilisation matter while playing it? Of course the CPU will be used. If it's being maxed out and if, for some reason, you're not happy with that (I can't think of a scenario where this would be a problem) you could always choose to upgrade.

The game does not run slowly...just was shocked that it used all 100% of the CPU. Just wanted to make sure I was not the only person experiencing this.

He is saying that his CPU resources are all being consumed by the game. I however do not have this issue, for whatever reason.

I really think it deals with specs, as you notice the higher processors do not max out, but it could be from another theory.

Yeah its like smoking, I should come out with a new campaign!
"You don't want this happening to your computer do you?"
*Pic of a computer with smoke coming out of it, on a respirator*
"Then don't max out your CPU! Tech General's warning!"

Guild Wars frequently does not max out my CPU when I'm not in town. In fact I've seen it drop to 50% and watched my CPU temp drop as a result.
In town though it is usually maxed at 100%, probably because of all the player characters which seem to really hit the CPU hard.
