Giant upgrade => SSSLLLOOOWWW??!!
No RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOing idea why my upgraded comp is running so slow... If anyone has any troubleshooting tips, please tell me, here are my new system specs:
GeForce 6800 GS [wapao!]
AMD Athlon 3200 2.2 GHz [overclocked to 2.5ghz, and slowing down for some reason...]
Scythe Bat Heatsink [big and icey]
1 gig DDR 400 RAM [only the best will do]
Windows XP Home [gah*]
110GB HD non-sata [though mobo is capable of 3.0G/s SATA connection]
grabbing new drivers from my manufacturer's websites for both my motherboard and my g-card and sound card and any other freakin' cards I got but for some freakin' reason, it's loading up VERYYY SLOOWWWLLLY

Yeah C&Q can sometime throttle up and down your processor, and should always be disabled when OCing. Also, what is your RAM set at with that OC?

iirc cool and quiet also sets variable ram speeds, i dont have it enabled, as when i have programs in a window, it thinks they arnt running and slows the processor down

Disable Cool and Quiet? [must uninstall]
ok, what else...
Oh yeah, the comp does NOT OVERHEAT yet I'm getting BSOD [winxp? wtf?]
RAM isn't even warm, HD does get quite hot but not recently due to my new fan-fetish...
According to system test specs as well as just touch, my comp gets warm, but not actually hot... [as in uncomfortable to touch...]
cpu never gets past 35 degrees c. so I'm very annoyed with this... any other ideas?

I don't quite understand the question, I've left them on default settings... [is this something I need to tweak in the BIOS?]

just for the fun of it have you checked the BSOD error messages?
have you reset the cpu to normal and tried it?

No you don't.
Right Click on Desktop
>Screensaver Tab>Power button(at the bottom of the pane)>
Switch from "Minimal Power Management" to "Always On".

It's been set to "Always on"
hmm...
I'm pretty sure C&Q can be either disabled, uninstalled, or tweaked in either WinXP or the bios, I'm at work now so I can't test it yet, but awesome suggestions thus far...
Btw, I don't care if your system pwns mine, but I do care if you know a way to fix my system...
That and I've got best budget comp in my zip code right about now and don't have THAT much $$$ to burn...

Is this an Athlon XP system or a 754? A 939 3200 is 2.0 Ghz, so that rules that out...
Leave him be on the overclock. I have a 3000+ 939 (1.8 GHz stock) at anywhere from 2.7-2.9 on average, on cool and quiet, on air. If you're looking for scapegoats, that ain't it.
What is your board? That will help me diagnose this further...

However, how can he have possibly oced anywhere if he left his ram at ddr400?..
Also, now you mentioned getting BSODS, then go dl memtest86 (google it), and scan, leave it on over night, see if your ram comes up with any errors.
Some RAM refuse to run on a divider for OC

Just did those suggestions. Cool and Quiet WAS slowing down my comp horrendously...
Also, I've picked up quite a bit of speed from this thing...
2.2 ghz -> 2.64... Gonna gun for 2.75 [where it bottomed out and froze the system after 10mins, but I need to test its heat]
My heatsink is near God-like... At least, from the reviews I've read on it... [Scythe "Bat", see it on Newegg]
Anyways, thanks for the memtest idea, should try it too...
And also, what should I set my GeForce 6800 GS pcie clock to? And another thing, how do I tweak ram settings? Didn't notice it in my bios [or maybe I don't know how, read through the manual thoroughly, maybe I missed something...?]

one last question too:
I'm running an NVidia nForce 4 chipset on this motherboard...
http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16813127222
I for the life of me can't find what I need to shutdown the damn NVidia Firewall...
It won't let me play my other games and it really limits my connection to other people...
What would I need to access the darn motherboard firewall? [My router is all I need really... ]

Ok for your one last question, I never installed nVidia firewall on my DFI LP , so I wouldn't really know. For your 6800gs PCI-E Clock to. Leave it alone, it should be at 100 mhz in BIOS. For your RAM settings, I'm guessing your board automatically clocked it to stable rates when you set the mhz to 2.63ghz. As long as it is stable, and runs fine for your it doesn't matter, unless it is running at 2T, and you want to check for stability for a couple of hours, to squeeze that extra 500 points in 3dmark 05 . Don't bother for the manual
