Default How do I get Widescreen Support?

I did a quick search and didn't see anything posted.

I'm wondering how to get Widescreen support for Guild Wars. I recently got a new monitor that I didn't have when I first installed the game and I didn't see any Widescreen Resolutions. I went to the support page and couldn't find anything that said how to make the game recognize Widescreen, only that it did it on installation, so I removed the game and reinstalled it - still not getting a Widescreen resolution option...

So how do I change this?

You could check out the advanced options when in game by going to menu then options, and see if there's a resolution that works better with your monitor.

Tried that and didn't see anything - though I think I found the problem.

The game labels all resolutions, at least on my computer, with "Full Screen - *Resolution*"

1280x768 is labeled Full screen

Well, whatever the case, problem solved.

Guild Wars pulls out the available resolutions more or less from Windows settings, what ever display modes you can set from Windows, you can set from Guild Wars as well.

1400x1050 isn't available on windows automatically, nor it was in GW, but after I added it with nVidia's tools, it was available to both Windows and GW.

And yes, 1280x768 fullscreen is fullscreen, it was full screen, doesn't matter if the screen is wide or round, it just does what it says.. takes up full screen

Make sure you have monitor drivers installed for your monitor.

If it's running of windows "Generic" driver's you may not have all the available modes your monitor can do. It will restrict what you have access to if you don’t have the correct driver installed. GW just pulls what it thinks windows can do.

Update/install video drivers (for your video card, NOT "monitor drivers") and you should have no problems.

1280x768 is a fullscreen resolution due to the aspect ratio. 1280x720 would be widescreen.

I thought it was 1280x960 for fullscreen on a standard 4:3 monitor and for some reason 1280x1024 on a LCD screen.

As someone else has tried to point out above the game doesn't make a distinction between what resolutions are letterbox format or not. All "Full Screen" means in the game is that your not playing in windowed mode.

1280 x 768 would be a wide screen format resolution.

1280 x 1024 is a 5:4 resolution, looks good on a computer screen but that's about it.

Although 1280 x 960 is the standard 4:3 ratio, most LCDs native resolutions are the 5:4, and thus will produce a the best image.

This game does appear to take its resolutions options directly from Windows, as when I tried to hook it up to my widescreen TV I had some pretty funky resolutions. Anyone who has hooked their computer up to a widescreen TV successfully will know what resolutions I refer to.

Default 26inch widescreen lcd

I just sctrech the window out to fit my screen size better. It elongates
the skills bar and stretches it out. Doesn't really distort that much, but at the same time doesn't stick to the 16:9 aspect ratio I want. I have a weak lil
bfg 5500 agpx8 256 card.
