Err=7 (new thread)
Well, I used to get Err=7 and then Anet fixed the issue for a while. However, err=7's have been recurring at an enourtmous rate. Constant and completely annoying err=7's. I can't play this game with constant interrupts. What is it? Why can't you sort it out? Half of my guild have left to go on to other things, can you not fix this one thing to keep at least a few people here? I dunno. Maybe I should just move on too. Fun while it lasted Anet. Thanks.

Based on my own experience I think that in most cases Err7 is the result of a crappy connection and/or crappy hardware on the part of the end user.
If your Internet disconnects, you're gonna get an Err7 for sure. Which goes to show that it is not exclusively a game problem.
I think many people like to scapegoat their disconnections on Err7 instead of taking responsibility for their own crappy connection/hardware.
That said, this is not always the case and it would be nice of there could be different error message signifying different things. Ie:
Err7 = it's definitely your connection's fault.
Err8 = it may have been your connection's fault, it may have been the game's fault, but the Guild Wars program could not determine which.
Err9 = it is definitely the game's fault.
Of course I do not know how techically difficult it would be to implement this.
All I know is it definitely would help in weeding out the scapegoaters from those for who the game itself is legitimately the culprit.

I have a rock solid, uninterrupted, cable connection. This is definitely an Anet problem and always has been. They know it and it is widely recognised if you do a search of these forums.
It just happened again. I really cant be bothered Anet. OK game and all but I think I've had just about enough.
Thx Nyway

I've experienced more and more sudden "leavers" in groups during the past weeks. And I am sure that most of these are crash and Err 7 related, as there was no reason for the leaver to leave. It is very annoying.

Err=7 appears to be any kind of loss of connection. I also have a rock-solid broadband connection, and have had maybe 5 err=7's since April; I think server crashes caused every one (they were all preceded either by severe lag or by inability to map-travel/change district).

I would say this is on the increase, certainly in EU. A few times loads of people have been disconnected at once, and since they all lived in different countries I doubt it's the ISP's fault.
EU is also getting lag issues again, usually around the times it actually has favor so it could well be a capacity issue. (Do away with favor and you spread/reduce the network/server load too - lol ).
From the network status page on the GW website it seems as AN were having ISP related issues with their provider. I suspect the rise in Err 7's is somehow linked to that.

The Euro servers seem to kick the most people, I often lose teammates in pvp (even when we're winning) just to have the person whisper me almost immediately with an apology because the server kicked him.

This coincides with a sharp rise in the number of chinese bots/sweatshoppers, which may or may not be coincidence. I even experienced lag on the international server (Augury Rock intl is pretty much entirely populated by some 200 chinese bots/sweatshop farmers).
Personally I'm convinced the lag is indeed a capacity issue.
If ANet has switched ISP, I suspect that is where the err=7's are coming from.

I've had many err=7's, but most of them have been because Brighthouse in Orlando sucks. I lose connection to my 8Mbit cable at least 4x a day.
Last night was my first official game-related err=7 in over 700 hours of gameplay. I was going to Granite Citadel for the first time with my necro. Got to the door finally, walked in, instead of loading GC, it gave me an err=7. I was a little unhappy. I reloaded the game and saw that I was in Copperhammer again. Yeah, very unhappy, until I saw the icon for GC on my map.

I have never had an Err=7- I have a simple broadband.
A monk whose group I was in the other day blamed her frequent err=7s on the number of people on her server or whatever. No idea what she meant.

You know, your computer when connected to the game isn't directly connected through one line right into ArenaNet's servers. Any disconnections without proper rerouting beforehand within the path to those servers will cause an Error 7. Your connection and computer as well as ArenaNet's servers may be completely uninterruptable, but the chain is only as strong as its weakest link.

id have to agree that it is not merly arenanets fault.
i have error sevened about 2 times since release of the game.
i have lost connection more times due to hurricanes putting out my connection than i have by error 7.

I feel that Err=7 should not be blamed on A.net at all.
I had it once in my 300+ hours of gameplay, and it was becuase my useless ISP cut me off... I moved to a better one now.
Needless to say it was the ISP fault, Err=7 basically means connections lost to the A.net server, so if you having it often, speak to your Internet service provider and have a go at them.

I dont thnk anyone is blaming anyone, just trying to help pinpoint the nature of the fault. It cannot be a single ISP if multiple people in multiple countries get err 7's at exactly the same time for example.

Actually, it CAN be the fault of a single ISP even if the affected users are geographically dispersed. Allow me the use of an illustration...
Code:
ANet --> ISP1 --> ISP2 --> YourISP --> You
| |
v v
ISP3 ISP4 --> ISP5 --> JohnnysISP --> Johnny
|
v
ISP6 --> YourNeighboursISP --> YourNeighbour
Due to fixed routing, a situation such as this might easily occur. An Err=7 could be because of a failure anywhere in this (hypothetical) network. If it's at ANet, everyone will be affected. If it's at ISP1, you and Jonnny will be cut off. If it's ISP2, you alone will be shown the dreaded error dialogue. In neither case is the ISP you bought your line from that is directly at fault, but rather their partners.
Might be a bit redundant, but it'll explain why sometimes a lot of people get thrown out and it might actually be neither ANets fault nor the (direct) fault of your ISP...

Sure nationally it's possible but i doubt it is even in different countries 1000's of miles apart??? The more people affected the closer it has to be to the servers.
