Default Drivers Problem

System specs:

HP
Pentium 2.4 ghz
768 ram
300 gig HD
ATI 128 9800XT video card
Sound Blaster Live sound card

I bought this computer refurbished a couple years back and it didn't come with any of the driver disks. Now the problem I have after the new HD and the fresh install of windows xp is this: The driver for my keyboard doesn't work properly. I have an HP multimedia keyboard, it's grey with a dark grey section across the top with buttons. The buttons are labelled shopping, sports, finance, Connect, search, chat, email and then the standard cd/dvd/mp3 controls on the right. The problem is that none of these buttons work properly. I have installed the latest hp drivers that I could find. I checked the control panel and clicked on the keyboard icon. There used to be a tab across the top that said "buttons" where I could program the buttons to do whatever I wanted. Now there isn't. Does anyone know what a guy could do to remedy this situation? I re-installed my mouse driver and all the buttons work on it and the mouse icon in the control panel brings up the proper information. So why can't I get the silly keyboard to work?

Maybe youd get a better response if you told us the model of keyboard. Should say on a label on the bottom

You might wanna try searching around on the HP web site for a driver for the model of keyboard you want. This one may work, but like Fractal Star said, you'd have to know some more information about the model of keyboard. Multimedia one touch keyboards require a different driver other than the standard MS standard generic drivers included with the OS.

Never buy a computer that doesn't come with all the driver disks, unless you intend to search for and download each driver, then burn onto CD's or floppies.

The reason those configuration options are not displayed as before is due to the fact that you are using different/incorrect drivers. Until you find the correct drivers (which wouldn't be hard to find once you post the model of the keyboard), I'm afraid you'll be limited from using the media keys. The configuration options you were referring to are not a default feature of XP, and were most likely embedded by a third-party driver, and until such are installed, you will not see them.

There should be a Number on the keyboard, most likely starts with Cxxxxxx.

HP has two ID methods, the model number and there own unique Cxxxxx number that only that product has. If you plug it in to there web site, it should pull it right up. I can usually find hp drivers with one or the other.
