Default A letter of thanks...

You know, this has to be the easiest forum to mod out there. You guys are normally incredibly helpful, don't regularly flame, and there are some very technically sound people out there. I wanted to let everyone know that I appreciate the fact that everyone treats this professionally, and doesn't just flame "OMFG n00b yu0r c0mput0rz sux0rz!!1!!!1" when people ask valid questions.

For the times when you're tempted to do that, remember-even for those of you with Alienwares, some of us homebrewers can do it better. For you IT people-some of us make the stuff you work on. For you homebrewers-some of us do this for a living. It's reciprocal. We all exist because of each other. Not just in the gaming world, but in this side too.

Most mods have to lay down a bunch of rules. We have some, but I very seldom see them abused. What's more, the core group of people here don't stand for it. Not only do you make my job easier, you make this an inviting place. If my computer needed a monk, I'd bring it here.

Thanks guys, let's keep it up. Somebody has to teach the n00bs.

Yeah, I'm thinking that's why I mainly stick to this forum as opposed to the others. I love a good debate, but in the Riverside Province it can be a bit touch and go to have such a debate.

I had to laugh at myself with the second paragraph. I own an Alienware, my notebook. I homebrewed my desktop system, my primary gaming machine. And lastly I'm a Network Administrator for a company in the Oil and Gas sector. I fell into all three groups, anyone else with me?

Rules are an interesting concept. Most people follow many basic rules just by using good judgement and instinct. But it's interesting, as soon as you declare it as a rule and go to enforce it many of those same people will almost go out of their way to break it. Simply because it somebody else imposing a restriction on their life. I mean, who can say they've never crossed the speed limit even if it's just a little.

Anyway, as one of the little guys I humbly accept the Thanks, and say Your Welcome.

I have to say, this is a good technical forum, and the best part is none of this "my pc is better than yours" crap.

Me, I fit in 2 of catagories, never bought a pre-built machine, I always build my own(and other peoples), worked in IT for nearly 20 years.

I like to help in any way I can, and i'm sure i'll learn off others too.

Like Teklord said, "thanks humbly accepted"

Agreed. I actually use these threads for reference outside of Guild Wars on occasion too.

Haha. This forum is full of people who know what they are doing, and because of that, other people who have questions can get the answers and help they need, and learn from it. I remember when I posted here before Guild Wars came out, and asked if my comp could run it. People told me it would run it, but I would need some upgrades, which was completely true. I ended up just building a new gaming rig... where was I?? Well, this is a great forum, and I like it here better than most of the other forums.

i started out with an old packard hell dx2 model.

their tech support taught me to be self sufficient.

89 minutes by the long distance toll line listening how help was but a moment away only to be cut off

home brew ever since

Ha, Dell support. Most support doesn't help. The best thing to do is build and troubleshoot your own computer...
and come to these forums!

Been building for about 10 years now. I used to build and sell to peeps at work, but that became too much of a headache. Their kids just don't understand the concept of spyware, and I hated spending half my weekends off cleaning somebody's brand new sytem just because children's natural instincts cause them to install every known file sharing and instant messaging program as soon as they get online the first time. Ugh. I think there's a reason tech support leaves you on hold for so long- they're scared to pick up the phone!

I don't have a killer rig, still holding on to Socket 754 and AGP for dear life, but I read a LOT and keep up with what's new. I can afford pretty much whatever I want, but I'm happier with getting by with only what I need.

I'm almost 5 years removed from being paid to do tech support, and this level, volunteering and sharing ideas, is much more fun and rewarding than sitting on a phone 8 hours a day could ever be.

Amen brother. Nothing "godly" by today's standards, but still nice, functional, and enough to get the job done.
