Missing Sounds
Before i start this (and yes i checked topics didnt see it - though im sure someone will flame with a pointy pen at one i missed) all drivers are uptodate so dont start on that issue.
Since playing factions this weekend has anyone else noticed sounds missing? I have slowly been losing sounds across the board and indeed many of my friends and guildies have also been losing bits here and there. At the moment ive lost all weapon effects, ping and target calling (but retain other battle sounds, background noises, music etc). Friends have lost weapons, battle sounds and various background. Checking the other forums this does seem to be an issue and not merely an out of date driver :P
Anet tech support has yet to respond since this isnt a business day.

I've experienced this issue as well since they day they 'improved the sound system' in guildwars.
There is a workaround for now which I've been telling others to do lately. It's worked for me so why not see if it works for others.
Go to your start menu then 'run'
Type 'dxdiag' then press enter
After it checks for signatures, click the 'sound tab'
NOTE: If you have more than 1 sound card - try sound 1
Look for the slider for 'hardware acceleration' and set it to BASIC or 'no' (emulated) acceleration.
Exit DXDIAG and then load guildwars and try it now. You should no longer experience missing sounds.

ANET has already said that they know about the problems with the sound engine. The missing sounds have been going on before the preview even started.
I'm pretty sure that they will release a fix soon.

A couple of quick questions: What kind of sound card do you have, and what settings is audio quality set to in the GW options panel?
Settings 4 and 5 turn on hardware acceleration, while settings 1-3 use software mixing (more reliable). If your settings are at 4 or 5, turn them down to 3 or less.

same problem here, i can her all music and background noises, but no sound effects will work, everything was fine before the factions update, now its just right royaly screwed, and i wont even consider lowering the acceleration of my sound device, as i would rather have no sound than compromise to some tiny crappy un-accelerated sound effects, this is a seriouse issue and i hope it resolved soon, once again anet have tried to fix something that wasnt broke ... and broke it
