Default Windows Vista Delayed Until 2007

Bummer...Looks like Vista will not be out until the first quarter of 2007.

Mainly due to Microsoft making sure the security is set. Well we can thank all the hackers over the years for that...

EDIT: I should add this really doesn't bother me all that much...it means I have more time now before I buy a new computer. I would rahter wait until later 2007 anyways so they can get out a Service Pack for any bugs...hehehe. But I am looking forward to a new Operating System. From what I understand is you will need a whole new animal of video cards to get High-Def out of Vista. Other more Geeky people can explain that better then I.

I saw that

Nov for Corp Volume License (who are usually NOT the 1st to adapt to a new product) Jan for public.

Do agree. To get HD out of Vista you have to have a video card that supports HDCP (high def copy protection) then hook it up to a moniter that also supports HDCP. Cards just NOW are coming with this feature.

Ati made a blunder and stated several cards (as selling points) had HDCP enable but the reality was they were missing a crypto chip that had to be on the card (no firmware hacks) aka it didn't work. Example: You have a video card with a TV turner card but no ports on it and it was sold has having a TV Turner.

So my Nice cool UltraSharp Dell monitor(2001FP 20.1") is NOT able to do the HDCP? THAT will really irritate me greatly. I can understand the Video Card...I was expecting to purchase a new one with my next system anyways...but ANOTHER monitor....*sigh*

Check the specs on the mointer. This HDCP is going to be used with digital cabel (or Blue-Ray / HD-DVD players) a lot and I have an HDTV w/o HDCP. A lot of tv's and moniter are going to have this issue.

How it works if you are playing HD content, both Blue-Ray, HD-DVD, future digital cable will check to so if you have HDCP working correctly.

If it detect's it doesn't the content owner can choose (when it's created)

A) Doesn't Play
B) Plays at lower quality
C) Plays normal

Oh DVI cables (big thick ones can't support HDCP), only HDMI cables (look similiar to USB can support it).

/waits for new MacBook Pro

More about HDCP:

I stopped caring about "high defintion" and all that newfangled stuff. I'm more than perfectly content with the computer (and video card and LCD - both of which will not be playing Blu-Ray/HD-DVD content).

I sticking with DVD until they may be a clear winner or the Anime (Adv, Bandai, Funmation, etc) companies choose a format.. (I don't see them splintering)

I'll be sticking with DVD simply because I doubt my 1 year old HDTV supports this HDCP crap. As for my computers, I don't watch Movies or TV on them anyway so that won't be an issue.

This HDCP stuff reminds me of the Trusted Computing thing with the Fritz Chip thing.

Oh well, no matter what they do there will always be someone somewhere that will find a way around it.

Just as there black box that descramble Macrovision, there are ones (or there will be) that do this with HDCP. Only good news is the "lower quality" will usually be higher then progressive scan but not 1080i (hd current max).

Content owner's on the verge of having the population revolt on them with all this DRM / Copy protection the way there adding this junk to everything. They already created a full pirate generation that expect everything to be free.

Once HDCP goes in to affect and if they stop the signal due to one device not HDCP complaint, there going to get a lot of hate mail.

My first PC was a 4mb RAM, 486 SX 25Mhz with a 1mb tseng labs SVGA card. I upgraded it to an epic 105 MB hard disk.

With that, I had Windows 3.11, Doom (plus 50Mb worth of mods), Word for Windows 2.0, Paintshop Pro, plus things like Turbo C++ for my uni courses, and still had room to spare.

Fast forward to the future, you get to install bloatware crap that takes up 100 GB, needs more and more... and more and more... and some more resources, and pay hundreds of $$$ to do.... EXACTLY THE SAME THINGS! (ok not including games/graphics cards, that's another topic altogether)

Yay for monopolies.... sigh.

Thing that concerns me greatly about this vista bullshit is temperatures its going to create...your graphics card is going to be constantly under load.

it will see what your system is reasonably capable of and downscale the graphics to match.

I'd put my money on Blu-Ray.

Macintosh SE running System 6. Black and white screen, two floppy drives, an external 100MB hard disk and an external 1x NEC SCSI CD-ROM drive. Microsoft Word 4.0 or something, I don't recall (it's still in storage but is mostly functional). Tetris for amusement. A few years ago, the machine was (re)discovered in the basement and it gained ethernet capabilities along with System 7.5.1.

Wow, that brought back a lot of memories...

Viva la resistance

The graphics card isn't going to be under full load probably not even 1/3 load so I wouldn't worry about temps too much. The new interface is designed with high end cards in mind or at least high end by today's standards, not by 2007s. So if you card at that time can't keep up there will be a way to change the interface anyway.

There cards and system know that will be running a bit hot that show the official "Windows Vista Ready Logo" on them, inculding some modern cards now.

Exactly how long do any of us spend looking at the windows GUI? when my PC is loaded up i'm either right into a game, Open Office or watching something off usenet...This windows Vista uber high rez sounds like bollocks, this really is the thin end of the consumer marketing wedge where we're not getting value for money anymore.

I want an OS that's 100% stable, efficient, secure and compatible, just 1% of those in trade for good looks is too much, imo...Vista sounds 1% efficient though...
