you can have 2 computers running on the same line, so you dont need another line...you cant even have 2 lines...
you can just install the copies. 1 on each computer with different cdkeys and it runs perfectly

cool, but how do i link the 2 pc's to the same modem(standalone modem).my modem box has 1 usb slot which i use to link to my pc and 1 ethernet slot which i use for my ps2,can i just link the ethernet cable to the new pc or do i need a 2nd modem box.i tried contacting my service provider and they told me i would need to have them instal another line or buy a wireless router from them for £100,not sure if they were just trying to scam some extra cash though.

Without knowing the make and specifications of your modem it's difficult to be precise. However, if the PS2 connects via the ethernet cable and if the new computer has a LAN card then I see no reason why you cannot simply unplug the cable from the PS2 and plug it into the new computer.
If you want all three on at once then you need a 4-port router (the router plugs into the broadband line, then the two computers and PS2 use ethernet cables into the router).
Whether the 4-port router is wireless or not doesn't really matter in connection terms. It matters if you want the two computers to be in seperate rooms and don't wish to run long ethernet cables.
You certainly don't need two lines - I have a three-computer wireless network here all with internet conectivity, all can run GW at the same time.

yup, just buy a router. Hook the cable signal from the modem to the router, then plug in your connections.
Your right they are trying to scam you ^^

Assuming you're on either DSL or cable with an RJ-45 ethernet connector, a hardware router/firewall will probably be your best bet. I'd recommend one of the more popular models like Netgear, Linksys, or D-Link with at least 4 ports and firewall w/ SPI.
I'm using Comcast cable now, and my two PC's share the connection through a D-Link DGL-4300.

Actually you can have two broadband lines in your home/apartment, but it really all depends on the ISP's in your area. I know that my motherboard is capable of having two different connections. So, theoretically, I could have cable and DSL running into my home - a primary and a backup line.

2mb is fine, I run 4mbs, but even sometimes, my ISP messes up and I drop to oh 10kb/s? or less
